puppetmaster Nothing Compares 2 U turned out way better than Achy Breaky but mostly because Achy Breaky sucked to begin with.

ALERT! ALERT! REVIEW! REVIEW!

Chef: Man  you have the AMAZING ABILITY to make these radio shows a lot more FUN than just PLAY MUSIC/LISTEN. Ten thumbsu p.

Sabotage: This is nuts man. PTizzle I have already told you that I am VERY IMPRESS with this. I wasn't sure if you could pull off the larynx abuse but you really went all out with it. There is also a very subtle point in the late end of the song where it sounds like you are singing and I just want to say this is my favourite part of this song. Would very much like to work with you again in the future.

All Star: This is psychadelically insane. It starts off really jazzy and just builds into this crazy spaced out acid jazz bonanza! I really enjoyed this tune and although it feels a little lounge I think you did a great job with it. You have this echo thing going on as the song progresses that is pretty sweet.

Achy Breaky Heart: Wow, I didn't really know what to expect from this. I really hate the original song so I had very low expectations but you really pulled through man. You have this haunting voice and these contemporary drums kick in over this dark johnny cash-esque verse to produce something pretty amazing. The chorus seems to have a more psychadelic down-tempo rock vibe to it and I think this is probably overall one of my TOP THUMBS UP SONGS from the album, despite being probably the only song I wasn't looking forward to at all.

Mr Jones and Me: Honestly I didn't enjoy this so much. I am not a big fan of Counting Crows and maybe this is why, it is just not a well fitting taste to my musical palette as panda would put it. Whoever is singing (I assume Harry Manback) your voice really reminds me of that girl-dude from Placebo and the guitar is pretty solid. I mean it is not a BAD song I just didn't enjoy it very much. It just seemed to brush over me a bit.

Creep (atari): Dude did you sing this with a collapsed lung? If so I have to give you +20 more points, this is really fucking cool. It is amazingly well produced and you have a pretty cracking voice. I was waiting for the HIGH NOTES to really see what you did and you handled them pretty smoothly. There was no BREAKING HICCUPS and when the song really kicked in with the distortion guitar you did it pretty confidently. Well done! Good Job!

Good Riddance: Man DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT. I could hear a lead playing the vocal line VERY FAINTLY in the background and it felt like a very strange synth midi take on something entirely different. I mean definitely points for thinking outside the box but I didn't really enjoy it very much I'm afraid. It just seemed like a complete misplace of style and I know I'm not really one to talk but WELP THERE YOU GO.

Buddy Holly: This is great. The piano is really haunting and the song feels like it has these disjointing hiccups that kind of add to the atmosphere. (Are they actual mistakes I don't know?) but this is a very nice sounding ambient take on something that is particularly upbeat. I would categorise this into my filing system of HAPPY/SAD songs. I think you manage to grasp the base fundementals of each mood and this is mastership music making. Chups.

Iris: This song brings back fond memories of watching meg ryan ride a bike into a truck. Do you remember that film where nick cage is an angel and meg ryan dies? that's what this song is about, meg ryan dying. I didn't really get it, if he is an angel and she dies doesn't that mean they get to be together? why is it so frackin sad!!! Anyway you took this song with GUSTO but I felt you were holding back on the vocals a little bit. The vocals were good but I felt you were kind of holding back on the POWER for fear of maybe being too loud and your neighbours might hear? Musically this is very strategically well put together and it is top quality production. The guitar is very well defined and I know you had reservations about drum programming but I think this is something you can be very proud of!

Nothing Compares 2U: Compared to Achy Breaky Heart the vocals seem really muffled on this song. I don't know if you messed around with your setup but I just wanted to mention that the production quality is kind of a step down. I think on IRC I said something similar to this: "It feels like a very cool lo-fi garage band version of the original. I think if the original never existed this would be a very good song!" I mean it is definitely different (are you beatboxing?) I also think it was a valiant effort to hit the high notes. You kept the song in key pretty well throughout it's entirety, I was very worried you would try and hit TOO HIGH and it would kill it a little bit. Very good though!

Shine: Yeah I didn't enjoy this one so much. The drums feel very weak and the vocals seem spaced/muffled. They aren't too tight and either there is some kind of strange reverb on a bad recording or what I don't know but the song is TIGHT, it just felt like the recording quality let it down a bit. What I can give you TOP MARKS for though is a killer guitar solo. I was headbanging,,, i assure you.

Creep (cpouch): Wow, this is terrible... What the fuck, who put this on the album?

Overall: Well done everyone who submit a song, massive respect just for going out there and taking the time and effort to put something out and keeping the troubadours alive after all this time. You guys are the best and where I gave up a long time ago we wouldn't have awesome TROUB NIGHTS like this without you. Big FUCK YOU to Lars who didn't submit a song for the first time ever? Yeah, frack off buddy you're not welcome on troubs albums anymore. Also couch I am joking, creep was really good. Top notch guys, high five, chups, you guys are the best.

