HOLD UP GUYS YOUR GAMES ARE KILLIN' BLACK KIDS.
Has the video game industry dug up its very own blood diamond?
According to a report by activist site Toward Freedom, for the past decade the search for a rare metal necessary in the manufacturing of Sony's Playstation 2 game console has fueled a brutal conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Full story. So apparently there's this metallic ore that, once refined, turns into a powder that is extensively used in electronic devices. Basically since the PS2 is the best selling console to date they are trying to pin the bloody takeovers and child labor going on in the Congo on Sony.
While this sounds like a pretty serious problem, I can't help but wonder why it has taken this long for anyone to realize this and say something about it. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to NOT wait until Sony has already sold 140 million consoles in the last ten years to bring this shit to the table?
Either way, let meaningful discussion ensue.
