I want to buy one of them to play through, and I want to choose just one(for now) so leave it at that. Well, which one do you guys reccommend. I mean I hear that Oblivion has better graphics and gameplay, but Morrowind has more to do and more varied landscape, and other things. So, which one did you like better? Hopefully, after asking a few opinions, I'll have a good idea of which I want to play through now.

Oblivion has better graphics and gameplay.

All there is to it, both have their merits. Both have really great mods. I'd prolly by Morrowind but I like old school stuff. There are a lot of content mods for Oblivion and if you have a really good PC it is awesome.

So are there any really good Oblivion online mods or something? I bought most of the expansions I think, unless more came after Shivering Isles.

I liked oblivion alot more than morrowind, it wasn't as massive that made morrowing pretty confusing.

morrowind is dry, wordy, boring and ugly as hell. the combat is terrible, all of the gameplay stinks. that game is a stinker. oblivion is as bad as morrowind only the voice acting keeps conversations shorter, the world is better looking and the fighting is more tolerable. the only thing these games really have going for them is the exploration. i like to explore in games and find hidden places etc. oblivion is best for that because it's nicer to look at. some people don't like how samey the world is in oblivion but i don't mind.

you can change the games completely with mods so anything anyone says here doesn't really matter if you're prepared to spend a block of hours overhauling the games.

First, get them on PC. You can mod the PC ones and you HAVE to mod the games. INCOMING GIANT LIST OF DIFFERENCES.

Now which one is better really depends on what sort of game you are looking for. Oblivion is more 'polished' then Morrowind, but has a lot more spoonfed gameplay. You cannot kill ANY quest npc in oblivion whereas you can in morrowind. Whilst this means you can PERMENANTLY ruin the main quest and break the game in morrowind (which is good...teaches you for killing the king), it also means in oblivion you will get into fights against invincible enemies which just pass out and wake up then attack you again. Oblivion lets you buy houses, which are not that bad, whilst in morrowindyou have to murder someone and steal their house in order to have one. Morrowind's guards won't pursue you much past city borders from crimes whereas oblivion's guards will chase you 8 leagues into the ocean to arrest you for stealing an apple. The voice acting in oblivion is TERRIBLE, as is just about every single conversation in the game. Oblivion DOES have captain jean luc picard, and sean bean, but both of them are boring fucktards. Combat in morrowind is not very good, and 9/10 ever swing will miss, whereas if you hit in oblivon you hit and do damage no matter your skill level, however enemies level up with you and match your level in Oblivion so the more you level the WEAKER you become. For this reason morrowind gives you a sense of progress and oblivion is easier the lower level you are (and at high levels BASIC BANDITS have better magical equipment than the final boss....). Morrowind is gritty and kinda ugly, but with a decent graphical mod looks very tasty, and oblivion is VERY tasty but only has about 4 different texture packs, so if you have done 4 dungeons you've done all 196. Also ther's about 250 oblivion gates however only 7 oblivion maps, and 1 is unique, so there is only 6 maps which means you will end up doing each map a good 10 times throughout the game. There's a lot of FUCKING ANNOYING xbox-based gameplay in oblivion for the consolefucktards but a lot of mods can disable them all.

Nobody mods for morrowind anymore and the new mods are all for oblivion, but there's another mods out there for morrowind too. Mods are generally better for oblivion too, but very few change the incredibly boring gameworld. Also due to the nature of morrowind, it doesn't matter how much content you add you will still feel really isolated - and for the most part - lost and bored.

Which one is better? Baldur's Gate. Get that instead

Then download the high resolution textures and realistic combat mods.  Can't help you with the dry and wordy part because that's your opinion.  I for one enjoyed reading the 1,200+ pages of original prose they put in the game.

I enjoyed both games but I liked Morrowind the most because of the environment.  Oblivion is your standard generic high fantasy swords and sorcery shit you see in every fantasy movie and Dungeons and Dragons setting while Morrowind took African and Japanese cultures and mixed them together creating a world I've never seen before in any RPG... well, ever.  Oblivion has less books and is much more streamlined meaning it's a lot more fun for the casual players but Morrowind contains more options and areas to explore which is a major turn on for control freaks like me.

Plus ash storms are the coolest.

Not to mention that Oblivions supposed new A.I. thing is a pile of feces, seriously all they do is roam around and stare at walls for hours on end.  Marrowind they stare out in space instead, so honestly when it comes to imersion factor both makes you feel pretty isolated. Oblivion also takes away any reason to level up, and any reason to actually raise skills cause no matter what you can attack and land a hit.

Mod it, if you do it's all about taste at that point.
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

I lost interest in Morrowind after a while but it was a really cool game. However, Oblivion held my interest all the way but I didn't go exploring every nook and cranny (repeated dungeons etc.)

But! The thing is. The Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion was better than the whole Oblivion game. So idk it was pretty funny.

I've played them both and I prefer Oblivion. With the Shivering Isles expansion there is plenty to do and see. I also find the storyline to be a little more interesting in Oblivion. Not to mention it's just beautiful and sometimes I need to stop and JUST LOOK.

Oblivion does not take away any reason to level up and raise skills. I assume you're talking about the enemy scaling (there is a good mod to turn this off and rebalance the game in a more 'classic rpg' sense), but this really doesn't take away from raising skills because you GAIN NEW ABILITIES when you raise them (such as being able to see more alchemical effects, attacking while jumping, jumping off water, running faster, sneaking in any armour, stunning while blocking, etc)

EDIT: And yeah, the Shivering Isles is awesome and has a better story than the Mehrune's Dagon/Oblivion one.

