Okay, I've gathered the resources and shit for my own campaign problem is I don't know what to run so I need input from possible players.

We can either do D20 modern which has an SRD for ease of learning and is nearly identical to regular D20 except with guns and car chases.  We'll be playing in an Urban Arcana setting which is modern shit with fantasy creatures that are "veiled" from mundane people (think Harry Potter with rifles or a less cheesy Big Trouble in Little China).

Or we can do preplanned Dungeon Crawl campaigns.  Dungeon Crawl is designed to resemble classic 2nd Edition KILL EVERYTHING THAT FUCKING MOVES so it'll be more action packed.

D20 modern has really deadly combat so it'll be leaning more towards roleplay than rollplay but Dungeon Crawl is nearly pure combat and while I'm a master of improvisation I can only alter the campaigns so much without completely butchering them.

Anyone interested?  I'll always be available to assist in learning but DnD rules are piss easy once you learn the basics.

I...want to be down for this. I don't have an IRC client so I'll see about getting one, and I have no books. Also I've never played before. But the D20 Modern setting sounds fucking awesome, so if I can learn the rules and shit I'll be in, job allowing (starting next week).

magazine i write for

I think there's only one IRC client and it's about as easy to use as any other messenger.  When we can't gather all the players together and during more roleplay heavy sessions we'll do play by email where I mail out a huge chunk of story or certain situations and allow the players to make decisions in which I'll email the results.

Playing by IRC is nice but it's only really NECESSARY for combat.  pbem'ing combat is a tedious task.

Man I want to do a roleplay campaign without vent (roleplaying into a mic whilst my roommate and random passerby stare in abject horror at my apparent insanity, although it sounds fun as hell, is not the best thing to do when you are not exactly on best terms with your roommate), so your campaign is looking like the better one for me, but I don't know about modern. It's identical to fantasy d20 you say, and I'm kind of down with the rules for that but I'm not quite the expert. Also I don't know what races/classes they use (Are they the same as a fantasy setting or did they cut out orcs or what?).

If there is a class anywhere close to a sniper though, I am basically in no matter what.

I'll probably end up writing an "Urban Arcana" article (I'll probably hop on it today but I've still gotta write my Hookah and sega saturn article argh) but it basically the exact same thing as DnD rules except there's a few different things.  As far as races go, Urbana Arcana has all the base races as regular DnD as well as monster races like Bugbear and Snakeblood Human but then you're dealing with a level adjustment.  In Urban Arcana, mundane humans perceive monsters as explainable anomalies (a fireball is a "gas leak", an ogre is a strong hairy man) but some humans learn to see magic and monsters as what they really are.  Fantasy creatures (referred to as Shadowkind) can already pierce the veil but they lose all memory of their past lives except their names and close family.

Yeah I think I'll just go ahead and write up my Urban Arcana campaign setting.  It'll include info on the game world, character creation, and a short little "how-to" tutorial for newcomers to d20 modern.

JEEZ THIS WILL BE LONG.

I lurk in #darkling and complain a lot (mostly about how I think DnD is shite and things like that). I'd really like to join a campaign in euro-timezones though (GMT to GMT+4 about). I'm no stranger to GMing but I'm also completely out of practice and haven't played an RPG in a couple of years now. (i.e. I'd really like to be a player)

But since this thread exists I thought I'd throw out a slight shoutout if there's any interest in a euro-centric game?

I'd be up for D20 modern when I actually know when I can be active online.

It looks like my d20 write up will take longer than expected.  I'll instead be organizing straight up 3.5e DnD session using some old books I have.  More info will probably go up in a topic this week.

I told Medieve this already, but I basically just got confirmation, so...a lot of stuff that's been taking up my time irl (most of this is just straight up my grandma going bonkers) is gonna clear up soon after Halloween (they got medicine that doesn't make her a complete bitch now, hooray!). So if people are interested, I can prepare a Fantasy Ground 2 campaign. Fantasy Grounds is a virtual tabletop, think an IRC client if it had graphics and didn't suck dick. What this means is you get character sheets in a program, dice rolling in a program (no bots), and you can even see what the maps and graphics look like...on your computer screen??? whoah!

It'll be 3.5 and probably high magic cause I like high magic and you can't stop me. A cool thing about FG is it even includes all the rule books and stuff, so you can quickly look something up. If anyone is interested, lemme know. I still have to prepare it, but I got map maker tools etc, so I can make maps up and what not probably by the end of the 2nd week of November and be ready to go. It'd be late at night on a weekday most likely, but not super late, probably 9PM central ish, but we can always work out times later.
