So, I've come up with this interesting new Web Chat protocool, called the Relay Automated Protocool for Text OpeRations (Or RAPTOR, for short).

The system works similar to IRC, and some IRC commands are compatible (/join, /msg, /topic, etc.) but mainly, the biggest feature of RAPTOR is the ability to program with it.

So, it's like a programming IDE on wires. It sends script, it recieves script, and it also supports plugins for new types of script. The main scripting language is Basic4GL, which is the native language of the program. To get information about B4GL, go to www.Basic4GL.net and check it out.

Anyways, the server is up right now, so it's a rare chance to try out the system before its official release on Agust 5th, which is the set date for the Team3Soft DSL server to go online.

The RAPTOR Client (An early Beta of the client) is available as one file at www.Team3Soft.com/RAPTOR.exe (in fact, you can RUN instead of DOWNLOAD if that is better for you, if you can't download files at the moment)

If you get the VelociRAPTOR Alpha, at www.team3soft.com/VelociRAPTOR.zip you can script using the command syntax: /script <language> <code here>

The only plugins I have in the works are Ruby and Turbo C. Ruby is my top priority plugin. I can't code in Ruby, but I've begun working on it for a friend, and he's been paying me back by beta testing the new VelociRAPTOR client.

Well, good luck with this.

Feedback is GREATLY welcomed.

Also note that you must have a Pentium III 1GHZ or Faster, 128MB of RAM, 32MB of 3D acceleration, and at least Windows 98 (2GHz P4, 256MB RAM, 32MB 3D and WinXP recommended).

The server is online.

Server: 4.226.222.206
Port: 6667
Main Channel: #RAPTOR

a few questions:

1. isn't this a huge security risk? unless you severly restrict scripting access i would assume this could be potentially dangerous.

2. why would you need to script for your IM? can you give me an example of something that raptor could do with it's scripting (that is useful)? maybe i am stupid, but i can't think of any reason why you would want to do this.

you do realize this is the same guy who got MS-DOS on his Gameboy Advance, bragged about getting RPG Maker on it too or some shit, and crap like that right. I forgot his name. Uhhhh...El Dorado or something maybe? I think that was it. (i am 99.9999999999% sure this is the same guy, he uses the same hell schtick for his location, same age, uses the same team name, etc.)

I wouldn't use anything from him, because it most likely is a security risk and/or potentially dangerous.

1. Yeah, it's a security risk, but only to other clients. The server only relays messages, therefore the server cannot be crashed with scripting. Also, clients can kick others from channels (if they are operators) and therefore it's about as safe as IRC.

2. Well, if you can program it outside of the chat program, you can program it inside. It's like IRC Scripting, but in an actual, useable programming language.

Examples? Well, you could make a file sharing code, an MMO game of some sort, anything really. Since there's already a web connection, it's an open portal to online minigames (or full length games, if you can program that well).

In fact, just a while ago, I changed the backdrop image on my friend's client by initializing a code from my client.

Also, Server has been moved to 4.226.222.53 for now.

Also, who are you to ridicule me? Have you tried this program? Have you seen what it does?

What was that? Oh, you said no, huh? Then shut up.

i don't want to try it because it is potentially harmful and not really from a "trusted source". you say it is a security risk to other clients which is enough for me to not want to, but what guarantee is there that I won't run this and get the dougr bech virus and my pc will explode? i think you should definitely expand on the security risks to this and how you hope to minimize them because like hell i'm going to run something you just said is a security risk in some way.

what is fully possible etc to be used against me would be good to know and how you hope to prevent this

K. At least you weren't completely hostile in that post.

Now that you mention it, I need to beef up security a bit. I maybe remove the ability to input/output to files outside of the folder that the client is being run in, therefore eliminating the chance that something important could be deleted/overwritten.

Also, thanks for pointing this issue out >_> I'm definately going to work on that.

Dude you say feedback is GREATLY welcomed in your first post then WAHWAH IM QUITTIN INTERNET because people point out how stupid and dangerous this is. All you're making here is a less secure version of IRC, who the hell wants that? How can you honestly expect people to be on board when YOU yourself say SERVER IS SAFE ITS JUST THE CLIENTS THAT NEED TO WORRY (i am paraphrasing there).

I havent checked your IP yet, I don't know if you are actually El Dorado but if you are, you really REALLY haven't changed.

Nope. I can't run it because it's for Windows. If you'd show us the source code (which is kind of a prerequisite, I would imagine, if you're trying to get a new chat protocol to be established), maybe I'd be able to get it to work.

Ah. Screw this. I'm quitting the internet for a while.

My old nemesis...

Haha.

Anyways, the server is down, since... Err... Two days ago or something.

I've decided to take a break from the internet for a while, because I'm tired of trolls and constant flaming wherever I go.

But meh.

This'll prolly be my last post for a while. I might kick around IRC a bit, but I'm definately steering clear of foruming.

Bye for now.

people wouldn't be trolling or flaming you if you built secure well thought out things.

edit: though no one trolled or flamed you here...just pointed out the truth. ^^;

This is bad. I am the most unknowledgeable guy when it comes to coding, and yet I saw this flaw a mile away?

You really need to improve before you release stuff like this.

If it's that big of a problem for you, maybe you should look in the mirror? idk.
