Imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970416/
Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_the_Earth_Stood_Still_(2008_film)

Cast:

Plot Synopsis:

A representative of an alien race that went through drastic evolution to survive its own climate change, Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) comes to Earth to assess whether humanity can prevent the environmental damage they have inflicted on their own planet. Klaatu himself already has a negative opinion of humans, and when barred from speaking to the United Nations, he decides they shall be exterminated so the planet – with its rare ability to sustain complex life – can survive. It is up to Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) and her stepson Jacob (Jaden Smith) to convince Klaatu humans are worth saving: but it may already be too late.

-----------------

Just another CGI pumped floppy rendition, or something worth seeing? I'm really really skeptical on this although I don't think I've ever seen the original. This seems to be flying pretty low under the radar and I've only recently begun seeing previews for it.

This looks like it could be a great movie, can anyone tell me if the original is worth watching or will it just spoil the new one?

oh well I remember watching a teaser or something quite some time ago for this one and thinking it's probably not gonna be worth watching...

Looks like it's going to be nothing but special effects, especially since the dialogue is like this (don't have the exact quote but it still makes my point):

"THIS IS OUR PLANET!!!!"
"No. It is not."

A++++++ great dialogue guys :welp:

I can't wait to see this.

I have always had a soft spot for special effects galore-type films. The Day After Tomorrow was an absolute gem for me.

the funny part is with a better actor the first one would say that line and the second would just look and smile and it would be a bit creepier but keanu is so bad at emotion I'm sure they had to add this line.

i don't think thats true because the character is SUPPOSED to be wooden. its the perfect role for him

even then how about just *cocks head to side, looks clearly puzzled*

spock did this, basically it's such a hilarious line cooked up because obviously 1. soundbite 2. keanu wouldn't be able to convey confusion or arrogance without it.

Seconded.

Also, I clearly don't care about cheesyness. I'm going to see this film, and I'm probably going to like it.
Just like cloverfield. Just like every other movie that is not a parody.

for clarification, the highest point for fuel to freeze is -47 degrees C.

human blood freezes at -.52 degrees C. that's .52, not 52.

god this is even a minor complaint, we're talking about a movie where apparently the earth just creates storms to recreate an ice age for no reason other than some vaguely defined global warming which a dick cheney lookalike scoffs at, you should all be fucking ashamed of yourselves for eating horseshit, since Roman might still be on break I'm gonna take the opportunity to tell you you suck at watching movies.

I loved the day after tommorow, I dont pay that much attention to the specific details.. As long as it looks good and the story is sound enough for me then its all good.

Pidgeotto I bet your the type who watches a Superman movie and concludes that a body with . . . a surface gravity of 10,000 in/sec squared would have a mass of 6 x 1033kg ..., which would be 3,000 times the mass of the sun... My best friend is exactly the same, he cant enjoy a movie for what it is.. cant watch sci-fi around him otherwise he wont shutup about all the scientific errors lol

Not having a go at you, I just find it funny.
