I did my third year Classical Studies paper on colonialism in the Archaic period and how the Greeks had a variety of colonial contacts, and how Greek customs shaped thier views of the cultures they came into contact with. The focus was mainly on the dichotomy and representations of Scythains and Thracians, but I also covered Egyptians, Celts, and Phoenicians.
Btw Hermes is usually depicted wearing a wide-brimmed traveller's hat, and has wings on his ankles. His fancy stick is called a caduceus.
I know its too late now but sometimes if you have a picture test, you'll get lucky and the potter/artist will have written the guy's name on the vase.
