now i am getting kind of mad because there really WAS no reason they couldn't have done the plot via playing through the fall of the city except for the major plot twist at the end.

but then later i quote you so i bet we fleshed it out together.

yeah i'm pretty much with headphonics on his argument with earl chip and then hundley

also now that i think about it, starting you out as a character at the high point of rapture then leading you through its downfall would've been so much better. i had never for some reason thought of that until i just read it.

anyway, that's not what bioshock was though and i still like it for what it was: a dystopian society anti-rand crazy people fps with a decent (not great and plus the plot twists and stuff after like the halfway point got weak) plot etc etc.

hey concerning introducing the game before the fall of rapture i thought part of the point of the game was you entering a post-apocalyptic underwater world and first being introduced to what seems to be a massive failure and then trying to figure out why it collapsed. i mean if you think going ff6 and starting the game while everything was on its way to destruction it'd be a completely different game.

its supposed to start off as a game, you know, and games mostly just place you in a random environment where things have gone to hell already without giving you any clue why or how. bioshock lets the player choose to either explore the reasons behind the collapse by collecting tape recorders or ignoring it completely, but even then the story that takes place in rapture still gives meaning without the background.

the whole point is that it's a myster fps which challenges the player to find out exactly why the collapse happened. not being fed this shit through cutscenes or whatever.

oh shit that's a other point i left out

the tape recorders part was cool. there was some pretty important shit you missed if you didn't look for them, it was a "leftovers of a ruined world" type thing.

I liked it, but I thought it was really fucking weird that these people just like LEFT these big honking tape recorders out on like, a park bench or behind a toilet. You'd think someone would have gone "Oh, better bring this with me."

well yeah the size was pretty huge, but also it kind of makes sense a little. some parts were flooded and so the stuff would be carried away etc.

but at the same time water would screw it up so who knows! questions make this fall apart :(

Or in a nook hole under a staircase that can only be accessed by jumping on a box and crawling through an air vent.