Yeah I wasn't very happy with the vocals on shine because there is a concave area behind my computer that pretty much echoed it all back or something and it sounded really muffled/too loud at parts. Also, thanks for the crits on Mr. Jones I'll take that as a complement even though placebo is terrible imo.

if I start recording again though I'm gonna get another mic I think, or try to do it in an open space

Yeah, I recorded this on on a 4 track tape recorder and Achy Breaky on a 16 track digital recorder, and I spent like twice the amount of time on the production of Achy Breaky than I did on Nothing Compares 2 U so I could see how it seeems kind of muffled and what not. Oh and yeah I am beatboxing, I don't know why. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I have to go get the password to this and then I will listen!

hey i missed the premiere but yeah i'll download this when i get home and listen to the whole thing

by the way i know this really isn't all that helpful but ummm i never had a chance to listen to the final version that harry sent me after he did the vocals for shine (because i was on a terrible desktop that didn't have speakers but now I have my laptop back) so i told him just to send it to ASE and now that i'm back on my laptop i got my headphones on and ummm honestly what the fucking hell dude its like the vocals aren't even in the same key

Quote
The drums feel very weak
in the original version of the song, its actually a demo recording with a really simple drum track (doesn't even have hi-hats) and I tried to recapture this sort of sound in mine so that is why the drums are like that (even though I actually added more to my song than what are the computerized drum tracks that were in the original version of shine)

OK REVIEW TIME (even if I get disqualified because I'm on this)

Sabotage: Well this is definately a unique spin on this song. I like that there are no instruments on this as it adds an evil computer generated touch. Your vocals (PTizzle I believe?) are kind of over the top, but definately in a good way.

All Star: I heard this when you first posted this and I loved it then and still love it. The fact that it's all trumpet and flugelhorn (and generated drums, whatever) really add a unique spin to this. I love that there's like 15 tracks or something so it just explodes basically and you kind of forget that it's All Star eventually.

Achy Breaky Hear: Jesus Christ, Mellotron Cowboy (whoever the fuck that is) managed to make a shittier version of a shitty song. It's good to see that he didn't even attempt to make it sound remotely similar to the original. The saxophone solo is just pathetic, I mean really. The vocals are just scream of Couchfiend rip-off. The drums are way too high in the mix. Overall, even MILEY Cyrus would think this is shit.

Mr. Jones and Me: Ok, unless you guys can prove that one of you is a white guy with dreads you automatically get docked 5 points. Thus far this is the song that follows the original closer than any of the other songs on this album. The vocals are kinda... well... not quite spot on. Overall it's pretty good, just not all that exciting (not like the original was anyway_

Creep: Ok, unless you can prove that you don't have a creepy droopy eye and are as ugly as sin, then you automatically get 5 points. I really like how it seems about half organic and half computerized. Of course you recreated the JUCKA...JUCKA electric guitar part right before the chorus perfectly, which I love. You probably have the best singing voice thus far, so good job.

Government Sponsered Teen Outreach Program: Best opening EVER. I can allready tell this is going to be amazing. Oh my god, this is amazing. Like really. This is my favorite thing on this thus far. I don't know why, but its fanfuckingtastic.

Good Riddance: Being as this is one of my least favorite songs, I was pleasantly suprised to not hear a two chord acoustic guitar opening. I couldn't tell that it was supposed to even be the same song until about halfway in. Overall it's ok, but not a stand out track.

Buddy Holly: Goddammit, Couch! Damn you to hell! You have to just rape everyone else's music on this album. Hell, you had to shit all over the original too.  Couch making a track for this album is like having John Lennon enter a songwriting contest with Avril Lavigne and the like being the other contestants. It's just not fair, not fair at all.
(By the way, it's really good. Kudos to you, Couch.)

Iris: Oh thank God my track didn't have to follow that up... er... Iris. This actually is very similar to the original. The vocals are good and the guitar playing is as well. However, I never really found this that interesting of a song to begin with. So, sorry ASE. I do really like the crazy drums during the chorus though.

Nothing Compares 2 U: Nothing compares to how bad this is.

Shine: Nice guitar. Hahahaha vocals. Uhm... they are.... um. Anyway... Does anyone on Gaming World own a drumkit? Like everyone either used a drum machine or beatboxed*shivers*. This isn't you guys' fault though, I'm just saying I'm getting kind of sick of fake drums.

Creep: While I'm glad this isn't the same as the last version of this song GODDAMMIT COUCH! GODDAMN YOU! (I'm really a fan, I swear.)

Anyway being as this is the first troubadours album I've listened to I can't really give it a grade or anything. It was enjoyable for the most part. I wish PTizzle whould have gotten "My Name Is" done, though, because I've never heard anyone rap over my music before.

...Premium? Please?
