Mega Man and 8bit enthusiasts: Already beat 9 and looking for something else to fuel your nostalgia cravings? Rockman 7 FC is the solution. Released in 2008, it is a retro-remake of the classic SNES title. When I say retro of  course, I mean this:

In the year 20XX AD...

Released this year around June by some very devoted fans, the game isn't actually an NES rom hack, but rather a standalone exe file that emulates the 8bit games perfectly while retaining the stages and mechanics of Mega Man 7. Being complete, it's really impressive how much has gone into retroizing this further to 8 bit and yet still have it play so well. Even the music has been stylized to the NES sound chip exactly- It really almost feels like the game was originally on the NES. While it is mostly a novelty, the port to 8bit just has that charm. As you can tell from the screenshots below, the game actually follows the 8bit format so closely that the intro stage has been removed and the player can choose to tackle any of the 8 robot masters right from the beginning. I've actually always preferred this format myself as opposed to the four at a time trend that popped up in the later games.

Who are the baddies this time around?

These guys. Burst man is still as annoying as ever and Spring Man's stage is still awesome, nice to see these guys had their priorities straight..

so this is a nes style remake of an snes game?  would it be proper to call it a demake?

You have coined it & I shall now use this word for the rest of my days.

Um... anyway this looks pretty cool and to someone (I.E. me) who has beaten MM7 like a million times this is a fresh take on it (not to mention gives me a reason to play it yet again).

Well demake is a term that has actually been thrown around before, so it is proper to call it that I guess. Even though it's essentially the same game, it definitely let's us replay it from a different perspective. I myself actually preferred the 8-bit Mega Man over the SNES styled sprites, with Mega Man 8 being my favorite of them.

Meh who cares the Chinese have done this like 10000 times already

although it would be called like Megaman 13 and have a guy called FF MAN and %$%$54 MAN and have really bad playcontrol

Edit: And it'd end after the 1st level

Edit: Is it weird that I consider stuff like this kind of trippy

Edit: I wonder if the Japanese have done other stuff like this. Like personally I'd find it really interesting to see the Metal Gear Solid series in NES/MSX style. Like imagine the codec conversations in 2D instead of 3D and Jack and Rose are still talking about all that soap opera stuff and they're drawn like some Japanese dude traced some photos of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet

someone remade final fantasy x and inserted it into an nes cartridge.  someone on gw linked to the rom ages ago but it's in moonspeak

edit: there's also grand theft auto 3 nes which looks really really really good for a game that is supposed to actually run on the nes.

This looks pretty blazin.

I mean, to my deepest displeasure I wasn't ever into the retro NES megaman games back in the day when I had a NES because we never had any of them.

But ever since the first time I played SNES I've been pretty into those megaman games and 7 was one of my faves so

I'll definitely have to try this.

also whenever gradius rebirth comes out in english i am getting that and mm9 so

I tried this out, I played Freeze Man, pretty tough as the original, I'll be playing this later on. Its sure fun, but in terms of difficulty, Megaman 9 is still tougher.

Tigsource recently had a demake competition and had like 68 entries. they have some pretty good demakes, like TF2, Shadow of the Collosus, Haze, etc.

I didn't play that one, I just downloaded the ones that I knew what they were a demake of. BTW once the add more to Gang Garrison 2, I will totally play it more than I am now. It's good now, but is still kind of laggy, has 4 maps, the characters abilities aren't completed yet (engineers can't build turrets yet), once you grab the objective you can go back in your spawn zone and wait it out worry-free till your objective comes back so you can cap it, and worst of all if you kill the person that steals your objective you can't return it. It has some good potential though.

I thought breakcore and crap was really creepy in how far it would fetishize just this one sound and use it to make entire genres of music, but demakes are pretty creepy too

it's like oh no there's a single pixel of extra color on this screen it's all ruined

is it like really strict did they limit themselves to only 256 8x8 tiles for the graphics at once

Edit: And the flicker if there's more than 8 sprites on the same horizontal line

Edit: No I don't think it has the flicker therefore I hate it

This game is harder than the original for sure.

Though again I only played it at school on a keyboard. Gonna try it with a pad today.

Holy shit. I don't give a damn about Mega Man (shit game...) but I'm glad I looked at this topic.
