"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may (wont) fix this problem"

This is the message I'm greeted with when trying to run a mounted ISO. After trying two different mounting programs, I've decided to come here for help.

This is kind of a problem that can encircle many programs; so I've had no results with the obligatory google search; so any type of insight as to what I can do to fix this would be appreciated.

What is the format and what programs have you used. Sometimes they work best in a specific program, or even version.

It's missing essential DLLs or configuration code and isn't clever enough to fix this on its own.  Did you use any System Restore points lately?

This is a frequent error when you do not have the correct runtime libraries installed.

Here is a link for the 2005 Redist Package.  If that doesn't work that same link has a section called "What others are downloading" which contains links to other Redist packages to try.

This may not solve your problem, because as Dada said, it can be any missing DLL that causes this, but from my experience it is often most likely the redist package that needs to be installed.

First I tried using MagicISO, that didn't work; so I uninstalled and tried alcohol 120%, that did the same thing. Suspecting something I did may have caused this; I used a restore point that was made two days ago. Same thing.

Well, this has been a strange little episode. At random I decided to try to load the ISO; and it worked... Even though I did nothing to fix the issue.
