Cool screenies again, but it seems the enter sprite has a backwards N. When I looked closer, it was because the shadow seemed backwards, and the lighter part forwards. The same with the INN sprite. You've probably said this already, but what is that being made in, if anything?

Im never finishing this!

Well, it looks nice; but that's about it. Going through those maps with only 4 direction tile based movement is going to be a chore at best.

@skarik: Thanks for the help, I fixed those issues with enter and inn. Also Rpg maker is what I am using.
@Night: I proved that theory wrong with my churel cliffs map if you remember it.

This vids a wip to show some progress. Keep in mind fraps cuts fps by half and also a lot of it is wip.

The game looks really good graphically. But it doesn't look as if it would play that well.

Sanosuke can you make it so the ! and "enter" only appear when you're close to them?
Play Raimond Ex (if you haven't already)

I'll not TAKE ANYTHING you write like this seriously because it looks dumb

@Tomato: Thanks but could you elaborate as to why it wouldn't? Anything I can do with rm2k3 limitations in mind?
@Mince: I could certainly do that, is it a visual issue or just a preference?

Well here's another update...trying to keep things alive here.

-A added a location display
-You can open the menu now
-Text boxes with speech
- music
- ambiance effects
*** This took the longest time to finish: Got the passability fixed for the town.

I just think a game in that style would work better with per pixel movement. The battle system does not seem smooth at all, and suffers from the same choppy game play a lot of custom battle systems have. I feel the same way Nightblade does about navigation. I don't really know what you can do about it though. It's mostly just an issue with RM2k3 I think.

Sano it's good to see that your still making some kick ass maps and all since the last time I have graced this page without seeing the warning message. I must say, it looks great! Everything just looks go...well professional I would say.

After watching your clips, the battle system does look a bit too clunky for my tastes, but since this is a WIP. I will give you a chance and all, looks like it's going to be great. Probably the only issue for me, and it's not really one. It's like...these maps and sprites don't really go together...it's just that sort of feeling. It does look good, so keep on working hard!

Sanosuke: If your battle system has as much latency when you play it as it does in those videos, I'm pretty sure nobody's going to like it. The other limitations like tile based movement aren't that big of a deal - people will put up with them if the design is good - but that huge delay between the animations and things happening is pretty much unforgivable in an action battle system.

You might be better off going with a more simple-to-execute battle system so that you can still deliver a good experience if you insist on using RM2k3. Most people would prefer an unoriginal but well-executed battle system to one that's crippled by lag.

Your avalon town looks pretty nice, but those big flashing talk/enter icons detract from the looks a lot, and so does the overlay. I'd advise eliminating both of them, or at least toning them down.

wilikeh, your battle system looks really cool. You should post more of whatever game that is. Okay, thanks.

Sanosuke, the sound effect you are using is too overbearing. It's not necessary to have it for talking to npc's and it's too much for the menu system. Find something that is easier on the ears.

I have no idea what you're even talking about. Would you care to refresh my memory?

While you're at it, how about you tell us what the exclamation marks are for? Decoration? WoW style quest givers? Solid Snake?

The best lighting / overlay effects are subtle and add to the map rather than it simply overlaying and follow the map as you move around. For an example of lighting down right, check out Velsarbor's Introduction.

Anything I can do with rm2k3 limitations in mind?

I'd like to know how what's showcased in this video is even possible in Rm2k3. Generally, it is thought that RPG maker simply isn't meant for this type of battle system; and while it is difficult to ascertain the limitations and difficulties of this guy's battle system, it certainly looks to fun and functional.

@NightBlade: Everything in that video is a picture. I'm not sure how he limited cliff edges (I'd guess checking x/ys and preventing overlap where the cliffs are, thus the general simple shape of the terrains. It's incredibly good, but it's all done with show picture. I mean, the technical specifications baffle the mind, but it's certainly not unimaginable. I'm sure Vanit could do it!

it definitely looks like a lot of work for each individual map -- something a good system should probably avoid...

and its not without its downfalls, either. notice how there is no map scrolling? everything is limited to one full-screen map at a time. kind of gives me a claustrophobic type feeling :(

How so? Also Sano is this game called Fabled, because although not much of an improvement the name still sounds so much better then that zoon or zoom title you had for it.

Which game are you referring to here, the video I linked, or the Sanosuke's series of screenshots and videos game?

Probably the video you posted Nightblade. While I do agree it is very impressive, I'm pretty sure that deep down someone could do this if they really tried. Kaempfer your probably right. It was done with pictures and animations probably. I do like how the trees fade when the character walks over them. (Pic?)

It's impressive, both Sano and that video. But come on, don't be put down because of these masterpieces. We can do better!