Well, It really depends on your own opinion I guess, unless you want to rely on ours here at GW. I myself didn't really like either of the games, mainly because they got really quite boring rather quickly unless you had mods, and I didn't have access to internet at the time. If I had to choose, I would choose Oblivion because it was more fun to play for the amount of time I played it for. But it really depends what floats your boat.

[edit] Ignore that last part, I'm a bit intoxicated at the moment. Both of the games are good games, but they do get a little boring after a while due to repetitiveness.

Both are interesting and have good gameplay.  Its worth playing both of them (if you have the time), and either one that you choose will be rewarding, granted that you like the style of gameplay.   Personally, I enjoyed Oblivion more just because I think the gameplay itself was a little bit better and more refined than morrowind, and some of the game systems seemed better fleshed out and fluid.  Shivering Isles was a good expansion as well, although I don't think that it was more fun than the main game (I thought the plot was actually pretty terrible in it).  I haven't bothered with the morrowind expansions though, so I don't know about them

Oblivion is really watered down and pretty short/limited. Morrowind on the other hand has a pretty huge world to explore and has much better looking characters(well, design wise). I really hated the look of the beast races in oblivion, not to mention the stupid happy faces everywhere.

Also, bloodmoon is fucking awesome.

The third expansion is better then the second one for Marrowind, the second one is more streamlined. I personally like becoming a Werewolf though.

The weapons skills I mean't the weapon skills, no point in them you'll almost always hit the enemy regardless in Oblivion.

The storyline in Morrowind INSTANTLY becomes instantly more interesting if you read a few of the books in the game and learn of the questionable circumstances surrounding the Tribune and Dagoth Ur and whatnot.  It's got a TON of depth to it, which is far more than I can say about Oblivion's story.

On top of that, Morrowind has LEGITIMATELY BETTER ART DIRECTION.  Everything in Oblivion looks exactly the same, and while Morrowind has LOTS OF BROWN, they have tons of different architectural styling, the armors are designed better and are more interesting-looking, and there are INTERESTING ENEMIES to fight, which is a lot more than I can say about Oblivion's onslaught of ANIMALS/PEOPLE/ZOMBIES.  Morrowind also has the benefit (for me, and a few other people I know) of having a lot more different stats, which means that you are able to customize your character a lot more in Morrowind than you could in Oblivion.  They give you different stats for things like longswords and shortswords, because the two of them are wielded incredibly differently.  A lot of people complained that there were too many different stats/skills in Morrowind but I always liked it.

Now I know this post sounds like it's trying to KILL Oblivion so far, so I'll start listing some of the things it does right.

Oblivion has better combat than Morrowind.  Hands down, Oblivion's combat kicks the shit out of Morrowind's, and for ONE REASON.  Hits that connect in Oblivion ACTUALLY CONNECT.  In Morrowind it was nearly impossible to effectively play any ranged class because you would not be able to attack quickly and A LOT OF ATTACKS WOULD MISS.  Mages were nearly impossible to play in combat in Morrowind, which has been fixed... to some extent... in Oblivion.  Oblivion also has better NPC AI.  Now I know some people complain to say that it isn't all it's cracked up to be, but it IS certainly better than Morrowind's.  Guards will chase me through doors, I can walk around and listen in to an AI-driven conversation between two NPCs, and I can wonder where the fuck I was when the man came around to hand out telepathic powers because FUCK EVERY NPC EVER KNOWS WHEN i HAVE STOLEN SOMETHING.  Oblivion also has a currently active mod community, unlike Morrowind, which has a pretty near-dead one at this moment, and the games have REALLY been all about their mod content since Morrowind came out; which isn't to say that Morrowind ISN'T GOOD UNLESS YOU GET MODS, it's just saying that the mod community is so prolific and so creative that the experience is enhanced so much by the community that you can hardly mention the game without talking about them.

Anyway, yeah, I guess that's my side of things.  I, personally, like Morrowind more, but Oblivion is also a good game, and it has the benefit of having a mod community that has matured from Morrowind's old mod community, so they've been churning out some GREAT stuff.  Hope this helps your decision : |

well allot of people have a problem with Oblivion's Leveling system, and they're right it basically sucks.

but get Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and all will be fixed and allot of other things as well, I'm currently play Oblivion I'm 160 hours into the game.

anyways the problem with Elder scrolls games is that they try to create a lively world but in the end you'll just feel alone because AI is so retarded that the fact that "it is a game" gets slapped in your face the whole time.
But in the end Oblivion will seem more like a life experience than Morrowind, but Morrowind is more interresting if you can really let your fantasy run wild, or if your a schizophrenic
so you've come here for pointless ego boosting and happy sunshine glee? this aint deviantart man.

Here's a tip:

don't buy either.

Download is the way to go. They're not, imo, worth your money, but definitely worth some download time.

I do like reading the books I find in Oblivion, and I know I read a bunch when playing Morrowind but I was 14 or 15 at the time and so I probably didn't grasp a lot of what was going on. I'd have to go back and replay it to give a less biased view! Also I never played Tribunal or Bloodmoon and I'm sure that expanded on the story somewhat!

Yeah the Tribunal one is mostly there for adding more depth to the story and expanding it a LITTLE BIT more, the Bloodmoon expansion is pretty much just a whole bunch of extra sidequesty stuff.  It's cool, but it doesn't really pertain to the main storyline very much.
