Long story short, I'm stuck at my Aunt's house for a week to dog sit for her while she's out of town.  Everything was going fine until I tried connecting to the internet.  Now her DSL modem is saying that a network cable is unplugged, but the damn thing is in there pretty firmly.  The DSL, Wireless, and Internet lights all stay on, but none of the Ethernet ports light up.

Here's the PC and modem info:

OS: Windows XP SP2
Modem:  Westell 327W
Model: D90-32W15-06  Rev: F

I've tried calling Verizon's Tech Support, but they just keep giving me the run around, and trying to pass the buck on who's fault it is.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like there's a problem on one or the other end of the ethernet cable that connects the DSL modem to the computer/router, or with the cable itself. Try another cable, try plugging the modem into a different device, and try plugging the currently not-working device into something else, like a router with DHCP.

I can rule out the cable itself.  I tried another cable and got the same results.  None of the four ports on the modem could detect it.  Unfortunately I don't have any other devices or routers that I can use.

Is the network card properly installed? Maybe try updating the drivers for it? I'm surprised verizon doesn't give you any more information, they're really the ones to talk to if the modem isn't giving you a connection. Does the modem have a USB connection you could try?

I'm just going to have my aunt get a new router.  I've already checked everything mentioned in this topic and nothing worked.  So I did a little research on the brand and found that Westell's are pretty much shit for quality.  Thanks anyways.

You kinda have to test it on another PC especially if all 4 ports on the modem yield the same result. If it works fine on another PC it's your network card on your PC, which is not Verizon's problem. If it does the same thing on another PC, then call them back, tell them what you've done, and if the modem is still under warranty/rented they should replace it.
