no, damnit. i make use of your film reviews. it is my right to have people on the internet tell me what to think. also, i don't think jamie was being facetious.

The other week, I watched a film called Suicide Bus, which is about a bunch of Japanese people who are going to die in an accident to commit insurance fraud. It was a lot like Kikujiro in composition. You could have told me that Kitano directed it and I wouldn't have blinked. I might have said he was getting a little stale. I liked it though. It succeeded in its comedy as well as in its more serious moments. It created the right kind of tension and has a bunch of interesting stuff expose a bunch of interesting characters. I might not recommend it, but it was entertaining and I'm thankful enough for that.

edit: see. people who aren't me need to write about movies. otherwise i will be an imbecile for the rest of my life.

yeah you do that and i fucking kill you. there'd be even less uh humanity/exchange in this forum without these posts you bighearted dork!!
also i wanted to discuss/say something about it's a wonderful life since it comes every christmas! and i thought it was kinda shaking with how it described the hopeless odds/shame but on the other hand isn't that just me getting kicks from a somewhat of a syrupy movie? (falls on knees crying every time the snowman plays on christmas) and yeah i didn't think about the whole american family model buuut how's how is the whole solidarity-one for all ending gonna fit into the whole capitalistic ideology huh...
also yeah i guess it's stewart just being hella emotional! i just get taken/crushed by stewart's acting/liveliness/life-likeness, it's unbearable i can't look that's me in trouble/bad ends... jimmy rules though i haven't seen his other movies AND i guess he's kinda extreme in emotions/acting compared to other actors in the movie but then again that's pretty much the only reason why the movie is as good as it is. it's pretty hopeless situation people can recognized themselves in and stewart is being hella wild/crazy uh emotional from soul crushing shame-depression to wild happiness to the quiet astonished euphoria at the end of the movie...
yeah i'm rambling but still! the difference with that movie that save the strange mindplay/christian fantasysection it's more realistic turn of events and DESCRIBING of the emotions/process within them.

*all of ramci's family is poutfaced/sweatdropping and trying to calm ramci down as he withers and slithers on the floor groaning along the events of it's a wondeful life and scream and bellows with jimmy stewarts reactions! it'sa a wonderful life resemblencing more of a football match! ramci is crying aloud/openly at the ending, runs outside and into the snow unable to control the wild feelings!*

EDIT YES I LIKE/DIG/SEMI-LOVE IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE YOU SMART FUCKS, HOLY SHIT YOU GOT NO SOUL IF YOU DON'T FALL APART WITH JIMMY STEWART!!!! FUCK YOUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

edit prepared for responses THAT HUNDLEY'S GREEN POST WITH FUCKYOUFUCKYOU'S

my dad loves that movie, and growing up I could never stand the speech patterns, plot, and pacing. they all combine to within minutes plunge the viewer into the deepest depression possible, just sucking all the serotonin out of your brain. at one point isn't there like an older posh woman frivolously laughing at something only the viewer & jimmy know is awful? I'm getting anxious and depressed just thinking about it. idk maybe I don't like the idea that any society could ever spawn a film like this and I have trouble accepting it or it's probably a synesthesia thing

Just watched Because of Winn-dixie it's a dog movie but it's kinda great (the dog doesn't die) and it gve me the impression that the dog didn't really contribute much to the story. Anyway it's a cute movie starring young Annasophia Robb go check it out.

Also watched Soul Surfer few days back. It was great and I honestly didn't see the (spoiler?) shark biting her arm off which happens early in the movie. Glad it didn't pull another Terabithia but still my intentional lack of any info besides the title of the movie happily grants me surprises. It's automatically touching as it's based on a true story but I agree with some critiques that it's a little bit too Hollywood-ified. Could have been better.

Then I rewatched(for the 2nd time) just a few minutes agoBringing Up Baby it's an oldie screwball comedy film and it's good! I'm really interested on viewing these oldies gems, unfortunately when viewing the imdb page it seems some people hates the film. I mean I don't get it, it's witty and sill, also the overall plot is pretty decent. Anyone else watched it? What do you think?

Then I'll watch The Reaping later. I just know it's a horror something type movie and Robb is there so automatically I'll watch it.

PS
I didn't yet watch Grave of the Fireflies and Akira as I think I'm kind of want to lay off drama movies for a while so I'll be sticking with some comedies and other genres before trying those two animes out. Also, I'm having this bias as the two are anime, not that I don't like anime but it'd feel weird after a series of real life movies, guess watching gintama will get me back on the 'anime' mood.

