Just reading his comments proves that the guy is insane.  He spouts out 20$ words to make himself appear more intelligent and the idea of "mass extinction" through a recession is laughably exaggerated.  Talk about hyperbole.

the US has enough stored food to feed the entire population (rationed out) for something like 2 years.  if every animal's meat suddenly became poisonous and the soil magically dried up we'd be able to feed ourselves for a long time.

that is, as long as we take strides to keep them mexicans out.  i bet if you separate all them illegals from the pure blooded amerikans we'd only have a population of 100,000,000 or so.

Extinction hmmm I don't think so althought it has caused the extinction of several species the thing is it's just not  very sustainable and generates too much waste. You know how some countries like Japan don't have enough room for landfills and they just ship their garbage to Africa?

I see how his story would explain a collapse of our economy or even destruction of civilisation, but not an actual extinction. Also a major flaw is, you can almost never make any predictions in economics. You can only observe the past and explain it and analyze it. But as soon as you try to extrapolate it to the future it crumbles.

Its pretty easy to try to extrapolate like that, look ill do it too: if food becomes scarce that means food becomes more valuable, which means more industries will develop in food production and with more industries and more competition it means food production technologies will improve drastically as each company tries to outgrow its competitors and will create more effective OGM shit that can feed more people for cheaper.

yeah, i think this guy is pretty dramatic. he has some intelligent things to say, and ideas to consider (how it seems unlikely that we will miraculously recover from a service economy WITH a service economy), but i really think he is stretching this pretty far. this is pretty much the ultimate pessimist.
