I downloaded the v1.13 mod and I've just captured my first mine in Drassen but I'm being attacked by 30 enemies I'm wondering if this is normal I mean 30  :fogetgasp: and I only have 6 poeple in my squad is this a bug or was it intended to be this hard? I'm on experienced difficulty btw, also what traits should I pick and what should my stats be for making a sharpshooter when you use the IMP?

You need to train a militia to defend towns once you've captured them because the Queen will start sending armies at you and your towns and if you haven't trained any militia, she'll just recapture places while you're out on another offensive.

I know that, but I've just started the game it's been like approx. a week in game time I know that they will try to take it back but in JA2 the normal game there were only 6-7 people that attacked not 30.

You should be able to turn it down and turn off the Queen's attacks in the settings (outside of the game) if it's too hard. As far as I remember in 1.13 there's some sort of crazy Drassen attack turned on automatically although I remember it being bigger so maybe you turned it off already?

As far as traits go if you want a sharpshooter you should definitely take rooftop sniping as it's incredibly useful later on. The others don't matter as much because if you have a high MRK and a good gun then you should easily be able to hit targets without any trouble. I'd take night ops or stealth (it's been a while so I can't remember exactly) because with a silenced weapon you can take out a bunch of enemies without being spotted.

Stats should just really be high MRK/AGL. High WIS is always desirable as it makes improving everything easier and it's quite difficult to raise on its own.

Thirty enemies definitely isn't impossible. Make sure you're ready - have mercs lying prone in good spots and save a lot. If you hire Lynx/Scope and put them in good positions then you'll have a fairly easy time and it should be some easy experience. They'll all be yellow/red shirts at that point. If you take rooftop sniping and have Bobby Ray's turned up to a high setting then you can lie on the roof of the security building (a good spot). Set explosives if you're pretty good with them as you can at least knock a bunch of enemies to the ground and get an extra turn. At Drassen also remember to cut holes in the fence in tactical spots so you can run and hide if you get overrun. The gate is also a pretty good spot from memory as you can duck out from behind the booths, take a shot and go back. Just make sure you keep an eye on the enemies as much as possible. Use the militias as meat shields because you can always retrain them and I don't think it'll be detrimental in the long run if you win.

You'll probably have to end up staying there to help them for the first attack so you have time to better train militia! Train them in both sectors so the ones from the other one come in and help (I think that happens in 1.13).

1.13 is a little difficult to adjust to at first so it might be worth playing a little bit on the easier difficulty to get to grips before loading that game and continuing on.

Wow thanks PTizzle that worked I ended up killing half of them and then they ran away -.- oh and Dogchode69 your damn right about Ivan wow he's one power house full of pwnage...I like Scope and Lynx too. Yeah I read that in v1.13 there are constant attacks of groups of 60 people which I have encountered but then I reloaded and it got reduced to 30 for some odd reason.

So far I really hate ordering stuff from Bobby Rays because Pablo is such a jackass, losing my shipments and what not... I also wanna know what is a good side arm for snipers and the whole squad alike? Oh and does accuracy make much of a difference at all?

It's hard with sidearms - it depends on what weight you want and so on. Accuracy does make a difference but I can't remember by how much, but yeah I think it's noticeable. Range/damage are usually what I look at! It's been ages and I really can't remember what I used to use (plus there's so many guns in 1.13) - when I get home from work I'll load my latest game up and see what people are equipped with. Just choose what looks good to you though, really. Weight is important as you want to get fast shots off with a sidearm, so a really light pistol with fair damage and range will do you well. Ridiculous stuff like the sawn-off shotgun and that one shot hand cannon of a pistol are cool but aren't very useful.

With Pablo just slip him $500 and he'll stop losing your stuff. Don't kill him though, the guy that replaces him is 5 times worse and you can't pay him off.

pretty much marksmanship is the key stat in the game. it is not unreasonable late in the game to be using two or even one guy to kill nearly every enemy in an area.

also going to recommend shadow or magic. shadow because he has permanent camoflague and magic because he just kicks ass. the permanent camo in particular is very useful because you can lay in tall grass and just pick people off. shadow is almost too good because of this. they are both very expensive but once you get enough mines (money in other words) this will be no problem.

the game seems to encourage having large squads, and multiple squads, but realistically time is not really an issue and i would just hire really good guys and use them for practically everything. then have a second and third squad of a few cheap and worthless people just to do certain simple tasks (healing, repair, transport stuff, small missions). militias should be taking care of all town battles and your worthless squads should be in towns for training and things like this. since guns are also not easy to obtain, it's too hard splitting the good equipment across multiple squads.

Shadow is great, I use him and Lynx for most of the game. As GZ said the natural camo is just awesome in most situations, plus he has stealth or night ops doesn't he?

Ira is a good militia trainer, I find. She takes a little while to get going but she has a fair wisdom and is a teaching expert and she's not much of a fighter so I usually hold on to her for quite a while.

Guns are pretty easy to get in 1.13 though, mainly because of Bobby Ray's becoming infinitely more useful and stocked.

I must have installed something new because my old saves aren't working so I can't check my sidearms :(. The Bearpit are a group of incredibly knowledgeable people though, if you ever need any in-depth help on certain things! I'd just recommend lightweight hand guns.

I always just un-equiped a weapon and took a swing at him when he lost stuff or was skimming from the top.

^That works as well, although sometimes it seemed to start combat mode for me and that led to everything getting bad.

But yeah, you're right, that's probably the better way to do it.

Yeah I read in a JA2 guide that if you punch Pablo you will get your stuff back so I tried that and then the militia killed him..... -.- so I won't be doing that again.... I have to say I think this game is really great, even as great as X-Com in my opinion. Too bad the FN FNP is not in the v1.13... well as far as I know I haven't been able to find it yet. I really wish there was a topic devoted to JA2.

EDIT: So I looked found out that the FN Five Seven pistol is really good for snipers and the squad alike not only does it only use 4 AP for a shot but it's light as well as good damage and range, 27 Damage and 13 Range. It also goes great with the FN P90, which I will give to my stealth night ops troops.

EDIT2: Damn I'm getting pwned defending the Drassen Mine again, I have 6 people in my squad all with 77 Markshipmanship and above, they are equipped with kevlar armor and steel helmets, also HK MP5A4 which has 26 damage and 18 range I've put them all on the roofs but I'm against 60 enemies here... :fogetcry: I haven't got enough money to hire anyone else with good markshipmanship damn I'm doomed!
