I recently bought an XBOX, and am planning on using my computer monitor to play it.  (This part is possible due to the AV to VGA adapter), however my monitor does not have built in speakers, and I don't really want to buy any.  Mostly because I have very little room to put them.  So...  My question is this:

Is it possible to play the audio from my XBOX360 through my headset(the computer one, or the one I got with my XBOX), and if so, what do I need.

there could be a way because the vga adapter has two AV sound adapters sprouting off of the wire http://www.breakitdownblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/xbox_360_vga_cable.jpg. So if you have a stereo or boombox that can receive an aux input, you should have no problem with running the cables through the back of that and listening through the headphone jack of the stereo

There should be a setting to change your 360 headset to play all sounds, but if you still prefer your PC headphones, you can get an RCA -> 3.5mm stereo TRS adapter, or just plug it into a stereo like DietCoke said. If you have an actual PC headset however, it is unlikely it will fit in the 2.5mm jack on the 360 controller.

figured out a way with a quick(not) trip to Radio Shack
I needed an adapter that was 2 female 3.5 mm slots, and the AV -> VGA adapter came with an AV -> 3.5 mm adapter as well.  An extra $3 but well worth it to save me from buying speakers + about 7 different devices that Best Buy said I NEEDED, which would've cost me about $300.

Do you not have an HD TV? Because I for one cannot understand why you'd want to connect the Xbox with non-digital cables, ew.

1080p is well within the capabilities of RGB and and the difference between RGB and DVI/HDMI video is almost nonexistant on something like an xbox

You could connect the 360 though the video-in on the laptop, or a device connected to the laptop.

The difference is not that much only if you use a huge expensive cable like Monster or something, since unlike digital cables, in RGB the materials' quality and manufacturing DO matter.

You're right
You just gotta shop around you can find quality cables much cheaper than overpriced monster crap though.

you can find high quality ones for $3 online.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

You can't even go up to 1080p with a regular RGB cable. Even with a component HD AV cable (which is the highest analog standard) you can only go up to 720p or 1080i. You need HDMI/DVI for 1080p. At least this is how it was with my TV when I had 360 connected through component HD AV cable.

EDIT. Apparently 360 does support 1080p through VGA, it was probably my TV that didn't support 1080p through component.

Or you could be a man and do this: http://benheck.com/Games/Xbox360/x360_page_5.htm.

There's some very nice Belkin cables, I got a stereo-to-rca...
Also, the other option is having it custom-made.

Isn't VGA the highest analog standard? Isn't it higher than component?
