Stuff

I don't know, I thought the forest theme was okay. Good spooky themes are hard to come by, so I think I'll keep that. I think you're right about Phillips dialogue. I'll shorten that to "It won't be as powerful as my fists!"

I also think you're right about the boss battle length. I've been doing some tweaking of the battle stats recently, and that battle did feel a little long as I played it. One of the things I'm trying to focus on in the battles is how much damage regular attacks are doing, and since I'm working with small stats, it can be kind of tricky to get that right. I think that boss just has a higher defense than what it should be. As far as how the ghoul looks, I can make it taller, and maybe a little more menacing I suppose.

@Killer Wolf: I like the use of resources and your mapping works perfectly in this region. :).

Hmm well I guess we could do the background ourselves, but since the rest of the Everglades is done by chipset it may clash as well. If it's too blurry in the end we may just do this part in chipset as well. We're definitely not doing an all custom game, since that would just be too time consuming. It took us a few months to rework everything up till now, so we won't do it again. Right now the focus lays on finally releasing a demo.

@Nightblade. Yeah I meant you've got some good stuff going on, and I will play it all over again.

Er hmm, well I managed to figure it out.
Youtube kind of screwed the quality a bit, but its not as bad as the last video I put out.

Well, I gave Phantom Legacy another shot a few days ago and I guess I have some comments (point form to make it simpler).

1. The story is intriquing. I played Demon Legacy a few years ago (the Demo, I didn't have the patience to replay the full version, so I never got to see the end of that one).

2. However, at this point Shadar appears to me like a some kind of "I will do whatever I want, and you can't stop me, literally" I guess in my point of view he's some kind of Almighty Deus Ex Machina now (and rather a jerk at it - well, he's the "villain" (in a way)). But I only see portion of the game, so I guess I need to play more to find out (I stopped at necropolis).

3. Mainly because the battle speed. Well... You got the balance (atb fill) well but I am not too fond of those pre-act battle animation. It's... cool, but it gets boring real fast imo (I avoid battle because of that). Kinda kills the battle for me. But this is preference issue.

Others aspects are pretty well done (jumping system), custom obtain item screen, absorb skill etc. So yeah, I will still keep an eye on this one.

whoring out Befuddle Quest 2

This is the second installment of the collaborative community game wherein participants each submitted a map with a puzzle or some other challenge.  There were 13 entries this time around, some of them quite fun.

@Kentona: Reminds me of Chip Challenge, which was one of the first games I beat. Way to keep up with your retrograding nature I like it.

EDIT: Oh ok, I should learn to read things closer. Well, I made them fairly quick; but if you want to avoid battles you can do that too. The game wont penalize you terribly for skipping the skippable battles.

I think he means the animations when casting a spell or skill. If I remember correctly, they stop the progress of the ATB filling up, so it slows down the battles somewhat. You could probably achieve the same effect by cutting the amount of frames by half.

edit: Just checked the video, yeah they stop it from filling up.

Hey Killer Wolf, that was great up until it said CYBER NOIR at which point I thought meh what a cheesy title. You can't really have a genre descripton as the title that sounds silly. Everything else looked boss though.

More people should change their fonts to solid colours because the whole white->cyan gradient text on custom message box backgrounds looks terrible and you can change it so easily.

Killer Wolf, the atmosphere you've created graphically and musically is great. particularly musically! I didn't even realise it was MIDI (?) for a couple of minutes.

Jabas: Looks really good, reminds me of KH. Only thing is I would make the floor slightly lighter, right now its color is too close to the walls which is messing up the contrast.

@Jabas: That's absolutely beautiful, and I agree about making the floor a tad brighter, but not too bright. One thing I'm intrigued about though is where exactly that house is located. My first thought was that it was very high up, but it also looks like it could be in the water. One thing I would change is the supports beams below it though, like instead of them going straight down, add some diagonal ones on the inside of those, otherwise it looks like the whole house could tip over.

Thanks for all coments, guys. I'm thinking of coloring the floor with the same color of the 2000's RTP, because it's a bit brighter than the 2003 version.

Actually is near the water. Down the ladder there will be a dock, a beach in the right side and some houses like this one (later I'm gonna show the full map, I'm finishing yet).

@Skie: How did you get the target skill to attack multiple times while using only the main animation?

@Skie: Looks like its coming together. I suggest opening the box before you say that its empty...The maps a bit bare, however I do realize that this is still in development and not finalized by any means. Perhaps add some variations with in the grass/earth Its odd that their are some random black plates just laying around, perhaps you could make them some rock form as they would fit with the area a bit more. In terms of the boss battle, I really liked it. If you could maybe change the initial monster sprite into something a bit more ferocious than a slime blob, showing how big the creature actually is.

Skie - I think the voices in the music detract a little bit, but that may just be me. The different elevations seem a little tough to judge at this point. In a couple of places it looked like the characters jumped up to a higher level to jump back down to one that they couldn't jump up to from the ground (which didn't make much sense). Other than that stuff, everything looked really good!

Ed - When I started working on the ideas I'm using for this project, I had no title. I named the document file Cyber-Noir. So that's where it came from. I have a couple ideas for possible names if I decide to change it later on.

Rockman - Thanks. The music in the video is a midi. After I finished the scene and hunted up the sound effects, I spent over an hour listening to files, looking for a good fit for that section. I'm glad it came out well.
