Yes it is the time of year for these crappy beginning/end of year lists. I divided my list into how good I thought the albums would be because then you aren't just reading a boring list but my opinion on the albums also. Try to do the same or I'll give you a warning because I don't want to read BULLETPOINTS OF NAMEDROPPING.

Really Looking Forward to in 2009

New Ghostface (duh), I think this will be very good for obvious reasons.

MF Doom and Ghostface project: See above.

Outkast: One of the best groups ever and they have been around for a very long time but always dropping consistent albums.

The Ecstatic-Mos Def: Have you listened to his album with Talib Kweli?? Its seriously one of the best albums of all time.

Eros-Deftones: I'm going through a phase where all I listen to is the Deftones at the moment.

Kinda looking forward to in 2008

Raekwon- Only Built for Cuban Linx 2: Well it has had about a million different release dates and has been constantly pushed back so I think the time for this album to shine has passed (it would probably have done really well in 2006 when it was gathering HEAPS of interest) but now days I think it won't sell very well and probably won't be that great. (I'd love it if it was but yeah).

Dr Dre- Detox: see above

New Between the Buried and Me: Colors was very good!!!

Cappadonna - Slang Prostitution (Chamber Muzik)- He's a Wu affiliate so I'm a little interested.

Uni5-Bone Thugs-n-Harmony: They haven't released a good album in nearly a decade and they sold out pretty hard on their latest but with Flesh out of jail hopefully they can come back with some passion.

The Blueprint 3- Jay-Z: It will probably be a decent album.

D'Angelo, Ginuwine and MJ as well. Although MJ will probably never come out.

Mastodon-Crack the Skye

might download

Eminem-Relapse: He's an annoying brat and this will probably be not very good since it was many years since he had stuff to talk about.

Untitled by Dredg: Wasn't too impressed with their leaked track.

I rushed this towards the end as I'm going out soon but yeah you get the point so your turn! I'll post more if I remember them because I know already I forgot heaps!

Like you said, Cuban Linx 2. I'm hoping it lives up to all of Rae's hype but it's been a long time coming, which is sometimes a sign.

I also want Mondo Cane, a Mike Patton project. He's covering a bunch of 50s and 60s Italian pop songs. Supposed to come out last year but now it's early 09... hopefully.

I don't think I'm awaiting anything with bated breath or whatever, but:
New Sonic Youth album! Their last one was really good and they're always pretty consistent anyway so yeah, I'm looking forward to this.
Flipper are releasing a new album too. I'm alternately looking forward to this and dreading it but since their entire sound is based on being as sloppy and ugly as possible it's not really something that'd be easy to fuck up! Also the bassist for Nirvana has joined the group, which is cool.

Also Richard Hell is working on a new album! http://www.richardhell.com/cgi-bin/forum/showmessage.asp?messageID=8761:

Also, believe it or not, I’m in the studio. It’s an intense project that we’ll get to describing here soon, but I’m loving it, and it includes the guitar players Marc Ribot, Bill Frisell, and Ivan Julian, and my singing and writing, and will result in an album.
So yeah, Richard Hell rules and I am really looking forward to this! Ivan Julian was an original Voidoid and the other two guys are apparantly seminal noise/jazz guitarists so I'm interested in finding out what it sounds like.

well theres plenty too lazy to think of everything but at least um

porcupine tree - well my favorite band so no surprises here. it's supposed to come out in september and after foabp steven wilson said he thinks their next album is going to be quite different so i'm excited for whatever style they are going to go with this time. they have already said it's less metal and got more of a classic rock sound to it but there have also been rumors that it's going to be more electronica/industrial influenced and that suits me very well.

dredg - one of my favorite bands and i have been looking forward to their new album for ages. the leaked track was pretty mediocre but i have a feeling it's some b-side anyway. it got its moments but overall it wasn't very good. but the live songs i have heard were good and so far dredg hasn't released anything bad so no reason to not look forward to it.

pure reason revolution - another album which was supposed to come out in 2007 like dredg. it's also coming out in march and based on what i have heard so far, this is going to be less alternative/prog and more electronica but we'll see.

anathema - their new album was announced in 2006 or something and it has been coming for a long time. at one point it was supposed to be a double album but it ended up being single cd which is completely fine with me because i'm expecting a really cohesive album. steven wilson (who is producing their album) said it's really good and their best album yet and i love the direction anathema have taken and the three songs they have released since their last album are all great so i'm really excited for this.

mastodon - haven't listened to mastodon in ages but they are p.cool so we'll see if their new album lives up to leviathan and blood mountain or not.

ephel duath - not completely convinced with their new songs on myspace but at least it's going to be very different from their previous albums, definitely sounds way less heavier than pain necessary to know or painter's palette. but even though i'm not convinced with their new material yet, it might just take time to grow on me and the whole album could still be as phenomenal as painter's palette which is pretty much one of the best metal albums ever.

john frusciante - everyone on gw knows john frusciante and that he has a new album coming plus there's a topic on his new album so <blank>.

balmorhea - balmorhea makes really good and relaxing music. i don't really know anything about their new album but if it's anything like rivers arms, i won't be disappointed. this is for anyone who likes chillaxing piano tunes.

the appleseed cast - again i don't really know anything about their new album but appleseed cast are definitely one of my favorite indie groups. i like their album peregrine (released in 2006) but i'm still hoping for something in vein of their older material or then something completely new.

kiss kiss - this band is probably the closest you'll get to avant-garde indie or whatever. it's cool.

cursive - all i know is that they have an album coming out in 2009 and it's called mama, i'm swollen. i haven't listened to cursive in some while but i'm still interested in hearing this.

tenhi - new album by this finnish folk band, though far from your traditional folk band. all their albums rock so this one should too.

the dear hunter - indieprogs???

devin townsend - not sure when his new album is coming out but it should be sometime in 2009. apparently it's going to be a mix of lots of different styles (at least metal and ambient) and it sounds pretty swell.

orphaned land - this album was supposed to be released in 2005/2006 or something. apparently it's coming out in summer.

and i didn't know about new sonic youth!

anyway i haven't really looked too much into 2009 releases yet so im sure there will be more good albums coming out.

edit: woah new between the buried and me?? didn't know about that either.

Gong are doing a new studio album (with Steve Hillage back on guitar duties) which I'm naturally excited about. Also the promise of Invisible opera company of tibet's album, and the usul Daevid Allen BananamoonObscura projects.
Also the second Deltron3030 album is rumoured to be out this year.

Actually Afura said Deftones but I missed that too. And I completely forgot about new Mew, that's definitely pretty high on my list. New QOTSA is coo' too. And Deltron 3030, fuck ya if that's true.

New Karnivool album (hopefully), it's been 4(?) years since their last (first) album, and I'm desperately hoping that it's as good, if not better.

After spending several hours terrified that his body had been possessed by a demon, that his next door neighbor was a witch, and that his furniture was threatening him, Dr. Hofmann feared he had become completely insane.

is there a website that we can see which albums are going to come out? wiki only shows the album names so it's difficult to see the artist :(.

the only ones i already knew were sonic youth, which i'm obviously excited about, and animal collective, which i've already heard.
