Steam is having all the Rockstar titles go at 50% off this weekend.

I'm considering getting Midnight Club 2 and Manhunt (5 + 5 = 10 bucks) since I already own the rest (which is unfortunate because holy crap 30 bucks for a LOT of games).

Also, we should have a single unified "deals" topic.

Manhunt sucks.
It's not worth 5 of any currency.

Really?... I've heard mixed views on it. I'm also concerned with the possibility that people may tell me not to get it because some people think its a tasteless concept for a game and not because it's not fun.

What makes both of you think the games are so bad exactly? Can you be a bit more detailed on why? (I haven't bought the games yet.)

if it's as tasteless as it sounds (this is entirely based on what people have said about it, i've never played it), it shouldn't be fun, it should be terrible

it being a tasteless concept is a very valid reason for not buying it

Manhunt is just a very poorly executed game. As much as it glorifies violent deaths, thats about the only enjoyable aspect of the game, and even that gets really boring, fast. And the AI is plain retarded, all I do it is get the attention of the enemies, run around the corner, and ambush them the instant they turn the corner. No entertainment value, no challenge. Just some blood and guts that were the only reason it got publicity in the first place.

Midnight Club I haven't personally played, but I watched a friend play it and it looked like a really subpar racing game.

If you STILL feel tempted to buy them, at least watch some youtube videos of the gameplay so you can have a better idea what you're getting into.

Midnight Club 2 is a pretty decent arcade racing game (especially at that price) but it's easily overshadowed by the latest burnout.  Manhunt is just a boring stealth game that turns into a boring action game once you find guns midway through.

considering their weight is represented in bytes and virtual data that's not a lot of gold!

Ok Marcus, imagine a skinny hungover white boy doing a strangling gesture in your direction. This is the price you pay for being pedantic  :gwa:

My friend has never been able to get Max Payne to work on any of his computers.  There's always some error and the game crashes.  We've tried the various cracked versions I have but none of those worked.  He bought the game, used, and it didn't work either.  I wonder if the steam version might actually work, though there's no point in trying the demo first because he was able to download the demo and play it fine on his computers; it's only the full version that he has problems with.

Hmmm I think that maybe I just did a poor job of explaining myself.

lets say Pac-man had an actual story, and instead of having those pellets be, pellets, pretend they are babies, pretend that the powerup appears to be a weapon, and those ghosts are the police. Pac-man is a stark raving lunatic that is running around eating people's babies and he occasionally finds a gun to kill the police with (that for some reason he loses after a little while).

The game is, other then the graphics and sound, identical.
To me? I'd probably have just as much fun playing 'tasteless' pac-man as the normal pacman.

Thank you. and yeah checked some youtube vids. and you are probably right. Manhunt does look kind of boring. So I've decided against buying it.

yeah I own, the latest Burnout too. The thing that interested me though was the police chases in the game and the multiplayer. Unfortunately I read that the multiplayer is extremely easy to cheat in. Also, my friend told me that a racing game on the PC is very fun unless you have a steering wheel controller.

If max payne and max payne 2 are on offer than they are worth their weight in gold.

Yeah they are excellent games. and they are in the list of games being sold. To bad I already own both of them.

would you really not mind a game that was stupid and shocking to no artistic purpose just because it's IDIOT PUNCH BUTTON FAST? you wouldn't think once "man this is kind of fucking stupid and ruins my enjoyment of this game as a result"?

I not quite sure where you got "IDIOT PUNCH BUTTON FAST" out of my post. In fact your whole post seems pretty loaded.

If the game is fun, if its well made, chances are I'll like it. When I'm playing a game, I'm playing it to be entertained. This entertainment, can come from any part of the game, be it the game's concept, sound and graphics, gameplay, storyline or a combination of these. Since I've never played manhunt, I can't say that I like it or hate it. chances are from what I've looked at on Youtube I probably wouldn't because the gameplay looks pretty stiff and dull and the AI does seem really stupid. I'm not choosing to avoid the game because of its cruel, and purposeless murdering.

Also 'art' is a very broad term in my eyes. To me art = craft and these people crafted this game right? It's art then. It could be bad art, but it is still art.

I'm using your example of pacman slaughtering babies. there's no point to it other than shock value, and not in a chuck-palahniuk kind of way, just MURDER FOR THE SAKE OF CONTROVERSY. that wouldn't affect your enjoyment of the game? like, do monstrously stupid premises not make you think "aw, for fuck's sake"? can you seriously separate enjoyment from comprehension like that? because in that case you could watch shitty movies like The Day After Tomorrow or Transformers and say OOOOH SHINY.

also art is not just any craft, or I'm buying art at Subway and then eating it.

Yes, monstrously stupid premises DO make me say "aw, for fuck's sake" but stupid and tasteless is not the same thing. Though I admit the pacman eating babies is kind of stupid, so I suppose it was a really bad example.

stupid is generally universal, tasteless is not.

one person might have a taste for one thing while another wont.

I suppose I should have just said what I think is tasteless is different then what most people think is tasteless. Somebody will tell me "hey don't play this game it is tasteless" and I'll ignore then because they're probably a uppity prick because they assume everyone has their taste or at least should. What I want them to tell me is if the gameplay was good. Not if they think "oh there was no meaning behind the nuclear explosion."

Its like you listen to some of your favorite music and the person tells you you have no taste in music, it is the same stupid bullshit.

In fact I don't believe anything is 100% tasteless. If it was created, SOMEBODY has a taste for it. I just don't believe that someone can have BAD taste, just different taste.

As for the art thing, somebody had to come up with the ingredients and methods to make it. It might not be art in a traditional sense, but it is still art. I'll admit though food creation is more of a science.

entirely untrue

exhibit a:  meet the spartans

Quote
Despite the overwhelmingly negative critical reaction (the film has a 2% "Rotten" rating at Rotten Tomatoes[4]), the film opened in top spot at the US box office, grossing $18,505,530 over its opening weekend,[5] narrowly edging out fellow newcomer Rambo, which was briefly parodied in the credits of this film. By February 21, the film had grossed roughly $40 million worldwide, breaking even. The film grossed $38,233,676 in the United States and Canada and grossed $45,787,889 in foreign countries adding to an international gross of $84,021,565. Meet the Spartans for the first week came in #1, second week was at #4, then the third week it was #9.

critics agreed it was stupid, but obviously not all viewers agreed