I had to watch Rendition for an Ethics class. It's alright. It did a pretty good job of building suspense and the story was decent. My main problem is that it plays both the "The American Government is Evil" trope along with the "Only the White American Guy Can Solve Anything" trope. Also, one of the subplots was a flashback the entire time without telling you that until the end, so it's like mindfuck for about 5 seconds until you figure out the order of things. Overall it's pretty good. I wouldn't say it's great but I'd recommend it.

watched "Cobra" starring Sylvester Stallone and based upon a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone. I watched it because I have zero respect for art or humanity as a whole. "No Future".
The film "Cobra" is about the titular "Cobra" as played by Sylvester Stallone, "Cobra" is a police man called in for the most dangerous situations. He has a little picture of a cobra embossed on the handle of his gun although whether this was the result or origin of his nickname remains unclear. The hobbies of "Cobra" include cleaning guns, shooting guns, humiliating hispanics and washing his import sportscar atop a roof at night while 80s saxophone music plays. In an opening scene where he is called in to dispatch a crazed shotgun killer in a supermarket, he pauses while sneaking in to take a sip of refreshing Coors Beer from a nearby display case. The label of the beer is pretty clearly displayed. After wasting the perp he is confronted by wussy liberal media types who tell him that all citizens have rights. "Cobra" is so upset by this that he flings one of the reporters on top of a victim's corpse. He actually says "Rights?" in a truly disgusted tone of voice just before he hurls the terrified reporter. He has a portrait of Ronald Reagan in his office which I think is actually the same one from chef's twitter avatar.

The enemies in "Cobra" are a pack of dangerous psycho killers. Their hobbies include cutting up women, sharpening knives in darkened rooms, staring wildly into the middle distance at all times and grunting or making general bestial noises. There are also repeated scenes of these killers gathering in an abandoned warehouse to rhythmically bang axes together. Each killer holds a fireaxe in each hand and clashes them together in unison. They do it over and over without anyone talking. It's never really gone into but this scene is used repeatedly throughout the film, typically intercut with scenes of "Cobra" doing his thing.
Some of the psychos have special personalities eg there is a "Sniper" guy who uses a sniper rifle, a "Knife" guy who enjoys knives and only kills people with knives, and a butch woman who is idk just generally deviant I guess. But most of the killers just get shot immediately and are not really distinguishable from one another. The knife guy has a special knife with spikes on the handle and a curved blade. It looks like something sold for $29.95 in the back of a magazine about dragons.

The plot of the psychos is to kill people. They just go around killing people at random and causing havoc. They kill people one at a time and pretend it's the work of a single person. Only "Cobra" suspects the truth. They are witnessed in the act of killing by a young supermodel lady who is immediately distinguishable as a potential love interest owing to the fact that special attention is taken in the film to point out she disapproves both of drugs and of casual sex. For some reason the psycho league are really intent on killing her!! considering that everyone in the group is more or less willing to sacrifice themselves and as they have no stronger motives than that of killing random passersby in the streets. But they don't know "Cobra" is on the case. Well, I guess they do eventually because they send two people to kill him and he shoots them both in his apartment. But that's never mentioned again, even when he's trying to persuade the fatcats in police force management that there's more than one killer. All the fatcats want to talk about is departmental budget. They don't like "Cobra"s tactics and make sure to say so! This film resembles a jRPG in that each character is very careful to lay out their current concerns and motivations explicitly as often as possible.

There's a scene where "Cobra" and the supermodel are on the run into the countryside. She asks if there's anything they can do to stop these Freaks and Crazies from getting out onto the streets:
"There's all these crazy people everywhere. Why can't the police just put them away and keep them away?"
"Cobra" tells her that the judicial system immediately lets such people back out onto the streets. She says it's "sick". They both look pretty disgusted about this.

The final fight between all the dudes takes place in an industrual metalwork factory. "Cobra" sets the sniper guy on fire with a bucket of gasoline and says "You have the right to remain silent" just before tossing the match. Then he impales the knife guy on a hook and pushes him into some welding flames. After this he punches the captain who was giving him a hard time and then he drives off on a motorcycle to some New Romantic music and that's the movie!!

Hey dirtbag, you're a lousy shot. I don't like lousy shots. You wasted a kid... for nothing. Now I think it's time to waste you!

I would say it was pretty thoroughly heinous and I think less of myself for watching it. I guess it was kind of fascinating in the same way as that one General Hospital Guerilla Base Infiltration arc in terms of seeming retroactively like a perfect distillation of Reaganism or something, but that's something I have no real experience in anyway. I think earlchip once mentioned wanting to hear how I still vaguely picture America and I think it would be a sort of cross between this movie (or equivalent), Earthbound optimism, the first New York Dolls album and "Ghost Rider" by Suicide. Well, that's my post.

