Ramci make a folk mixtape. Please
A1. Even if i do have some folk, i'm mostly about folk-rock... well, SORT of folk-rock.  :fogetshrug: I don't have any classics like Dylan, Cohen, Pentangle, Fairport Convention, just some obscure ones.

A2. I'm pretty sure everybody here have heard Elliott Smith and Nick Drake sooooooooo

B. Not sure if i got enough material for this! I'm a very song-centered guy. I could name many good songs from one artist and then just one song from another one, so i have a huge temptation to add several songs from one artist. Maybe i can work this out somehow!

C. Seriously, sometimes the album version sucks compared to the live version / the live versions rule over the studio albums so uhh what am i gonna do? Like, i may have to rip songs from youtube, how do you guys feel about that?!?!?

Edit Nah, i'm pretty sure it's not going to work, especially since whole lot of my favourite songs are from youtube + inconsistent taste so w/e

yeah i know i have but i was disappointed when nothing came of it again so i thought maybe people listening to mixtape full of them would fuel discussion and i could finally....shoot the shit about ymg....

also because i wanted it to be more INDICATIVE OF PANDA'S TASTE and less AMASING SHIT YOUVE NEVER HEARD OF so i went with stuff i liked most instead of stuff i'd never mentioned and was almost positive no one on gw knew.  plus i mean how many people read those series of argument posts i made in your ALBUMS GW DOESNT KNOW topic and went and checked out the shit i told you to write about?

Here’s a dance-punk mixtape I made, since I always meant to make a topic about this stuff but never got around to it. I’m terrible at sequencing or whatever but I think most of it is pretty solid: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MWTFVZ3H

1. Ufo - ESG
2. French Boy - Garcons
3. Tumour - Lizzy Mercier Descloux
4. Black Box Disco - Vortex OST
5. For The Love Of Money - Defunkt
6. Cowboys & Gangsters - Gichi Dan
7. Optimo - Liquid Liquid
8. Bustin’ Out - Material
9. The World Is Empty - The Del-Byzanteens
10. Flip Your Face - The Contortions
11. Things Fall Apart - Cristina
12. Can’t Be Funky - Bush Tetras
13. To Hell With Poverty - Gang Of Four
14. Ungawa Pt. 2 - Pulsallama
15. Contort Yourself - James White and the Blacks
16. Christmas On Riverside Drive - August Darnell
17. What’s A Girl To Do - Cristina

I downloaded the mixtapes but haven't listened to them let, they look good though since I have been wanting to get into different styles for a while now but don't really know where to begin when it comes to stuff like hiphop or whatever.

Yeah, I think a good few of the dance-punk guys ended up being sampled in hip-hop and electro records, like ESG especially were sampled by Wu-Tang Clan and like a dozen other bands. I read that one of the reasons Liquid Liquid broke up was because they lost a lawsuit over Grandmaster Flash sampling that song, although I'm not sure of the details. From what I've heard the two genres are kinda similar in a lot of ways but there isn't much good feeling between them!

Also just throwing this out there but the Cristina album Sleep It Off is really good. It's weird because it's like every terrible new-wave dance band rolled into one and then stepped on or something, so it sounds like a really warped and hateful parody of new-wave or something, or maybe like those shitty albums of childrens music except really disjointed and gross. Like they do a version of a Kurt Weill song off the Threepenny Opera, and on one level it's exactly as bad as you'd expect a synth-and-drum-machine 80's cover of an opera song would sound, but on another level it's so over the top that it's almost grotesque and actually comes off as better than the original. It's one of the most disgusted sounding albums I've ever heard, I think. This doesn't really have anything do do with anything, but I was just listening to it and it really is so strange sounding. Maybe it's just me, though.

Early C. Chips' Wave Compilation!!
Contains: Minimal Wave, Coldwave, French and German New Wave, a little: Darkwave, Postwave, Alternative Wave.

I ended up cutting a lot of good songs because they were too upbeat/poppy/complex for this compilation, and because I didn't want to have 4 or 5 Ruth songs on something that's supposed to be a mixtape. since I asked for some waves in the zoo and no one could help me I'm assuming no one has ever heard these songs:
http://www.gazup.com/sEl2B-wave_mixape.rar-download-mirrors

1. Ruth - Polaroid/Roman/Photo
2. Adolph Filter - 1982
3. Antifamily - Law of the Plainsmen
4. Antifamily - the Shaft
5. G.K. Agenda - Enyholes
6. Ruth - Misty Mouse
7. Transparent Allusion - We
8. The Droids - the Force
9. Section 25 - Looking from a Hilltop
10. Deine Lakaien - Love Will Not Die
11. Trisomie 21 - the Last Song
12. Bruce Springsteen - I'm on Fire

It's a combination of wave shit from the 80s to the present. Coldwave might be a new term; it refers to the french minimalist new wave and post-punk of the 80s. some of it I really like, others I don't particularly enjoy but I thought I should include them just to show the scope of all the minimal synth shit that has been forgotten over the years. and yes that is a Butch Springsteen song at the end!! I didn't say anything when yall were dissin him but I really like that song. it stands out from his other work, even stuff from the same album (eg Dancing in the Dark) so take a listen...you might be pleasantly surprised :fogetwink:

now I will listen to your mixtapes
