I can't stand stand it.... Its the reason why I only have like 6 anime's that I've ever liked, but now when I browse through them all that comes up are anime's about some emo 14 year old guy who has a relationship problem. It's sickening, and It compiles over 70% of all anime.

Anyway..... Anyone else hate this?

Someone put a bit more into this topic by around this time tomorrow and it won;t get locked.
Give a thought out reason as to why you hate them, why you think 70% of all anime are them, etc and I'll keep this open. Basically make an arguement for some people here to argue against/for instead of an ignorant blanket statement.

can someone actually name a good school-based anime???? i am just curious and also if you mention azumanga diaoh your tastes are immediately disqualified sorry

Bleach is, kind of a school anime. And thats...popular anyway, it has nice action even if its terribly 2 dimensional most of the time.

haruhi was pretty good for the first episode and then it got really bad and i can't believe it's so popular because imo it's dumb as hell and not funny! i might've watched it had it continued being like the first episode was. bleach is uh... yeah. death note was kinda cool in premise because it reminded me of persona but it's not so hot. code geass is terrible. for some reason i have seen ALL OF FMP and i thought the original series was pretty not good but i'll admit the followups are ABOVE AVERAGE, but not by much! you guys aren't very good at this game.

but yeah kaworu you know like 95% of anime is borderline unwatchable if you are an adult, and i could probably come up with a pretty compelling argument as to why that is. why are you getting on him for making a totally accurate blanket statement?

i remember liking the first episode of haruhi suzumiya cos i thought it was just a funny absurd show about nothing in particular other than some girl's desire to make interesting things happen. then i found out the episodes were just out of order and really it wasn't such an interesting show.

besides what you guys said, haruhi tries to have a point and it makes it really pretentious and unbearable imo. at least I know kaworu isn't watching it for the MOE tho. except for the magic guy I guess (thats kyons gay side)

oh I tried to watch uh what was that shit?? Oouran Host Club or something, like with haruhi people insisted it was really good. there was this Honey and ughghgh just look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ouran_High_School_Host_Club_characters made me wnat to punch stuff

Because it's a really shit basis for a topic, "I hate [genre] who agrees with me?", it'd be locked everywhere else (but... comics&anime needs the topics/posts

also utena kind of but if by school you mean CRAZY LAND then yes school

but the problem here isn't where they're set, just that they happen to be shit shows...there's a lot more shit anime taking place in other places, they aren't bad BECAUSE they're in high schools, just because they're bad

I dunno I mean by being school-based they also generally aim for HIGHSCHOOLCRUSH and shit as major plot parts, plus the oh so embarassing sports classes where the special shorter skirts flap up and down as they run revealing panties before the creepy teacher.
