i guess it's different here then. we have "suite-style residences" right on campus which are right next to the dorms and that don't require transportation or whatever to get to campus. and it only costs $500 more than a dorm for the whole year, which is a really fucking good deal, seeing as how much money you can save by not buying a mealplan and just living off of smart food!

basically i have just as much fun but am living better. i guess US/UK campuses don't have these.

ps, if you want to have friends who aren't complete losers, yes you will. it's UNIVERSITY. although i do hear of a lot of LAN parties...maybe you will fit in afterall

as far as consoles are concerned, get a PS2 or a Gamecube.

It won't get nicked, there still fun, cheap CHEAP and games are CHEAP and so are controllers etc. An xbox360 is an obvious choice, but they do break and you have to send them off, which is HASSLE.

People will love you if you have a working Super Smash Brothers Melee and 4 controllers.

hey people if you are so sure he's going to drink/do drugs and dont get me wrong i'm sure he is too but maybe egging him from a somewhat immature perspective of anti-drinking into potentially sheltering himself from drinking entirely regardless of who offers it to him is not the best idea. it won't take him long to realize never is a long time indeed but until then you aren't gaining fuckall by trying to tell him DRUGE IS FUN.

My only advice is don't be a chaff.

A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

also: locking yourself in the room and playing video games is a VERY BAD IDEA. don't play video games at ALL the first two weeks you are there at least; try to not do it for at least a month. you should be spending ALL of the time you would be otherwise using playing games meeting people and generating new friends. the first month of classes is a joke so do your best to ignore the initial readings and socialize. remember, this is the most interesting time of your most interesting year in college!! do not miss out!!

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

Im going to stop listening to the topic and I'll report it. It's becoming flame material. In the end, I can't drink or do drugs. Parents want the best for me and I understand. It may be different for you but for me, drugs and alcohol are a no go. Sorry.
