I can't respect Sean Penn after I saw I Am Sam.

so it is more believable that the academy not only bothered to watch a movie not up for best picture despite being known for not doing this and decided to collectively unconsciously ignore one of Mickey Rourke's best performances to date just to show the gay community they were on their side and give Sean Penn another Oscar.

yep this makes sense.

Quote
I have never watched the Oscars, not once.

What's it like?

I've never watched all of it because holy shit it's SO FUCKING BORING. oh my god. I am not even saying IF I WAS INTERESTED MAYBE, for years they had dance numbers and shit and the hosts are just awful. BILLY CRYSTAL. jesus fucking christ. and it's all this halfhearted jab shit and b-roll edits of Billy Crystal being put in movie scenes lol. the only times the Oscars are interesting are when someone says "fuck bush no more blood for oil" and you can see someone else get all sourfaced.

like ignore the "why do you care about it" aspect I know no one who is a worthwhile human being who watches this shit because it's so painfully unfunny and boring. none of you care about costume design! sure they deserve an award but none of you care for anything other than best picture, best actor/tress, best supporting actor/tress, and best animated feature. maybe international film if you want to appear like you're cultured but usually everyone knows you're full of shit.

the best part is how year after year everyone knows who's going to win and people still tune into this garbage. betting sites had Slumdog as 99% likely to win. 99%!

I really don't get this shit at all.

anyway nah i do think they're really awful.  i don't even get your argument here.  heh COMON dude...ya didnt say mtv awards and golden globes are awful.  ummm theyre not relevant to this topic???  all this shit is absolutely terrible.  i don't understand how the golden globes being bad somehow makes the oscars better or good.  but besides the part where i do not get your logic

this is probably where our opinions diverge.  because you know, i do think that makes it really horrible.  "hollywood glam" and half the nation or more being ensconced in CELEB CULTURE is pretty fucken disgusting as it happens and idk how you can honestly look at it and think it is anything but really, truly horrible and embarrassing for anyone who is into it.  i do not go around being like ARGHH CELEB WORSHIP but yea, it's definitely 100% terrible.

I don't know, I think you're kind of pulling a minor KONIX HATES ANIME sort of moment here. I didn't bring up MTV or the golden globes to say HEY HEADSY...YOU DIDN'T MENTION THIS, but more that I think THOSE shows are the ones that are really horrible and kind of what you are describing. the oscars are certainly not ART but they are also not DISGUSTINGLY BAD, i don't think, at least not in the way you are putting it! i just think it's really badly staged and kind of meaningless.

besides does this whole OBSESS ABOUT CELEBS thing really exist that much out of really dumb people? i mean other than following shit like PARIS WENT TO JAIL... POOR PARIS kind of INCIDENTALLY because it was on the news / daily show whatever, i don't really think i know anyone who actually CARES about what celebrities do or thinks HMM GOTTA CATCH E! TONIGHT other than really moronic people like, i don't know, valley girls or something.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

no they are pretty disgustingly bad (they are basically the Misaos of the movie world) and a lot of people do this celeb thing. remember when anna nicole smith died? or when everyone was like HEATH LEDGER

A LEGEND!

or CHRISTIAN BALE FLIPPING OUT which is admittedly funny but not nearly close to news?

uh no but do you honestly not realize what a large segment of the population these people make up?  just because you attend COLLEGE OF LIBERAL INTELLECTUALS or whatever (this is what i get from many of your posts) does not mean that these people don't exist.  they exist in fucking droves and yeah they care about this shit tons.  also the oscars are worthless and just as bad as the other two in terms of quality/guilt of being all about CELEBS.  whoa nice dres....whjo u wearin @_@.  seriously how can you not know that this is an alarmingly huge segment of american pop culture now?  it's not just some minor thing because you don't know anyone who does it!

there wouldn't have been ridiculous amounts of 'is he gonna get an oscar??' buzz
