Fireworks is my current favorite. So damn groovy.

I bought Water Curses Ep when I saw em live.
Dunno what's so great about Water Curses tho

yeah, fireworks is pretty good, only thing is that it talks about babies so it kind of creeps me out...

soup, you know any other bands like this?

El Guincho is the closest thing to panda, as in, he is also part of the "just sampler" musician that seems to be starting on as of lately. But he's much more into the tropicalia stuff like Os Mutantes and such. Panda is more surfer, and comparisons with Brian Wilson and Pet Sounds seems to be everywhere.

High Places is a sampler duo, although I don't really dig.

But then, AC is a truly original band on their own. Their sound changes all the time.

I could say early Battles (their EPs) are comparable in their creative force for making new original and creative sounds and songs.

The Dodos have a sort of thrashy acoustic thing going on which is kinda similar to the stuff Animal Collective did on Sung Tongs. Kinda. Their album Visiter is great anyway, even if the AC comparisons aren't that warranted. Guini doesn't dig High Places, but I think they're wwwwwwwonderful. I also thought the Sigur Ros song Gobbledigook sounded veeeeeeeery much like AC.

thanks guys, those are some awesome suggestions.
based on frist impressions and only a song or two:

el guincho has a pretty cool feel. a little repetetive for me, but not bad still.

high places was alright. singing was oaky, but drums were awesome aewsome!!

battles were great. creepy in a good way i think.

dodos were cool too

and that sigur ros song was a bit animal collective-esque. the singing maybe?

i'm going to listen to all of that some more to get a better idea though..

where are they playing?

edit: okay that is kind of a stupid question to ask on the internet lol, i guess that's usually the automatic question i ask when people mention they are seeing a show. just for conversation's sake, what type of venue are you seeing them at and what city? i just looked at their page and they're playing all ova tha place!! :O (no where near me though :()

(also, of those mentioned bands, the only one i've really stayed interested in is battles- i quite like them. especially the song atlas...)

i've never seen this comparison drawn!  anyway the dodos are okay.  i like their instrumentation but visitor is kind of inconsistent and i think their songwriting could be a lot better on most of the tracks.  it's got some ones i like a lot though.  it is like one of these bands that i think i would dig a lot if they wrote more interesting songs.

yeah. i'd agree its a bit of a stretch comparison-wise. they were okay, but nothing catchy enough to listen to often imo..

I'm seeing them at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.  It's like a 2 (maybe more, LA...) hour drive, but I'm going with a ton of friends, so it should be awesome.

Edit: I recently discovered Battles, and they are amazing.

Person Pitch is awesome. I'd venture to say that it's just as good (or maybe even better..) than Strawberry Jam. I heard Panda Bear's next album is supposed to be out sometime early next year though I doubt he'd release it too close to MPP.

dont even like blackstar that much but if one of my friends was such a dumbass he'd rather listen to fucking PERSON PITCH over blackstar and started screaming about it I'd unlock the doors and kick him out of the vehicle.

even if he was driving.

Person Pitch is better than Strawberry Jam.
The difference lies in that PP is more personal and gets more of the inside of you. It sounds like tubular beach memories. I dunno, I think it is harder to get that level of being "touching" than at what Strawberry Jam (imo AC's best yet) achieves at being out-there fun.

In the end it is mostly a matter of perspective, they are both ridiculously good.
