Hookah is best while stoned and in the privacy of your home with some friends discussing some "deep" ideas.

Buying it in the bar is a waste of money and its more of a novelty. Doing it alone is just kinda sad, unless you're lazy and out of smokes

I used to smoke them at the hookah~lounge which was kinda like a hookah bar but with better atmosphere. then some horrible people started hanging outt there and the manager set up a tv with guitar hero so I will probably never smoke a hookah again.

The thing I hate the most about the hookah bar in my town is how fucking loud they play the music.  The entire restaurant is about the size of a large living room, but the music is loud enough for a concert.  You can't talk with anyone, and it's fucking pointless to be there with friends.  They also bring in DJs all the time (WHY?) and their music is even louder.  It'd be cool if they just did the laser shows, because the smoke makes it look awesome, but it's just not fun when you can't communicate with anyone.

I like going early in the day, when no one is there and the music is off.

i never tried hookah but i smoked some shisha a couple of times. i definitely spelled that wrong. anyway i didn't really see the appeal, it tasted a bit nicer than cigarettes but that was all and that means it's like "now slightly less disgusting than before!" with me cos it didn't do anything for me.

If you smoke shisha out of a hookah and get a few really good hits it will get you really (lightheaded?) I guess and its pretty sweet. Also the smoke is really smooth.

I picked up a hookah a couple of deployments ago. I haven't used mine as of yet, but that's mostly because I don't have any coals for it. I ordered some coals and a few packs of shisha online, though, so when those arrive I'll get some people together and chill out on my balcony.

I've never been to a "hookah bar," only restaurants which serve it as an after-dinner activity while you digest your meal. Frankly, sitting around smoking and drinking tea does seem kind of boring. I like the idea of smoking after you've eaten, while you're still lazy from the food, better.

I think this is how it is in various parts of the middle east, at the least in Egypt, Iraq and Turkey. That would be interesting if restaraunts did this here, especially because I believe in many states that have anti-smoking laws the only way hookah lounges are able to operate is because they make 40% or 60% (some figure, it probably varies) of their sales from tobacco products. But yeah I'd enjoy that much more than just a regular hookah bar type setup.

Well, from my experience hookahs are both an after dinner thing and a conversation piece.  People don't sit around watching tv and chatting on the internet like western cultures do; they go to a bar, coffee shop, or teahouse and they smoke and talk.  You walk down the busy streets and there are just guys sitting around sipping tea, watching you walk by, and chatting amongst themselves.  News spreads quickly because in the middle east everyone just TALKS.  Even in a big city, people pretty much know every face and name on the block while I can't even name a single person living in my building.

Is there a college, university, or generally large population of youngsters with absolutely nothing to do in your area?  If so and there isn't a hookah bar I suggest you invest in one because you'll be rolling in the $$$

Do hookah bars usually serve drinks as well or just stuff to smoke? I'm actually somewhat interested in this because that seems like a good business to invest in and/or start.

I just went back to Mirage (the hookah bar in my area), and they really cleaned the place up nicely.  There are a ton of new flavors, and the bar is so much better.  They still play music too loudly, but not until later than they did before.

Going mid-afternoon is still the best time to go.

I would imagine most of them are also bars, as drinking and smoking hookah go well together.
