This game doesn't even near approach what gmod is capable of. It feels like a dumbed down, cutesy version of it. Besides some body motions, all you can apparently do is jump and hold onto objects.

Ahahaha

how do you even keep track of what you're doing when everything's these green vines

aspergers.

also I get the calculator is impressive but look at what it required. forget diff eq or whatever stuff you might even hypothesize about, aside from being BORING AS SHIT you'd probably need more abacuses (abaci? no, its probably abacuses) than the game could potentially hold.

and I understand the game can hold a lot but look at all that for two digit addition and subtraction.

also also I've been avoiding saying this because the OP says NO SAYING ITS BAD but goat broke that rule so I will too; this isn't anything SUPERINNOVATIVE and is about as gimmicky as the wiimote or whatever flavor of the month people latch onto. to make a really great level will take a bunch of time and if anything this is a downgrade as far as user creations go because doesn't XNA take C# creations? I just don't see this being the gaming or designing revolution HL was telling me it was in another topic. not unless TONY HAWK PRO SKATER LEVEL MAKER was the same thing. it's just a gimmick to sell the game. a good gimmick and more interesting than most, but I'm not too impressed!

I am impressed mainly because I have the only 3 games worth owning for PS3 and I could do with another :)

it's innovative in that its the first console game to be entirely built by users, for users, playing with other users (you can build levels online with other people), using content you create, with textures you make, and can sell, playing through levels together, etc. It's not on the scale of gmod, but it isn't trying to be. it's less complex so that the average user can make something, and has creater user functions. this type of UGC is going to push the industry forward in the future and it hasn't been done on this level of scale yet.

i mean that giant collosus thing on page 1 was made by faculty at a school and they were adults who probably don't play videogames much at all and it looks really really good. giving that type of control to the common user really hasn't been done before in an official game built around such a community, and it's innovative in that sense. the difference between a console level editor (I find the gmod comparison not fair, since this is a console game) and this, is that a level editor is either a dumbed down version of the tools the devs used to be more simple and have restrictions and can only use materials used in the existing game (see: said tony hawk level maker), or a (only seen on PC) exact replica of what the devs use that is entirely complex for the average user that locks most of them out of UGC anyways. (see: HAMMER on the PC)

this is the first "content editor" (since it's more than a level maker) on consoles that is an exact replica of what the devs use, but it's simple too. the end result is a game that is 100% UGC, and that hasn't been done before. even gmod largely uses materials from other source games usually, granted you can use other materials, thats true, but LBP makes importing other stuff SUPER EASY for the average dumb person which means seeing 100% custom levels will be pretty simple and easy to do for the average user and that is what makes it the unique snowflake in a pile of shit in my eyes.

i mean, someone made a CALCULATOR. yes its entirely USELESS (it's three digit, not two.), but it's still a rather innovative use of it, and if people can make a damn calculator in this I can't wait to see what other UGC they make!

you're assuming though that the average gamer can make above average levels, and this is usually not the case.

how many dick levels are we gonna go through...all for your precious UGC...

NEW FROM NINTENDO, CROSS OVER CONTENT WITH SPORE! HAVE TWO DICKS AT ONCE, A DICK LEVEL AND A DICK MONSTER!

no but seriously an idea like "long tailing" the videogame level making market doesn't work when not everyone has a ps3 to begin with. the assumption that you create a "market" for good levels kind of falls apart when access is limited anyways to people who have a ps3 and the game. I just don't think enough people will have it for the game to have any lasting influence. we'll see more dick levels than great ones.

that's pessimistic but if we take a look at another piece of software that is easy to make things in and yet has resulted in few good let alone professional creations, it kind of makes sense.

the software in question being...rm2k...

to be honest this kind of looks like a mix of RpgMaker and phun in 3D without menus (not good). if I want to generate content I think I'd rather continue trucking on gettin' good at programming

if there's anything the GW community should have learned from gimmicky shit like this it's that when you trade simplicity for functionality, in the end it'll feel like a waste. I mean shit, we all hit the brick wall with rm2k (except for those who figure it's a great idea to spend 100 hours creating an in-game custom menu) when we realised that it's actually REALLY HARD to work with for high-level stuff.

Though... if I had PS3 I most def would be getting this :(

Yeah, LBP is just one of those games that everyone who owns a PS3 will get simply because it's a decent looking ps3 exclusive. But people won't go buy a ps3 just for this game (other games maybe but not this game).

Maybe I'll remake the Dreamcaster Castle. I made it in a level editor long, long ago... With this, I can bring it to a true Castlevania fruition. Maybe a pirate ship battle would be cool too. Fire a canon to ride a canonball to the next ship, hehe.

No game is worth switching consoles for. Too expensive, and the next gen you can probably pick it up for cheap to give the games missed a whirl.

Meh, if it's a good point. w/e. Just didn't want some idiots ranting about it being the latest PS gaytasm or something and what fool would buy this garbage etc.

I'd still rather play anything made in Little Big Planet because Little Big Planet looks fun (as opposed to GMod but then again I never looked into it that much)

I'm just saying I'd rather use physics to do cool jumpy shit than oh wow I can throw a truck at a plane or a mountain of Alyxss on fire

I really love the "holding onto things" mechanics.

It seems like a fun game, imo. Too bad I don't havea a PS3.

I don't know steel. You don't see that many dick monster on spore. I saw what, half a dozen since launch day.
More people are going to try create good content than people who are going to make dick levels. Wikipedia also works on that principle. More people are incline to to good stuff than stupid stuff.

I'd just like to point one thing out to those people saying this is a "gimmicky" game.
Little Big Planet is STILL a platform game you know, a damn good one at that. The levels are massive and well designed, with tons of hidden stuff to find and challenges to do/beat. Also, multiplayer is pretty awesome just for dicking around with other people.

As an extra is has a level editor that is similar to Phun built in. Even if you don't use it, other people will, which means you'll have access to a whole lot more levels than what come with the game (admittedly, at the moment most of the user made levels suck, badly).

wikipedia gets vandalized all the time, if I remember right spore actually had some people checking for dick beings and erasing them so seeing six is actually a surprise, and most importantly you do realize you took my joke example seriously? I mean people won't make GOOD/INTERESTING levels/creatures/WIKIPEDIA ARTICLES for the most part. they'll all be Final Destination/spooky stupid alien/My Little Pony ep 1-13.

There are games that people like enough to buy a console for them. I bought a gamecube simply for SSBM. Someone I know bought a PS3 for MGS4 and a PSP for MGCA. But LBP doesnt seem like one of those games.

no the point is that the main selling point is a gimmick, not a huge step towards UGC only games. we know there's a decent game there and if I was gonna drop 600 simoleons on a fuckin console and then buy a game it would probably be this one, but hype's gonna slay this.

That, I agree with you. Too much hype is bound to create disappointment once the game hits. Happened to GTA4, happened to Spore and it will probably happen to LBP. I still think that it won't be as bad as the disappointment we had with Spore. It was over hyped and people thought some things were going to be in the game but they ended up not being. With LBP, we know we are going to get a simple platformer with a huge editor and UGC. That point(UGC) can lead to disappointment but I guess we have to wait to see the general opinion before judging.
