I don't usually post stuff found on the web, but hey- if you ever thought one of your term papers was bad, you'll feel much better after reading this. (Some parts are really pushing it, but hey!)

Anyway, in light of spicing up the topic- what are some of your funny essay/term paper stories? Desperate, last minute ones? Or anything just out of the ordinary?

My worst essay on an exam was probably when my teacher knowingly said to the class as they were leaving (the day before) to "make sure to study Bach!" When we got to the exam, the essay was about Handel. The only thing I could remember was that Handel wrote The Messiah, and that he went blind in a carriage accident. So I wrote my whole essay on how going blind in a carriage accident inspired Handel to write the Messiah. I did better than my friend, though- who just drew a picture of Handel on a bicycle because she couldn't remember anything at all.

Hm...didn't know it was old. Thought I'd share it so other people who are in exams can maybe have a laugh. Sorry you guys are so offended. (Also, yes, I Know it's a joke...but thank you for pointing that out...)

I say we should talk about our worst papers or tests or midterms ever

A few weeks ago I had a linear algebra midterm that i totally left thinking "MAN I AT LEAST GOT A 70 I DID MODERATLY WELL ENOUGH TO BE JUST ABOVE GOVERNMENT STANDARD"

i got a 52 :(.....

then 2 weeks ago I had my second linear algebra midterm and left it thinking "MAN IM SO AWESOME I JUST GOT A 90 TOTALLY ON THAT MIDTERM"

i got it back a few days ago and I got a 75%...(the trend is i get whatever i thought i got minus 20%)

Well...I posted a lot of posts in the last half hour because I'm taking a break from studying, and my mind is bursting with Ignatieff and Adorno. Honestly, though, my topics were: philosophical films, nostalgic gaming cartoons, and an article/tutorial I'd written (and spent a lot of time on). So I'm not sure why you think those are bad? Unless you mean they're things you're not interested in, in which case that's your own opinion and you have no obligation to reply.

edit: (re: your edit) Sorry, I've been lurking here a while, but I haven't really been active until recently and I'm still confused by some of the forums here. If there's a more appropriate forum then I don't mind if a mod moves the topic :).

I once took a Biochemistry in-course in my first year in university. There were supposed to be four in-courses constituting 40% of the final grade, 10% each. The lecturer was a very mean and disgusting man named Cockburn. He said he would be giving back the papers and calling out the mark when handing them out. I wasn't getting more than 1% seriously, maybe 0%. I didn't study at all or go any lectures.

So I skipped the next week of class. I went to the following week. He hadn't corrected the papers yet so I skipped that week. I missed a notice for the next in-course and did badly in that too (maybe 2%). Didn't want to get my paper back or get called out. So I just didn't go to class. And I said fuck it and didn't go for the final either. I passed the course the following year, though. They replaced Cockburn.

Ha! Reading that I actually thought someone did go that far in stupidity.

Well, my worst paper regrettably was something I took LOTS of time writing. My teacher loves my writing and I always score 96 or above, nothing less. That was until I did a paper I took my dear sweet time on. It was about the different types of art methods and we had to cite artists and all that, I ended p with a 60 something on it and everyone was surprised which made me feel even worse. What was even more awful was that I had all the blueprints to the answer sitting in front of my face when I wrote it so all the content of the paper's terms where there for me to use... but somehow the professor didn't like it, she even wrote "what happened!?" at the top of my paper T.T;;;

But yeah, that was by far the worst and the most work I put in a paper...irony?

Also I got a big Spanish exam at 8:00 a.m but I have little willpower to study it, I'll probably do fair but spanish is so boring to me :/

I wish my worst was 60something. I hate when people say they did so awful on an exam and then it's like... 60something or 70. What a gyp.

One time a history teacher had us write an essay or something about what changed before and after military dictatorship and alienation amongst the youth and I wrote something really stupid (but true) like "I don't know because I wasn't alive at the time and those old men just like predending they have power but nothing changes" and drew swastikas and jew stars and money signs and communist signs on it and then he commented how there were childish people who drew crap on it (he didn't cite my name but I knew it was me he was talking about).

Oh yes and earlier today my mom was complaining about people who try to kill themselves by taking a lot of pills (because a girl tried to do that) and how that makes her angry (she's a nurse by the way) and how eating caustic soda doesn't kill you it just gives you esophageal stenosis and you won't be able to eat and will have to ingest food parenterally instead etc. So don't do that guys you're better off jumping in the front of a train.

Its quite a while ago, in a written programming exam, at one part we had to write down some code. A friend of mine just didn't want to bother with it and instead he drew an elephant. The teacher put a big question mark next to it, in red ink. He uses a scan of this as a MSN messenger display picture to this day....

Worst I got was a 50. In 10th grade we had to write about what kind of food America was and explain why/ explain what the ingredients represented. I couldn't think of a food, so I said America was like a blender, and that different races were different foods and they got blended together.

maybe 'cause those are bad marks? i know for example in my program you need to maintain at least a 75% average or else you're kicked out/downgraded to a shit program. for me, that's the verge of passing. and if you want to go to a professional/graduate school afterwards, you need good marks.
