In an attempt to get you guys to listen to more metalcore because its the best fucking fusion of any genres I have heard in my entire life, I'm gonna tell you guys about some of the best bands in the genre.
Converge
In my opinion, these guys are probably one of the most prolific metalcore bands to exist. The combine the raw and unrelenting intensity of hardcore punk and the extreme sound of metal. Basically they do everything thats right about hardcore and metal. Their sound can go from being destructively chaotic to dark and haunting, while still retaining an amount of energy and intensity that takes the music to a whole new level. The lyrics, while a bit short, usually deal with a wide array of subjects from love to, well, anything. Jacob Banon (vocals/lyrics) also does some of the
coolest fucking cover art I've ever seen.
Why should I listen to Converge?Because they pretty much set the bar for metalcore and have put out consistently great albums. If you aren't listening to these guys you are missing out.
Where should I start?-Jane Doe
-You Fail Me
-No Heroes
-Petitioning the Empty Sky
-anything else by these guys, seriously, they're fucking amazing.
Botch
Although regard as the pioneers of mathcore, they are still viewed by many as one of the giants of metalcore. Their sound was usually very dissonant and tangled with Dave Knudson's odd polyrhytmic style and amplified by Dave Verellen's abrasive vocals. Although they has broken up, their music is still regarded as a behemoth in the metalcore world and has had quite the impact on today's metalcore scene.
Why should I listen to Botch?Their energy coupled with the dissonant and chaotic sound of their music is more than enough of a reason to listen to them.
Where should I start?-We Are The Romans
-An Anthology of Dead Ends
(old)Cave In
I say (old) because they ended up becoming an alternative/space rock band, however, their earlier releases were very much metalcore. Their sound can be described as hardcore mixed in with elements of thrash metal with some experimental ideas thrown in the mix.
Why should I listen to (old)Cave In?Because it was a great mix of hardcore and thrash along with some great melodic bits thrown in.
Where should I start?-Until Your Heart Stops
Most of their early material isn't as easy to acquire to say the least.
Shai Hulud
While their sound is more hardcore and less metal, they still mix the two in a great way. They're usually known for their misanthropic lyrics and their blend of metalcore that can be linked a little more to hardcore. Their line up changes around alot but they still deliver the same aggressive sound they are known for.
Why should I listen to Shai Hulud? If you're more into hardcore punk and wondered what it would be like if they added some metal to it, but not to much, this band is what you're looking for.
Where should I start?-That Within Blood Ill-Tempered
-Misanthropy Pure
Prayer For Cleansing
One of the earlier bands that took to the more melodeath metal sound mixed with some elements hardcore. I say some because they are more metal than hardcore, but still regarded as metalcore band.
Why should I listen to Prayer For Cleansing? If your more into melodeath, this band is for you. Although the band was short lived, they created some great music and should definitely be given a chance.
Where should I start?-The Rain In Endless Fall
-The Tragedy EP
Metalcore is by far one of my favorite genres because of its intensity and raw sound. Honestly though, check out the 90's metalcore scene because the current scene has been filled with generic copies of shit bands that have created a really shitty trend, mainly because alot of metalcore bands nowadays are just really shitty metal with breakdowns, which is not what metalcore is about *chestfives bro*
Other bands to check out7 angels 7 plagues
Integrity
Beecher
(old)Hopes Fall
(early)Between the Buried and Me
Coalesce
(early) Darkest Hour
EDIT: When I come back from work I'm gonna fuck each and everyone of you SO HARD.