I watched Cobra on TV some time ago and I remember it as seeing the facade crumbling away from the 90s macho action movies, revealing the administrators and funding model. The scene that stands out is the opening because of the constant presence of Pepsi,

I vaguely recall the bad guys being communists or something (that's why they kill people obviously!) But by your post that sounds wrong. Either way, the political images are so poorly concealed that it makes it an interesting movie to some extent. Slamming baddies that are bad because they are bad with an enormous pepsi sign glowing in the background. Cobra murders to keep ordinary folks like you and I safe from the psychos that will otherwise burn our corporate guardians to the ground and rob us of our prosperity and the sanctity of the american dream.

that's pretty cool. I hope you go into it even more sometime, fantasy america is probably my favorite place. I will watch this movie, it honestly sounds like something you'd make up! eg murder dog. sylvester stallone is also the face of my city and literally the most visited monument out of all the historical and cultural attractions here (for those who don't know, philadelphia is probably the most historically significant city in the states). my sister also loves him and is convinced he's a good person. in 2008 he was seen campaigning support for John McCain, alongside Chuck Norris.

So I rewatched Rambo First Blood and Rambo First Blood: Part 2 (Should have entitled second blood lol). I remember liking the whole series from years back but now that I watched again, part 2 seems off and just sucky. I mean first blood is still very good but part 2 is just laughable almost comedy and the message isn't as good as part 1s.

I've been on a psychology experiment-gone wrong binge recently, so I watched Das Experiment and Die Wielle. Das Experiment is really good. Much better than the American remake The Experiment, so watch that instead. It's about a group of men who sign up for a psychology experiment where they are then randomized to either be a prisoner or a prison guard for 2 weeks, and then get moved into a prison complex. (It's basically a movie about how the Stanford experiment could have escalated even further). (Unfortunately the English subtitles on the internet leave a lot to be desired, so I've taken the liberty of improving them so that certain sentences make sense. If anyone wants them let me know).

Die Wielle was alright but I wasn't as impressed with it as the former movie. It's about a high school teacher who gets stuck having to teach Autocracy (instead of Anarchy as he wanted) for project week, so he gets the brilliant idea to demonstrate to his class how an autocratic government works by having his class become one. Things quickly get out of control.

Up next I'm going to watch El Metodo (The Method) because I'm a sucker for these kinds of films as well. It's about a group of people all applying for the same high level position for a company, and they're all in one room together and slowly get disqualified one by one determined by group consensus.

If anyone knows of any other movies similar to the above in any language let me know because I'd love to watch them!

Serge Gainsbourg's "je t'aime".
A homosexual garbage truck driver falls in love with a girl at a gas station because she looks like a boy. It's a bizarre film with toilet humour and distressing drama throughout, exactly what you'd expect from Gainsbourg. Many scenes are akward, though the use of contrasting pretty dark moments with beautiful music is quite effective compared to more mainstream atempts, this film 'gets' the perverse feeling behind it.
Essentially half the film consists of Jane Birkin walking around in the nude, she has a very cute face, but is skinny to the point where she makes Kate Moss look like Homer Simpson and the screams she makes during anal sex atempts will haunt me forever.

Thing is, I kind of like it. It's a bizarre film that has heart yet purposely distances itself from that feeling until it verges on superficiality. Which to be honest is prettymuch the best way to sum up Serge Gainsbourg himself.

Watched Blair Witch Project for the first time.

Meh. Kind of dumb. It definitely captured the 90's grunge youth in the first 10 minutes of the movie though which I found mildly amusing.

Watched children who listen to echoes from beyond, something like that. Kept me entertained up until the end which was a complete anti-climax.

Watched this a few years back, yea this was interesting and kind of scary. I feel bad for the teacher because of that one fucked up kid.

I don't know how I initially came across it but I viewed Renaissance. The graphical style was very interesting and certain scenes had very nice cinematography. (There's one scene I liked in particular that uses a glass reflection to superimpose the main character's face onto another.) Unfortunately, the story itself wasn't that interesting or compelling. In the end I felt like I was watching a video game play out. What makes no sense though is how many people had British accents when the whole thing is supposed to take place in a futuristic Paris. (The main character is voiced by Daniel Craig).

Still, I say it's worth checking out just for the graphics which I'd describe as being a black and white version of Mirror's Edge.
