YOUR GAMING WORLDS NEEDS YOU

It turns out I have been a cruel and malicious dictator, and fired too many people! This means that there are new vacancies for staff on the website, and we're looking to hire on new people. We're currently accepting applications from pretty much anybody who wants to be staff for the site. You don't need to long-time member of GW, or a premium member, and we really don't care that you're only 13 years old. The only requirements we're looking for are the ability to write decent articles and the drive to help make Gaming World a better place full of hugs and cuddles....

Your role as a staffer couldn't be simpler, all that's required is you write a minimum of one article every week or two about something that would be of interest to the Gaming World community. Whether that be something about homebrew gaming, upcoming tournaments, or a crazy new movie that's coming out that you think we'd be interesting in. There's a HUGE gap for people who want to write about the game making scene at Gaming World (hint: looking at you guys, G&DA/IGD), but we have plenty of people that specialise in music so if music's your area of expertise than bugger off back to last.fm, chump.

If writing for one of the most prestigious websites ever made isn't enough motivation to apply, then maybe this list of perks will convince you:

EXCLUSIVE STAFF PERKS

-  Able to write articles and get them instantly published on the front page of Gaming World
-  All articles are guaranteed to get more than 8 unique hits*
-  Access to the staff-only exclusive club lounge, including snooker tables and tea and coffee making facilities
-  The ability to shape the future of both GW6 and Gaming World as a whole
-  There's an extremely large chance that the staff now will be staff when GW6 is ready, so if you want to be GW6 staff this is your chance
-  Competitive, negotiable salary. Starts at 0 bucks/hour, with an estimated rise of 4000% a year.
-  Company car
-  BABES (I did not want to do this one however HL forced me to do it and said he would beat me if I didn't)

Murex Brandaris with his GamingW 6 babes - just a normal day in staff

If you are interested in writing for GW, then send either myself or HL an application telling us a little about yourself, why you want to be staff and what you want to write about. The application doesn't need to be long, only a few short paragraphs (don't send us a whole CV/resume!). If possible link to any previous written work, or topics/posts you have made that demonstrate your ability to write. We're accepting applications either by PM, as replies in this thread or email, but a PM on the forums is the most preferable option. And just as a friendly reminder, we don't need any more people talking about music!

Disclaimer: I am writing this at 2am. Apologies if nothing makes sense.

*May or may not be true, 8 is a very large number!

Yeah, I'm in the process of honing my article skillz at the moment.  My latest one wasn't so great, but the next one or two will hopefully make me IMMINENTLY ELIGIBLE.

So this is blog and not GW6? I'll express interest when GW6 comes.

Why hiring though? The blog doesn't look like it's in bad shape or anything.

It's both since the staff who work on the blog will be working on GW6 and there is already GW6-esque stuff to do (articles, resource management if people are interested, talking about GW6).

also yes the blog isn't in a bad bad shape but there is a lot of people who are focused in one or two areas and not a lot of variety, plus some people aren't very very active and I'd like to have a few more, especially since we've been down 3 staffers for some time now.

We have a lot of people dedicated to talking about indie games and music and misc, but not very many people outside that. I'd like to get people are interested in writing stuff about comic books, film style stuff, humor, etc.

I used to want to do this but fuck, writing about things is too much hassle I mean it's not like I can't do as many as most of the current staff (one article every three months... too taxing), but no motivation to write about games these days...

You don't have to write about games at all! As I said above (edited while you posted ;) ) comic books, film, humor, science, etc are all applicable subjects as long as they are interesting and written with the audience in mind.

We'll I'm sure others should be recruited specifically for GW6. I'm sure there are some people out there who just don't have the motivation to write for "lol blog" and would rather wait for the real deal and manage content rather than writing articles.

*cough*

<----

Seriously though, bring on game posting (as in on an actual GW, not writing posts about games) and I will be all over that in seconds.

Well, we don't really want people who aren't going to treat the blog as serious anyways (obviously)! It's definitely useful for gauging staff writing abilities, and preparing for GW6 and getting a work ethic (so to speak) down. The staff needs a structure, and the blog is very useful to build that structure, instead of everyone fumbling around on Day 1 clueless of GW6. It isn't a "lol blog" anymore (esp. with the updates leafo plans on doing sometime :) ), and very few people should be treating it that way now imo. Maybe it isn't some grand official site, but it's still representing who Gaming World is and you should probably be behind it since you are a mod ;). (at least instead of calling it a lol blog  :fogetsad: )!

Dunno yet, still have to converse with him about what he is planning on doing and stuff that would be useful but not too time consuming to do. I am mos def going to make sure article submission gets put in tho...

Well just FYI.. I would like to contribute, but I am not an article writer and it's why I quit before (I was being hounded to come up with something when my mind was blank).

Really, I'd be interested in my old line of work, which was adding games and dealing with the submissions. It was ROUGH WORK because  you have to play a lot of really terrible games but in the end it was worth it and it was pretty fun.

But game adding/submissions is not even a factor yet so I'll just wander around like a lost child.

Yeh, it's about the only thing not covered by the blog and I don't think it's anything being focused on since the game db is done by GZ and stuff now.

Would it be integrated into the site or what?

And also just so you know this as well.. When GW4 or 5 or whatever it was I staffed on was up and running, the amount of games that people submitted was astounding. Literally. I did not know where they were even coming from!

Tons of them were never featured on the forums or, well, anywhere on GW at all. If GZ's thing is going to be the game database or whatever for GW6, make sure it has some exposure and that nameless nobodies can submit games.

Staff don't really have any duties aside from the ones you already have (being a good member, reporting posts, etc) on the forums, that is mod/gmod/forum admin jobs. Staff is focused on the site only, tho you do have a responsibility to be active in the staff forum and discuss gw6 as much as possible in there while being active and actually doing articles etc.
