I told you all its code!

I played it again last night, It has some good parts that i had fun and enjoyed playing, but they are not enough to correct the flawed levels and the clumbsy combat system.

I knew the game was going to be linear.  I had no problems with that and it's surprising that a first person platformer actually works.

But the game itself is just so boring.  How you make high speed action chases across rooftops boring is beyond me but congratulations devs this game is grade A 100% soporific.  My two biggest complaints that are pretty much game ruining are

Problem 1: The graphics.  Why is it that every console game this generation is either BROWN 'N GRAY or SHINYBLOOM?  The world of the game looks like it was wrapped in aluminum foil and the Mirror's part of the title is pretty ironic because every surface in the game is so fucking shiny and reflective.  I literally had to turn down the brightness and contrast in the game's options and then turn down my tv's brightness and contrast because EVERYTHING FUCKING SHINES and it's nearly impossible to see without doing so.

Of course, once you turn the shining down you realize how horrendous and plain the textures are.  Faith moves with surprising fluidity but every other character has laughably stiff and forced movements.  You think Bethesda is bad at animation, the badguys in this game can be mistaken for robots because they all move using the same stock animation.

Problem 2: Combat.  The game isn't supposed to be combat heavy but when you do get into fights you'll be pulling your hair out.  The only viable move in your arsenal is the sliding kick because every random police officer is skilled in kung fu and they manage to block every single one of your lightning quick blows by SLOWLY PUSHING YOU BACKWARDS.  It's actually pretty humorous to see this up close because the bad guys, with this dull look on their face and zero emotion, just lightly and haphazardly give you this little "shove" (it's not even that it's like watching a preschooler trying to shove a brick wall) which throws you completely off balance.  You'd think a jumping wall kick would knock them out in a single blow but no, the only way to defeat an enemy is to wait until they perform their generic pistol whip attack and you press TRIANGLE to grab their gun which has like 3 bullets and shooting someone doesn't register any kind of pain RINSE REPEAT

This game is just so flawed on so many levels and once again it proves to be a gimmick turned into an idea.  If someone with actual talent designed this game it could have been AWESOME because high flying in first person view is great but outside of jumping on boxes and shit this game is just so so so so so so so so so so BORING ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I don't see the irony.

It's a shame if this game is boring. I haven't followed it too closely but it always looked really interesting

this is really disappointing, like back when Edge first did a feature on it it sounded like the best idea ever.

the true irony is that there are no actual mirrors in the game

Marcus hate swedes :(

I really liked the demo and it's been getting some good reviews so far. I do expect the stuff Marcus brought up though... but the game feels different from many others and that's what I'm looking for when buying a new game!

The Demo flowed so nicely. Once you look past the part about the cutscenes looking like they were made by a 15 year old in flash the demo was nice, The pace to start off with was good, it flowed so nicely. The rooftops had this feeling to them as if you could go anywhere, you drop down the vent and flee the guards, It was great, Nicely paced and short. A Pretty good demo to introduce the rest of the game.

The rest of the game, Not so great. I've played it for about an hour and a half before i got frustrated at the thing and went back to playing fallout3. So honestly i cant call it the rest of the game, But its EA, I don't see them changing their ways.

I don't think the cutscenes looked amateur, they just had this really familiar style that most people know as "Esurance". Also, EA didn't make this game, I thought that was pretty well known at this point.

i'm pretty sure the cinemas used rotoscoping.  i got a huge Another World vibe while watching them.

and the game was developed by a studio directly funded and owned by EA.  yeah you can get technical and say pokemon was developed by hal laboratories, not nintendo but i'd give you the middle finger for being pedantic.

but then again, i do yell at people for misspelling BioShock.

So uh, unfortunately I think Ax Dude is sort of right here. I've played the full version now and it just ISN'T AS GOOD as the demo. There's too much tedious platforming - bits where you're not so much free running as just platforming in a little room. And like Ax Dude said, there are OBVIOUS PATHS the developers took ridiculous liberties to make. ladders suspended over nothing with crates for you to springboard off to reach it. Just completely unnatural shit that takes you out of the whole IMMERSION of parkourin' around a city. And man are there some annoying cheap deaths. There's too much DIE AND RETRY in this and I hate that, where you're stuck repeating the same 30 seconds of gameplay because you fucked up some tiny bit and fell into a pit. It's not REALLY as god awful as I might make it out to be; the platforming on a whole, especially outdoors, IS way better than I would have ever expected from a FPS. But there's too many tedious bits weighing it down.

Also yes combat is awful. It wouldn't have been if cops weren't, again as Marcus pointed out, so fucking skilled. It's too much work ever trying to lay down good combos or whatever because they constantly interrupt you by SHOVING YOU. They just shove you. Even with your slow mo whatever thing activated. The gunplay is obviously an afterthought too; the devs basically intend for you to just disarm and drop weapons rather than use them.

DICE seems to have a knack for FLAWED GAMES.

The obvious parts and level design really ruined it for me, There is this one bit that i just keep going over in my head, over and over.
In some underground subway area, There is a chainlink wire fence door, there is a gap between the ceiling and the top of the door that faith could squeeze through. But no, you cant. INSTEAD you have to wallrun and jump over a massive gap to the other side, activate a switch to deactivate a massive fan that has no safety covers or anything like that, you know giant fan, futuristic city, you would figure their OH&S people would've pounced all over that. But anyway, crawl through the deactivated giant fans to get to the other side of the door.
I mean Fuck, I'VE climbed over stuff like that, WHILE DRUNK.

And then there was the broken door, with a lock in the janitors office...... one lock. to unlock this ONE DOOR. To get to this janitors office you must run up a wall, leap off the wall and swing across a bar and climb up a catwalk.. where the railing is conveniently broken.

I haven't played this game yet since I'm waiting on the PC version. I'm still looking forward to it despite the flaws mentioned. I'm just wondering if this game will work with keyboard and mouse controls.

Either way, it looks like they're adding more physics or whatever to the PC version for anyone with a compatible card:

That video proves PC versions should be better but probably wont be like nearly all console ports.

also and this is debatable but I really don't see this as a mouse and keyboard game. it's a 3d platformer from the FPS point of view, remember how shitty those parts were in Half Life and shit like that?

I can't believe I missed this topic. I was following ME pretty closely, as the story is written by Rhianna Pratchett and I'm a pretty big fan of hers. (she's way better than her dad imo) How does the story of the game pan out? From what I'm reading here, all the problems are with shit gameplay and shit combat, but I'm not really seeing any mention of the story.

Also as I haven't posted here before *necropost reply from first page*

you can't "port" console games to PC's, all games are made and developed on PC's in the first place. The long dev time for the PC is to fine tune graphics (giving additional options something not needed on consoles, etc.), optimizing for the PC platform (testing various setups), additional content, etc.

I realise there's a few differences with the PC port of this, but they were all already 'done' pretty much when the console version came out. The whole idea of this 'staggered' release date for PC versions is due to piracy. EA themselves have said this in an interview or press release somewhere, but I can't remember where I read it. Basically they claim if a game comes out on PC first it will be pirated and nobody will buy the console version, so it comes out on console first so it actually gets sales.

Which I find hilarious because they think that every console gamer in the world also has a gaming pc which can cost more than all three consoles combined.

I played the demo and I thought it was great, and I was about to buy this game before I read this topic. Sucks that the full game isn't as good! Either ways I still want to give it a try, but don't want to pay full price for the game (70 euros here ugh), so I'm getting it used for 30 euros, which I hope is worth the game.

big thanx to dragonslayer for sig!
