This is quite...average. Seriously, after playing the original and the other two expansions (although winter assault only added Imperial Guard), I'm annoyed that it hasn't been done very well. One one hand, it's SO much better balanced than Dark Crusade, where necrons just beat the shit out of everyone. One the other hand, the campaign takes so long to load, and there's not all that much new content (they added two shit races and flying units, wow). On another hand, it was made by Iron Lore, so I kind of understand why it's not a substantial improvement over Dark Crusade.

Has anyone else played this?

Upon arriving the attending doctor could find no abnormal physical symptoms other than extremely dilated pupils. After spending several hours terrified that his body had been possessed by a demon, that his next door neighbor was a witch, and that his furniture was threatening him, Dr. Hofmann feared he had become completely insane.

I only tried the demo and laughed at the Dark Eldar's megaweapon thing with the throne and the bikini girls.

I absolutely loved DoW and the first two expansions. The original game is kind of odd to play after playing Dark Crusade a lot though...what with almost unlimited vehicles and so forth.

- daily dinosaur is awesome!

Ah yes, I love DoW. It's even more fun with the Mods, especially Slaanesh and Nurgle skin mods.

But yeah this wasn't really that great, I pretty much don't care much for it and will wait for DoW2 from Relic. The whole ship thing was just kinda well slapstick to me no point in adding them. I still want Tyrannids.

A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

I love DoW and have all expansions (bought even!) and yeah, the Soulstorm races are kind of shit and I hate the flying vehicles (is there a way to turn these off?)

i agree the balance is better tho. necrons were ridiculously overpowered in the (unpatched) dark crusade.

I only ever play as Orcs tho, so I guess I should just go back to Dark Crusade (but then i'd have to install it agian and uninstall Soulstorm). Flash Gitz rocks

edit : actually i like Sisters of Battle they're an interesting race

but DARK ELDAR is just bullshit

isnt there like a zerg fraction that rather should be included??

edit2: also CHAOS is only interesting after reading the Warhammer 40k lore.

Orks are great fun to play because they're a massive swarming race.

Also yeah the new armies were kinda weak but I only ever played skirmish so it's nice to mix it up a bit with battlenuns.

The zerg like faction is called Tyrannids, and apparently Relic (and these guys) didn't include them because the engine doesn't do them justice. They are pretty mucfh a swarming race just like the Orks. But they'll be in DoW 2.

Chaos is interesting if you get the right mods, I mean in truth all factions need mods to make them interesting theres tons more weapons and vehicles for all factions except the Necrons. For them what you see is what you get.

The reason Chaos isn't so interesting is because it's Khorne with some Tzeentch tabbed on in a slapstick fashion. I love the Bloodthirster that thing just owns in close combat, The Unclean One looks totally disgusting though (player made, ofcourse).

Orks are the most devestating race in tier 4 if you leave them alone, it is very very stupid idea to leave an Ork player alone. Not even the Necrons could beat them if you left them alone.

A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

I find in the early game if the Eldar get lots of guardians (as they often do) it makes an awesome rush squad, especially if you play tau (like me) and only have about 3 fire warrior squads against about 8 guardian squads. Orks (at least, with the AI) are fairly difficult now (back in DC I could quite easily destroy them), their stormboyz can easily destroy my fire warriors by jetpacking in and engaging them in melee.

But one thing I noticed is that the AI is incredibly stupid when it comes to invisible units. Getting shot at by an unseen force? Retreat, then come back, of course! I know that would be hard to program into the AI, but seriously, after 3 expansions, surely they'd have enough time.

One thing I was surprised about was in a 2v2 with IG agains necrons and sisters of battle, IG beat necrons while I was attacking sisters of battle.

Chaos is NOT a Satanic Army (okay Khorne maybe is the closest thing... but still) Chaos is Chaos which only consumes itself. There are four gods Khorne of hatred Nurgle of despair, Tzeentch of hope and change, and Slaanesh of pleasure. It sounds cliche at first but once you actually get into the lore you'll see they arn't just a cliche evil version of humans. For instance the Gods themselves were born from the extreme emotions of sentient beings's psche (except Orks). Daemons and the Gods own image are formed by the living things that worship them, to them they look like that then that is their form.

The most cliche thing there i'd say are the Necrons and Tyrannids.

necrons were born on a planet that orbited a deadly radioactive star, had severely short lifecycles so built deatharmer© to exact revenge on the universe that was such a bitch to them

orks are the coolest tho.

in ork society, only size matters. so a goblin that spends his entire life killing humans and fighting off invading forces and conquering planets for the orks will never get more respect than a slightly bigger ork that spends his entire life drinking and fighting other orks and fucking things up, and cowardly fleeing any real fight against opposing forces.

the only thing that can earn you respect is your size. i think thats pretty awesome.

Nobz is betta than smaller, runtier orkz!
