it's just really unfortunate that this game actually has a team of writers.

This!

Playing it now, it's absolutely perfect. Bigger skirmishes, more epic settings, more epic REASON to fight, better graphics, animations, music, scope, everything's awesome. I'm on Act 2 out of 5, I'm guessing the game's a decent bit longer than the first as well. I'm guessing 12 to 18 hours?

GT review said it's solid 8 hours. I saw this game at shop yesterday but decided not to buy it because I still haven't played the first one (and I own it), so don't know if I like it at all. Looks good though.

big thanx to dragonslayer for sig!

Oh yeah the being able to move while down is a great addition, problem is when you play online some people just ignore you and continue killing shit. I always try to revive people when they need it unless I'm about to get hit by a shotgun or something cause yeah it wouldn't matter anyway haha.

Horde has got to be one of the funnest online modes, Submission is my fave right now(You have a civilian you shoot til he goes down then you grab him and use him as a shield while the other team tries to kill you an take him back to the halo point of where you take him to win the match), also I finished the game today, great ending and obviously left enough for the last game in the series.

I haven't even played the first one, bar for five minutes at a convention when it came out a few years ago. The game sort of appeals to me, but I have far too much else to get through at the moment to really be worried about this.

Edit: Jesus, this was a pretty useless post.

The release of Gears of War 2 is a week later than the release of Fallout 3.

There's your mistake, Epic.

meh I played GOW 1 when it came to the pc and though it was somewhat pretty with average if not repetitive game play.  Then I saw the all the trailers and junk for the second and only had one question: you sure that isn't the first one?  Really graphically its a duplicate and gameplay wise I see little to no major changes/additions.  As far as horde goes didn't Epic release a certain game called UT2k4 that had this type of co-op endless enemy waves gameplay already?

The good thing I can say for it is at least it had some solid programing going into it as there were none of the random crashing/bugs that pops up in almost all new releases over the past 3 years...

You are really lucky if you believe this and you played Gears 1 on the PC.

lol well I did also install it on my older pc with a 2.2ghz pentium 4 and a 6800gt card and even on the lowest settings it failed to deliver co-op play at all :P  But my main rig played it on full without any problems which surprised me for a port.

never played the series but this review is neat
edit: holy hell some of those comments on it. a few people just didn't like the review in general, but there are SO MANY going "8.5? 9.0? ARGH IT'S A PERFECT GAME YOU DICKHEADS." jesus christ hardcore game fans suck.

This game is fucken awesome, better then the first I can tell you that. Graphics are the best Ive seen on a console thus far. Gameplay has bee fine tuned and the whole grabbing someone when their limping is probably one of the funniest and helpful things they added. The campaign truly is more bad ass and better as Cliffy B said it would be. The destructible environment doesn't really add much to the gameplay itself but is still a nice addition for the atmosphere of the game.

posts like this make me not want to play the game.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

Been really looking forward to this game. Going to buy asap, currently replaying through the first one.

I hate all the hype that surrounds this game, but the game itself is still amazing. I'm glad to hear that Gears 2 will actually be more story involved seeing as I was pretty confused throughout the first..

Finished it earlier today.
Overall it's a better game than the first one on pretty much all aspects but the ending was just... terrible and abrupt and while not on the same shitty level as Halo 2, it's pretty close.

Oh well, still an awesome game (with a bunch of bugs)...
Ock ock, Ack ack!

I've noticed a trend of developers getting things right for a while, then they suddenly start not getting it midway or near the end of developing a game. I wonder what goes through their heads during step 2 before step 3 sometimes.
A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

Gears of War frustrated the fuck out of me. I liked it but there were so many gay bits. I hated the Kryll, I hated the Junker, I hated the mine carts, I hated Lambent Wretches.

How does Gears 2 rank on the FRUSTRATION LEVEL? Because there was a fuckload too much DIE AND RETRY in Gears 1. I don't like that sort of gameplay. Repeating the same five or ten minutes of gameplay, ad nauseum, until you finally don't fuck up whatsoever turns me off real damn quick. It's how games USED to be I guess, but it's not how I like them now. Plus I am not good at vidgame.

Yeah, I'm playing through GoW 1 right now, and I'm stuck at refilling the Junker.  The first wave (just drones or whatever) goes down fine, but when they bring in the Boomer, it finds me next to instantly, and I die.

The one time, I managed to kill the Boomer, I was killed by the Kryll RIGHT UNDER A LIGHTPOST!!!!

Perhaps I should play online with a friend or something...

I didn't find that part so bad at all. Just watch the Boomer and keep on the move when he's ready to fire a shot or stay under cover in the gas station until he goes down. His gun has like a 30 second reload time so it can be pretty easy to judge when he's going to fire.

I kept dying here but it's only because I kept running out to save Dom because he's a fucking moron when the AI controls him and he runs right into the enemy troops.
