By Strangeluv's description it sounds like he was experiencing a lack of humidity in America.

outside temperature here doesn't surpass 35°C at the worst of times (and rarely above 30 even), so it's not really a problem.
Ever since I moved downstairs, I've never had problems with the heat. When I was in my old room upstairs with my computer and all that it did get pretty unbearable sometimes, but it's great now.

Which is why my house is going to be either completely underground or at least earth sheltered when I build it
What are you going to do in the winter, Mince Wobley?

Actually, underground homes are cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The earth retains and releases heat during the winter.

As one fellow Aussie to another - I understand completely. Where I am is currently going through a cold patch (Thank God!) but it won't be long before the heat reaches the high thirties/low forties mark again. And I am not looking forward to it.

Hence the reason why I am investing in a window AC as soon as possible. For the moment, though - thanks to Christmas and lack of funds (Thanks a lot Christmas) - I'm making do with a stand fan and trips to the shower every time I dry out. Doesn't help that we're going through a drought and have water restrictions, either.

Might I suggest getting some dark rubber-back curtains to block out all the light, a stand fan with an ice-cold bucket of water beneath it so that as it evaporates it gets blown around the room and wet towels?

Grab one of those long ice-packs (the blue ones) and wrap it in a towel, then drape over unexposed areas of your computer.

Wet a face washer,  chuck it in the freezer for a while, then drape it over the back of your fan. Also, wash the fan blades (disassembly required) so that there's no dust on them.

Just a few suggestions. Good luck!

We have barbeques and swimming. It's actually rather fun despite the over-bearing heat. Couldn't imagine a cold Christmas. It'd be like a cat with no meow, a dog with no bark, a skunk with no smell...
Besides we have some pretty awesome carols to go with the heat. ^.^

I'm in northwest Florida, and I think we're expecting 74 degree highs for the next few days.  What the fuck!

at least you have snow, rather than 12 months of miserable rain a year!
In Vancouver we have snow for about 2 days and then it's really cold instead.

I would not class Six White Boomers and the australian version of Jingle Bells as awesome christmas carols...
They are embarrassing, I hate aussie pride.

southeast USA has some weird temps. Last year we only had like maybe a couple of really cold weeks during winter, but mostly it was 50~ degrees and sometimes 60-70 degrees. It's like 60 degrees here now.

Those, I wasn't talking about. ^.^; Sure we got some lame ones, but there are some that are pretty good (and catchy).

As for Aussie pride? Bite me. ^.~

Man, I would prefer heat over this blistering cold any day. It was -36 degrees C yesterday, -48 with wind chill... It is just ridicoulous how cold it is.

To be fair though, I dont know what unberable heat feels like, but I know I would prefer a Canadian Summer over a Canadian Winter.

I think that blistering cold is easier to take care of than blistering heat; all you need to do is stay inside and bundle up. It costs less than having to pay for AC. Then again, to be fair, I've never actually had BLISTERING COLD or HEAT at all, seeing as how SoCal is pretty mundane in its weather patterns. SUN SUN SUN CLOUDS SPRINKLE SUN. I know I wouldn't survive New York. My hands absolutely freeze up -- I can't even type when it's like 60 degrees F. Sad! Yet I'm applying there...
