I tend to not believe shit I read on the internet unless I have a reason to (I know the person well enough or some kind of proof.) People lie and come up with ridiculous, exaggerated or completely fictional stories all the time and seriously, I am pretty skeptical to begin with. Basically internet is full of people who have this need to lie so that they could stand out or be noticed. I suppose it's much easier that way than to actually have some personality and just be yourself. Some people probably have other reasons too but anyway, I usually tend to ignore stories I don't believe are true because they can be pretty sad so I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by saying I don't believe it because there's always the possibility that it is true, and it would be pretty mean and inconsiderate thing to do in any case.

yeah I've actually said multiple times I don't care about mkkmypet overexaggerating shit, just that it's stupid and probably happens. you actually pretty selectively ignored the multiple posts I made about this! well the pm for pics thing makes it pretty obvious that i'm not wrong so i'm not going to feel too guilty about it chief. i don't even think i made all that big a deal out of it either, tbh. most of the argument was spent talking about shit in more general terms. i don't know if you expected people to just be like WOW THAT SUX and move on but if that happened then gw wouldn't be gw, it would just be some random, shitty, faceless forum, soooo.

"Attention whoring" is just a horrible and overly-exaggerated term imo.

The way I see it, mkkmypet shouldn't be getting slammed for this so much simply because of how tight-knit a community GW is. Posting this on 4Chan or some BIG FORUM where no one knows anyone would be the equivalent of walking around with a bulleted list as Steel said, but I think this is a little different.

However, if this internet medium of expression worked in such a way that people couldn't reply to your post (aka some sort of ANNOUNCEMENT system) you could argue that her telling her story was an emotional catharsis of some sort that she was extending after going to a psychologist and telling family, friends, etc. In that case, since no one can reply and say "omg SO SORRY :teardrop:" there is no yearning for attention, just for catharsis.

However, when you don't hesitate for a second to post your life story of sexual abuse on this internet forum where people you don't know are quoting it and sayin "thats horrible!!!! i hope ur ok" i think it's hard to deny that there is at least a very small part of you that is secretly hoping at least one person will read it and give you e-sympathy.

I mean, if this was JUST supposed to be some sort of emotional purging then why couldn't you just write a short story or a poem using other people's names KNOWING VERY WELL that you are writing about your own experiences. Or make a note on DeviantArt or LJ and LOCK COMMENTS. Hey, i mean your story is getting out to internet people who aren't complete complete strangers ("sweet.... the guy who thought my drawing of Kefka was brilliant is reading my story :p ) but there is absolutely no intimation of a need for attention because it's LOCKED and/or you're not paying attention to the comments!

There's something I don't get about Mkkmypet's Story, if she really was cutting herself for like years, at least one of your parents should've noticed it! unless your not the usual wrist cutting person then yeah :S

Yeah I know people like Aten. They expect all their friends to be happy-go-lucky wimp bitches who go through with no problems or obstacles and learn nothing along the way. They don't like to be burdened, I guass. It's kind of disgusting but it's understandable and they're not good friends In fact, they're not really friends at all, actually. I don't know how you can call yourself a friend if you'd just run away from someone who needs help.
