no, the fact we're both dead and he's still around bitching about genres no one could care about and thinking music discussion is invalid despite both of us and his hero Frank Zappa dedicating our lives to blurring the lines between genres and to discussing the reasons behind music rather than just banal "I like it" excuses.

Hey steel what happened to 100 albums you should listen to?

I might just post the list with a sentence or two about each album. I could write it but it would get boring; there's only so many ways to say THIS ALBUM RULES!

no way is this legit.

how about this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qZr1uHiwsY

or TOO DRUNK TO FUCK or SONGS ABOUT FUCKING or F.O.A.D. or QUANTUM FUCKING or bands like Holy Fuck or Fuck Buttons or Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Motherfucker=Redeemer (good job me pulling all these from memory) or numerous bands that *gasp* swear. come on you aren't a 60 year old gramma who stubs her toe and says OHHHH SUGAR!, you can't really expect me to believe swearing makes lyrics unlikeable.

you can say TOO AGGRESSIVE maybe (I'd still have a problem with that though) but swearing, really?

yeah, some music i listen to is aggressive, so its not that. and yeah, the dead kennedys swear, but not a LOT. Holy fuck is awesome, but i don't think they even have lyrics in their song.

I looked up tupac lyrics and probably half lf the titles alone had 'fuck' in them. i don't think swearing is realy necessary in music.. i'll tolerate the odd swear in respect to the whole "swearing is a way of expression an emotion" type of idea, but when there's too much of it, i find that meaning is lost and it's just annoying.

don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with swearing now and then, i just don't need to hear excessive amounts in the music i listen to.

well yourhero, if you disliked swearing in any context then you'd have a consistent point (a pretty silly one i think though), but since you can tolerate it in certain places then i don't think it's the swearing but the context of it that you don't like. i mean in tupac was rapping about pretty things then it'd maybe be out of place but usually he was rapping about the rough business so it's just the vocabulary that was appropriate to use. it's probably a part of the whole parcel and not just something that gets in the way cos the guy can't keep a lid on the gutter talk.

you seem pretty harmless so i'm not accusing you of anything and maybe it's just prudishness but maybe...maybe...gta: sa was just too frickin black for you?

isn't saying i have to dislike all of it, or else accept as much as possible a bit of an extremist view?

Try to find Cherry Five.
They just made one album before changing their name to Goblin, but they also changed their direction a lot when they did. Cherry five had a super unique sound, and then as Goblin they started to sound a little too much like some Italian clone of Genesis. The first song of the album is one of my big favorite tracks, "Country Graveyard". It might be a little hard to find though.

Thanks, guys. I like Oceansize, Riverside, 3 and Pure Reason Revolution, and I'm downloading that free album DS recommended. I'll see if I can get a hold of the Genesis album, as well, I've had that recommended to me by various other people.

Rush? I know it's pretty popular but in the event you hadn't looked into them at all. You should also check out Serj Tankian's album Elect the Dead because it's pretty good.

Yeah Rush really gets that ugh reaction from people. especially if they actually are familiar with Rush up close and personal (I once attended a 4 hour Rush concert for free. It was an eye-opening experience as to what kind of people regularly turn out for those types of concerts and yeah overall just kinda woah)
