We made a new title screen today. We're quite happy with it, since it drags out the setting of the game really well. Now we only need to fit in a logo or something, since it's still supposed to be a TITLE screen...



Second we want to show a shot of our CBS. This is the main character Ape, fighting Panda Bob in the middle of the Frog Moor. We're aware of the fact the combination of high and low res resources may look a bit weird, but since the game is full of uncommon weird shit it's already hard enough to find fitting resources.

I don't care about keeping things to myself, I don't even use rpgmaker. I'm just saying I don't get why people don't mind that their games look like exact copies of each other and why this behavior is not only tolerated but actively encouraged.

Honestly, nobody really encourages anyone to use rips. It's tolerated because not everyone can simply make graphics. If anything, original graphics; no matter what quality; get slightly too much praise.

Looking at this thread more, I can't really say encourage, but it's more like an unwritten rule that any rips from any game is fair game. I have no problem with people using rips; but I agree that more effort should be into people's game to make them a little more distinctive from one another...

Lastly Konix, you don't like RPGs; you've made that fact painfully obvious. We're not here to change your opinion; so why exactly do you need to keep reminding us? Personally, I like to judge games on a case by case basis. I like SOME rpgs, but most of them are pretty damn awful... But I guess that's the case with plenty of mediums and genres these days. Like movies, or first person shooters... But I digress; we get it.

I like the HUD, the lighting is a bit strange though in that it doesn't so much illuminate the character as cover him in a blanket or foggy window.

if you post your game here then you give every member on this site the leeway to comment.

simple as that.  gamingw isn't (well, we try) deviantart; we're not going to say "you look good" when there's a splinter in eye.  if there's something a member finds unappealing, chances are it probably is.  if 10 members say the same thing, then you'd be a fool to expect "praise" when you release it to the public and not fix it.

it's pretty easy.  if you "did something for fun" then you wouldn't be posting it on the internet for all to see.  everyone who posts here fishes for opinions; some more loudly than others.  don't keep showing off garbage and then cry when someone tells you to clean up.

working on a platform adventure game... or something.


i know the character sprite completely clashes but right now i have NO IDEA how i'm going to make consistent sprites.  probably will have to draw and paint all of their frames at full size then shrink them down (kind of like how the sprites in RMVX look).

Not trying to be ironic / sarcastic here Marcus, but I just remembered something I meant to comment on, but didn't. The picture's concept is really quite nice; but something about it seems odd and flat, maybe the perspective could use a bit of work here?

it's quite possible the ugly ass sprite but yes it is hard working perspective into a 2-dimensional plane where the only directions are left, right, up, and down.  i should have placed the hand about an inch lower but didn't oh well it's just a concept!

My main concern is the archway.  The map is bound to change, I'm not very fond of it.  Although, any comments would be helpful I'd really like to know what you all think of the archway.

Keep in mind, it's not 100% complete.  It doesn't have a connecting wall piece or a top to it.  So, right now it's just placed over the sand.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and those doors are totally going.

Finally, the four players match!  Also, I change the battle field a bit, hopefully it looks better than the last video :)​  I think I need to do something with the HUD though. Right now they're in the way and you can't really see your characters when you're at the bottom of the screen.

i've seen this happen so many times in the screenshot topic. someone posts a screenshot with some obscure rip and like 3 or 4 people demand to know where it's from so they could insert it into their project as well. why do this? why have chunks of your game look completely identical to a bunch of other people's games?

@Mikemc: Thanks for the comment dude. I know my lightings are a bit off sadly. Should look at
some other projects to work it out properly. could also try to get transparancy of that light
overlay down a bit :fogetmmh:

playing the flute is like 8 frames.  pulling out the flute is another 8 it will take me longer to animate than it will to actually program the game >​
