@andyw: I understand that you are going for super-difficult shmup but that boss really just seems like you'd have to be lucky for him not to kill you (or learn his pattern which is equally annoying). Those little torpedoes he is shooting just seem impossible to dodge in any way.

Yeah, my recent games haven't really been known treat the players very well as far as difficulty... I'll probably have to put something in there like occasional checkpoints of some sort to make sure the game isn't impossible. In this case, I'm actually not really going for a super-difficult shmup yet, because that's just the first boss and I'd like the game to be longer than 30 seconds on average. The pattern for this boss is really simple, and it's not unreasonably hard to stay alive long enough to learn it and kill it if you stay away from its bullets, but be sure that the game isn't for those who can't dodge

See, the rocks I have no problem with since they seem like they can be dodged if you have the reflexes, but for the bosses' torpedo attack it just seems to move so fast that you really have to know where it's going to be fired before it's fired to dodge it. It's not a major gripe since I'm guessing you could still dust the first boss easily, but I can only imagine the later bosses if the first one throws out hot, inescapable death like that every few seconds. I don't mind learning patterns so long as there are checkpoints every once and awhile, though.

edit: I should also point out that the game looks pretty awesome so far!

I sure hope that the character sprite is just temporary? It does not fit in at all with the blown up tiles that you're using.

Well... he's only temporary and I'll be using my Koemushi stuff on those blown-up tilesets. Say, I remember Legion/Max McGee's Iron Gaia 2 where he recycled some RM2K3 tilesets...

I would have to agree dude. that looks pretty horrible. your sprites are usually of a decent quality, but those tiles are pretty bad.

It's a shame real pokemon games invariably look like dog shit for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I still play 'em, but it looks like they're mapped by a 12 year old back in the early days of Rm2k.

You messed up the fence at the top of Hazel Point North map (it's inside out). Pretty great otherwise!
