Okay, so the game's been out for a good few weeks now and I'm surprised a forum so heavily emphasizing RPG's hasn't made a topic for it! Now I'm a big RPG buff, ...in fact that's all I play. I was slightly disappointed that the next gen-consoles didn't have many good RPGs... but right after I decided to buy the 360 for Eternal Sonata, I came across Lost Odyssey, and then anxiously awaited Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscovery, and then heard FF13 will be on 360!

...so good buy for me on the 360!

Now I'm playing ToV now, about 32+ hours in and I'll have to say, the game is phenomenal. My breakdown:

The graphics are fairly great. Feels like I'm playing an anime really. The game is very bright, vibrant, and there is NO slow down ever. The battles are a wonder to watch.

Story is also pretty good. Especially after that JUST unfolded. The story has so far been alright, but the last 4 hours or so, the story has gotten really good, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. The game's story is a bit more mature than previous titles, a bit darker primarly due to the badass main character, Yuri. He's Squall, of FF8, but without the drama.

The music is decent so far. Some tracks are cool, like the battles, but most are forgettable. They fit the scenes great, but nothing you'd hum to.

Now the difficulty is what's the best part of the game. Battles so far in the series have been too easy, but in this game, with enemies on the field which you can encounter to begin the battle, is awesome because you can lead 3 monsters to charge at you at once, and you end up having THREE BATTLES SIMULTANEOUSLY. So you have some 6-12 monsters right in front of you, and the battling is just awesome, can never get tired of mowing your way thru, it's just great!

The game's fairly long too! About 60 hours for the MAIN QUEST, and I'm sure there are any number of side quests to boost this number. Def. the best RPG out right now, so get it if you can!

Now, what are your thoughts of the game? Of the Tales SERIES too actually. Let me know your thoughts!

Tales is my most favorite series ever since I played Tales of the Abyss, I was in love with it. I don't think this can match it, but I can't find out, cause no XBox

I absolutely love this game. The battles are incredibly fun. I just got to Yormgen and I thought the story was good so far, but I've heard it gets better. Love the graphics too. I have to agree with Nemesis on this one, best RPG in quite a while.

I would just like to mention that it is an official feature of this game to purchase level-ups with real money.

I'm not familiar with the exact pricing details, but I believe 15 levels costs about the same as buying a warm coat for a homeless person

No, wait; are you serious? This is a joke - Yes, this is a joke.

The only real tales game I finished and enjoyed was the original Tales of Destiny back on the PSone during my more youthful days. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but since tales of eternia these games have been pretty garbage, and the only redeeming factor for the games being the fast paced battle systems.

I've never played the game, but let me guess; the story is a coming of age tale; the main character wields a sword, and is a bit full of himself. There's a female supporting character who is either really, really girly, or a tomboyish type (either extreme).

Yeah this is disgusting.

I hate Tales games so much but I bought this today with trade-in credit in a moment of weakness!  I don't know though everyone says it's a pretty good game (like friends of mine who also hate Tales games).

EDIT: I do have to say after about five minutes of playing that the game has an extremely attractive color scheme!

EDIT 2: Holy shit this game has a font selection!  That is pretty sweet I guess.

EDIT 3: hahah I just looked at the purchase screen for XBox live and yes it is pretty ridiculous.  They are selling things like Level Up +5 and Gold +300,000 etc.  There are a few free downloads though for those things.  Also all of them are extremely cheap (like $1) but still it is pretty silly.  But I don't know anyone who actually buys the shit deserves to get kicked in the stomach.

whelp if you're going to spend like $60 on a shitty game, i don't really see the problem with spending $1 to save yourself hours of grinding and get to the part that you're dumb enough to think is fun.  how is this any different from WOWGOLD, etc?

Fuck you all, this doesn't come out until 2009 or something in Australia (for no legitimate reason). I have to make do with Infinite Undiscovery (which isn't too bad, to be fair). :(

Yes it's bullshit, even though I probably wont play it theirs no reason to delay the game this much for pal regions. Also heard SE rushed Tri-Ace to release Infinite Undiscovery and apparently it has some pretty bad frame rate issues because of this.

It sort of does in places (getting into biiiig battles); no worse than Lost Odyssey, though, which to be fair is absolutely appalling in places.

I love RPGs, but sometimes I can't get into games like this. Based on the reviews, I would love to pick this up if I had the extra money. The problem is this Tales game is the same as every other one released. I have Tales of the Abyss, and I still haven't completed it, even though it's an okay game. The anime feel doesn't bother me too much, but I can't get into this game for some reason(just like those Persona games). Mala is right though, I really like the overall color scheme of the game, it looks beautiful. I just don't think I can shell out $60 on a game that's exactly like Tales of the Abyss, except prettier.

Mass Effect was like playing in slow motion half the time. I just recently finished Lost Odyssey and didn't have a single slow down or freeze up?

Yeah this is disgusting.

how is this disgusting!!

it's quite common and shouldn't be TOO SURPRISING at all (not just saying this to you obviously). it's purely optional tho and really doesn't matter unless if you like AVOID BATTLES or something, but yeah, this is a common Asian thing.
