as far as everyone's concerns over gunned out oblivion goes i think the important thing to remember here is that Fallout has always done poorly in the market despite being "critically acclaimed."  bethesda is still by and large a company that makes games that are accessible to the mainstream market (which is they morrowind wasn't ridiculous in size compared to daggerfall and why the battle system was streamlined or "consolized" in oblivion).  if fallout 3 is going to sell then they need to "stupify it" for the average consumer and that means selling the games action features of blowing shit up with portable nukes.  i would love to live in a ideological world where games are designed specifically for the 10,000 fans like myself that masturbate to paragraphs worth of backstory but it's still a business and unlike comics and literature it's not a business for small producers since the production values are ridiculous.

I will point out that no one who criticizes fallout 3 has ever mentioned the game's actual appearance which is fantastic from what i've seen.  yeah yeah blah blah graphics don't make a game but if there's one good thing to say about the game so far is that it actually looks like a fucking wasteland.  the original fallout reminded me of jagged alliance except with less trees, box houses, and the entire color palette was made out of brown.

but shit, why hasn't anyone made a massive roguelike using the SPECIAL system or in an apocalyptic setting?  a spiritual sequel or something.  it'd be kickass if some pioneer in indie gaming made a DWARF FORTRESS for fallout but instead you command humans building a town or you play as a wanderer going from area to area making a name for himself.  if i knew object based programming like C i'd be working my butt off on a fallout-esque roguelike.

anyways, where are you guys getting your e3 information?  is there some sort of centralized location i should be checking out on a daily basis because so far nothing posted in this topic has even looked remotely interesting except for mirrors edge and some game that looked like a sequel to psi ops.

edit: i just watched that embarrassing nintendo music video and i feel sorry for everyone expecting major news from ninty this e3.

that video also, for whatever reason, made me hate reggie phil-aimes-douche-however-you-spell-his-name.  i can't explain it but when he popped up in that ugly suit talking about expansion while words flashed up on screen in the background my body just filled with anger.

Haha Marcus I thought the exact same thing with the JA/Fallout comparison. I was playing both at around the same time and sometimes they seriously looked the same with different interfaces. It does look like a wasteland this time which is why I'm hoping the atmosphere will be awesome.

You're also right with the mainstream stuff. Fallout has a big name but it doesn't have the sales to back it up because it's just not that heavily played and doesn't draw in a lot of the big buck spending sport/GTA/Halo/MGS markets. I hope this one really brings it to the public eye more because nearly everyone I know has heard of it but few have actually played it. Although that's not going to change because hey lets ban it in Australia we're fuckign retarded fffff

That PSP game looks solid for a PSP game. I can't say I've played a huge amount of them but I think it's a pretty good handheld for what it is. Sadly the biggest handheld news is usually redesigns :(. Speaking of which, did they announce a PSP one?

I've been watching G4's E3 coverage on and off yesterday and today. They talk with the people who make the game one on one and have someone thats attending E3 playing the demo on the screen while they talk with the producer about the game and, "Oh, see what that guy did there?". And then they cut to live feed of Microsoft guy talking and showing game trailers/demos, etc. Lsat years G4 e3 coverage was horrible. They actually had commercial breaks during the live press conferences of never before seen game trailers. Like Microsoft guy was up on stage, "Here it is, the Halo 3 trailer." *And now we go to a commercial break*. They cut out a bunch of information from last years e3. But this year they're only doing breaks after the guy goes off stage and they have time before the next guy.

Yeah I caught wind of Resistance for the PSP, too.  I'm somewhat excited because I pretty much don't have anything to play on my PSP these days that isn't kind of old, so this is good!  It looks pretty good but ever since Crisis Core and God of War I've come to expect PS2-level graphics out of big-budget PSP games, because that's clearly what it's capable of.  I sort of view Resistance in a more positive light than other alien FPS games, because I dunno, ALIENS INVADE DURING WW2 seems kind of cool, and having to fight all these spaceships and whatever else with 1940s technology also seemed cooler than your standard sci-fi shit.  Plus, Ash told me it was a pretty good game, so if I owned a PS3, I'd buy it.  I guess this is a decent chance to see if the series is worth anything.  I hear it's being made by the same people who made the PSP Siphon Filters, which were honestly pretty solid little action games.

Nintendo’s E3 press conference had some highlights. Overall, however, Nintendo presented a very limited number of “hardcore” games. There was no new Zelda title, barely any mention of Mario, and even the upcoming Wario Land was absent. Reggie Fils-Aime on the other hand, strongly believes that Nintendo has enough games at this year’s E3 to support the core gamer. In a brief interview on G4 following Nintendo’s media briefing, Fils-Aime explained, “How could you feel left out? The Animal Crossing that we’ve been hearing about that people wanted. Fully connected to the Internet, go to other people’s towns. Plus as I said, Grand Theft Auto on the DS. How do you feel left out with those types of announcements?”

Fils-Aime also commented about Kid Icarus for Wii, but essentially dodged the subject: “You know, we never said he was coming. We’ve all seen the rumors and all of what we see as the desires that consumers want. Make no mistake, Mr. Iwata said quite clearly: Mario teams, Zelda teams are working, they’re bringing product out for Wii this generation. We’re going to continue to bring all our best franchises to both of our key platforms and continue driving that experience both core as well as brand new consumers.”

i was actually wondering if they had that dialog exchange online. the moment they asked him about leaving out the CORE GAMERS he kind of hesitated then spat out that bullshit about HEH WE GOT ANIMAL CROSSING. it was very apparent he was lying through his teeth.

nah dude he's snake

most of this stuff doesn't interest me that much. the only thing i have to buy games for (and even that is a stretch) is the wii, and everything new for that sounds really boring and stupid. animal crossing might be ok, but i don't think it would remain interesting for a long enough time to justify spending money on it.

If you haven't yet already, you guys might want to check out the details about Guitar Hero: World Tour.  It's not just a Rock Band clone (like Rock Band 2 is), they actually added a lot of new stuff instead of just giving you new songs.  This article has most of what's interesting.  Just scroll down to [8:17] and you can see what I'm talking about.

Also yes, OBOY GTA DS what a novel idea.  If it plays like GTA 2 then I'd be interseted but I somehow doubt that'll be the case.  And can someone please kill Animal Crossing already?  Please....

So Fallout 3 will apparently have a 30 minute introduction today.  Hopefully it won't be that 2 year old demo that goes through character creation and some battles.  There's already a 5 minute video walkthrough on gametrailers but, once again it's all about BATTLAN SMASHAN BLOWIN-SHIT-UP which is doing absolutely nothing to calm down the sweaty man-children looking for restitution.  The optimist in me secretly thinks that Bethesda has this ace-up-their-sleeve kickass character interaction system that no game has ever used before and they are purposefully keeping it hidden so it will surprise the fuck out of anyone who plays it.

And I also hope they don't display the game with the bloody mess perk turned on.  We already know the game is going to be violent but how about showing us default gameplay without the fucking perk jeezuz.
