What marcus didn't mention in the OP (I think) and really, REALLY should've is that you can download the full game. For free.

http://www.taleworlds.net/mb_download.html

Basically you're limited to level 7 (of 50, but realistically you won't hit higher than 40-45), and that's it. All the game files are there, nothing is 'locked away', etc etc. If you're not sure, just download it and give it a go! A LOT has changed since the early version (except the combat, of course. Which is as great as always), and if you enjoy it you've just gotta send 'em some money and unlock it, which takes about 5 minutes.

well, didn't know about that.  if anything being able to play the full game for a limited of time should be a big motivator!

Weeelp. I have been playing 0.960, I think. Upgraded to the latest version and the interface is so much uglier. :(

Graphics aren't everything but damn it's SO MUCH uglier it's really, really off putting. Also as I thought I'm kinda struggling to get back into it. The 'intro' is a bit dull until you get some troops going, so gotta brave the storm and the endless looters...

I bought this for $9 or something when the game was half finished.  It's okay but dude . . . I think you're giving the game too much credit.

Also you did not mention this is an indie game with a staff of two people and no budget!

I don't think anyone cares! That doesn't change the game at all.

In 2007 they started a company so it's now a company of 6 people!

Also the game is published and iirc on sale in shops? It's not exactly indie any more by any definition really.

Sorry, I'm going to necro this thread with a tidbit not all may know about. Steam is selling this game this weekend only for 75% off.

I myself am going to give this game a look and probably buy it after I try the trial version.

...Ah screw it, I'll just get it. 7.50 isn't that much; far less than what I wasted on that PoS logitech G13.

thanks for the heads up! I was interested in this game for awhile but never bothered actually getting it, but 8 bucks is way too good to pass up!

This really is a nifty game, ESPECIALLY at 8 bucks. The basic vanilla game is very playable and interesting, but there really are a ton of cool mods that simulate all kinds of different periods in history.

Yeah the game is clearly low budget, but it's also pretty polished, and while I do find the UI to be SIMPLISTIC, it's not overly ugly or bad. It just looks, you know, LOW BUDGET.

I am just addicted to this game. Last night I fired the game up at midnight, next thing I know its 3 in the morning (and I had work the next day >.>)

It has kind of an Oregon trail feel to it... Except it's actually fun.

Yeah I had this EPIC ADVENTURE earlier where I lead my small band of 25 men against a village in the Khergit Khanate (I was enlisted as a Mercenary in armies of Swadia), and because of some really stupid tactical decisions (and because I was utterly outnumbered) I got crushed. I then went about the land trying to raze another small army, and lead a second attack. This time, I had my men hold ground in a narrow chokepoint between some hills and fences, which funneled the enemy and prevented all 50-60 of them from surrounding and beating the shit out of me. Victory was mine! Definitely a very neat little game. It's got its FLAWS, like half the quests you get are DELIVER THIS LETTER TO THIS PERSON, and combat on the open field is sometimes little more than chaos, and the actual combat system feels really clumsy sometimes (but maybe this is a realism thing??), but it's still really fun.

no they're still the same.

the siege battles aren't exactly difficult you just storm the castle walls whoever kills everyone first wins.

the only thing i don't care for are the sudden reinforcements which is caused by the caps on how many troops you can have onscreen.  it's pretty jarring to slay everyone in the courtyard and then suddenly 50 guys spring up out of thin air.

After playing Warhammer Online, this game's sieges are a step above my previous experience (as astonishing as it may be to some). It could use a little more though. Like maybe scaling walls and some deeper strategy. Also, some ui tweaks would be just fantastic. Being able to see your force's current status (killed / wounded) should really be a given.
