Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. I'm currently working on the first part of the game, adding new abilities and such. As far as the music goes, the idea is that whoever is leading the party determines the current battle music (excluding boss fights). If you don't like the music, you can swap your party leader. But if enough people hate it, I might change it, but I think it's fun :D (It's from Live A Live for anyone wondering)

Totally one of my favorite battle themes from one of my favorite games. :)

@AgentAshRiot: I love that battle video you made and hope you don't give up and make a demo or something. But for the love of god don't use that music in the battles please.

scerw you thats the battle theme to my life-

and my life is a battle feild...

also I think that having different battle themes for leading characters is a great idea. how many battle themes are there going to be?

I really like the battle system, but that cursor sound makes my ears bleed, especially because you have to navigate through skills and menus and such. Oh, and I hope that is just a test victory message :)

Yay! I know, I love Live A Live; and I love Pogo and his battle theme!

Thanks. I plan to have 6 playable characters, each with their own theme.

Glad you like it! It doesn't seem so bad when playing live, maybe the YouTube video conversion hurts the quality, but I'll play with other sounds and see if there is something less sharp. And yeah, it's completely just a test message XD. I've already changed the game to have victory music, cheering poses for the characters, and a better looking Victory! picture.

I'll do my best to do so  :fogetcry:

I love the shit that Ness cooks up.

@AgentAshRiot I was actually watching that, earlier around midnight when it finally loaded, after you said it was valkyrie profile inspired xD
Is it Turn by Turn and the square things is stamina to allow you to do the other actions? (Wow I can't type today)

Well, there will be a "wait mode" for those who are not action-inclined or don't want to be rushed. But the battles flow all in real-time and the party constantly regenerates those blue squares (stamina.) Each action has a stamina cost indicated with its tool tip and as soon as a character has the stamina required, you can just tap their arrow key (like the playstation buttons for VP).

It's sorta like a real-time VP, but instead of only hitting X or O to attack, you hit X or O then pull up a list of 4 commands that each character can perform.

I know I'm not that great a mapper, but does orange-ish water appeal to anyone else? I love water thats deeply colored of the sort.

And yes blah blah blah overused overlay.

Awesome. I like the different style of the facesets too. It does seem the orangely forest with the block shadows seem abit odd though. But overall,
the tree transparency are nice.

[Screens]

A few things I need to bring up.

1. Are you a fan of Sonata Arctica?
2. A hero traversing a mountainous forest in search of an herb needed for someone's gift, to me, screams "A Home Far Away".
3. The overlay of the smaller screen doesn't seem to make all that much sense, as there doesn't seem to be any trees atop those cliffs. The orange water would look fine if the sun was setting and it's light reflecting off of the water, otherwise it just looks polluted.

I sort of agree myself. I really do like the look of the golden water, the entire scene has a sun-setting quality to it. But if it's not supposed to be dawn/dusk, it looks a little radiated maybe. But I think it looks good as is :)

@IceManual5580: Good looking screenshots! The only thing I see is that in the second shot that tree to the left shouldn't be hanging over the cliff (if it's going to be that huge anyway). It also doesn't make much sense to have that one piece of cliff is 3-4 spots higher and still connecting to the others.

Actually, this sounds like a typical generic herb gather quest used in many, many games. I can promise you that A Home Far Away was not the first to use it.

Some great screens here guys. I'm really digging that battle system!
Sweet online game in alpha.

I assume the water's muddy.
And Ash, I definitely like some of your ideas, especially the "leader music" one. I'd thought of doing something similar once, except there would have been different instrumentation. Same battle theme, different instruments. BTW, if you need more music I've been wandering to find some- I could throw you some links.

Of course it wasn't. How do we know this? Because absolute originality is dead. All I meant was that the first thing that came to my mind was A Home Far Away.

Thanks! Different instrumentation would be pretty awesome, I'd love to see that in a game. Yeah if you have some links I always appreciate new material :D

I think it's an absolute must that every character have their own little music track. Change the instruments and tempo based on what mood you want to convey, but keep the basic melody, changing the key and chords if needed.

The Tetris song can be very somber btw.

Thanks for the criticism. Yes, I love Sonata Artica, I'm glad someone caught the title.
I realized the tree/cliff thing a bit after I posted and i was like "did i really just do that"

To the guy that said the thing about that game by strangeluv,
I generally disliked that game, and if what your getting at is that my game has the same plot/storyflow then you'll be sadly disappointed.
I posted a pic of a character collecting herbs and that means its the same? I'm lovin' your logic! I'm guessing your a democrat, also.

I'm trying to piece together a few more sprites for a simple sideview CBS, once I get damage poses and a few more attacking frames done I'll try and get a video up or some shit.
