It's called Chrome and Google will be releasing it tomorrow on September 3, 2008 today. It's out. Check out: http://www.google.com/chrome

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7593106.stm

And from Google's official blog: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/fresh-take-on-browser.html

Google comic explaining the creation of the browser: http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/#

So, what do you all think? I'll probably download it tomorrow out of curiosity, but it'll take a lot from google to get me to switch to them from firefox. Is this just another google ploy to slowly take over the world or is there actually a need for a 'better' browser?

Heh. This was inevitable.

I'll try it out, but I doubt that anything will pry me away from Firefox.

The name chrome sounds so emo (modern), and I reckon that if I use it long enough I'll probably feel and become more emo (modern), than I already am.

It will propably be as ugly and useless as 90% of Google's "apps". Search is good, Google Earth is cool and GMail is nice but the rest of the "innovative" shit they produce are pretty much crap.

It's open source so couldn't someone add ad blocking or something to it? I'm sure someone could add ad blocking and compile their own version or something, no?

I'll check it out tomorrow for sure.

This.

I'm actually looking forward to this.
<Drule> I can play the didgeridoo actually
<Drule> some guy on the street taught me
<Drule> come to think of it
<Drule> it was pretty gross how I played on his didgeridoo

so wrong...

I bet it took more time and effort to make the comic than the browser itself.

That said, at least it's open source. I will definitely download this.

This, but I don't have my hopes up at all. Opera has years of tweaking and optimizing on it's side. There are also subtle Opera features which are a must for me, including 'duplicate tab' and the ability to undo closing a tab with a simple ctrl+z.

Knowing google it'll contain a billion toolbars you don't want to use.

And comics should be used more in presentations.  I should write an article in the future explaining the importance of education (like history and science) through comics.

I'm pretty sure that's a feature in all browsers with tabs. Firefox it's ctrl+shift+t.

but yeah this is kinda cool but i don't know if it runs fast and isn't ugly i'll try it.
