Its out now, Just played it and didn't see a topic about it.

Besides the demo being a bit short for the gig and a bit download,
Anyone else played this?

I like the cover system and think its the first game that actually has a first person cover system.
Although it looks pretty, I don't see much really special or mind blowing about the game though, A genericish first person shooter set in industrial and ruined buildings like the first. I might wait until some full reviews come in before running out and buying it. I was a fan of the first but would rather wait abit before spending $120 (AUD) on another game that could be ridiculously short

I think Gametrailers usually has the best reviews. Killzone 2 looks really good but I haven't tried the demo yet. I might even buy it if it's good enough although I'm not really into console FPSes and apparently it doesn't support keyboard and mouse.

Expectations on Killzone 2 had reached ridiculous proportions; here's one of those cases where the game actually lived up to them.
Oh god I hope so. I wasn't really excited for Killzone 2 because the first one wasn't all that good but hey. I'll probably look around a bit more but this looks promising.

I hope Killzone 2 has finally reached the 'Halo killer' title it was aiming for. Then again that isn't hard, since Halo 3 was terrible... but I didn't really like the first Killzone, but I think I'll like the second one.

It's PS3 exclusive. It's made by Sony dude.

Anyway, I played the demo (and yes it's free here in Europe) and it was really good. It's really nothing new but it's just really intense and cool, you feel like you are in this massive warzone and the graphics, effects and amtosphere are fantastic. The cover system is pretty cool and even the demo made it clear that you won't survive long if you don't play carefully enough.

i wasn't a fan of the review on 1up.
I don't like reviews that just say positives about a game, it just feels like they are lying or suger coating the whole thing. or that they didn't play it the whole way.
If they pointed out "Yeah environments looked pretty, if you like concrete" or something like that it would put me at ease abit. because i notice when i first play a game, it is the most fantastic thing in the world, then i finish it and a week later i'll start thinking about the bugs.

That said i gave it another run through last night using just the pistol. and looking for guns that i hadn't seen yet.
So far the weapons i found in the demo were
-human revolver,
-human assault rifle
-human rocket launcher
-gasmask dude assault rifle
-gasmask dude semi auto rifle

i played the demo about 5 times last night... it's actually amazing. just a word of advice to make the game seem even more cinematic and MINDBLOWING, turn off the HUD... it then becomes UBER sexy.

Killzone 2 is fun, but other than flashy graphics and amazing multiplayer(according to critics, I didn't play multiplayer let alone know if multiplayer is in the demo, i played the demo at a friends house) there is nothing too special about it. My main problem I found was that the standard ISA assult rifle was too powerful as I didn't want too put it down and experiment with other weapons. I am all for the "1 main weapon=experiment" theory, but when the standard gun is one of the most powerful guns in the game, something is wrong.

In my opinion, it's a bridge between Call of Duty 4/5 and Gears of War. Very entertaining and the best visuals I have seen. I guess you could only call this a Halo-killer if a) the multiplayer was more fun and b) the single player campaign is more engaging.

b) shouldn't be that hard for them to beat considering Halo 3 sp bored the pants off me

a) is pretty much impossible with the Ps3's operating system since it is just nowhere near as streamlined as the 360.

There were some very neat features:
- The enemies don't just sit behind cover and fire at you (see gears/cod4), they actually advance on you and force you to take action.
- Your allies are a lot more useful than your generic fps, i.e. at one stage in the demo you get a leg-up onto a ledge then you lift the guy up so there's a lot more engaging interaction.
- Particles, explosions, colours are all very vivid.

Hang-ups:
- The controls are very smooth, don't get me wrong but the ps3 analogue sticks are not as smooth as the 360 in this. You get used to it after a while but they seem to need to be moved to a greater angle just to move at all - as if there is a dead region in the middle of the axis where it ignores all movement.
- Shorter than your average GW member's penis. Remember when the MGS1 demo came out and we were all well impressed by the amount they actually put out there? Gone are the days. But hell, I will be buying this because they got the message across.

I don't know how this will fare as regards to repetition. Gears of War is similar in nature but becomes very repetitious for me with the same chest-high-walls everywhere (yes that was a ben croshaw reference) and the enemies are not individually a threat but they win due to their number. In KZ2 they are more of a threat and this is good.

I have a ps3 but I am very glad that I have access to both consoles. Will definitely be getting this when it is released.

people forget that bungie maintains active communication with their community.

basically, people will overlook negative aspects of a game if they're having fun with it.  this is something every other company except a handful like valve seem to forget.  most developers keep a large barrier between them and their fans and then wonder why their servers are empty.  this is why eve online has maintained 200k members in 6 years.  the dev team knows exactly what their players like and they make regular contact with them.

until guerilla reaches the same level of personal communication, they'll never have a halo killer

I thought it was shit.

The graphics are nice, aye. But generic war-torn cities with loads of grey and brown? Meh. I could get over the recycled scenery if the controls were good though... but they're not. They're quite the opposite of good, they're bad! I dunno, it feels like there's lag when you hold the analogue stick (which is inferior to the 360's stick) in a direction. I thought turning the turn speed up would help (even though I always turn it way down in FPSes) but it didn't. They fucked up. Resistance 2 is way better. Better graphics, better levels, better guns, better imagination.

edge gave it a "bad" review (a reasonable review) and so sony are claiming they're biased against ps3 titles.

because, y'know the ps3 is choc-full of high quality games.

I don't know why you would put something like Valve on that example because if you go to their forums, like the TF2 or L4D forums for example, you will find nothing but complaints on the games, complaints on how Valve has a really bad communication between them and their customers, complaints on how Valve doesn't live up to their promises, complaints on how Valve takes tremendous timespans to perform the simplest of tasks etc..

This is pretty much a staple for Valve these days, one month to them is one year to us. My assumption is that they have people who check for sufficient feedback who then pass it on to Valve. But yeah when you constantly update a piece of software, it's going to get criticism for the changes no matter how minor they are. It's like a review session after every update with Valve.

But to get back on topic, I read some reviews for Killzone 2 and they're saying that you usually just use one weapon throughout the game since there's no reason to really use anything else. Most game sites are giving it a high rating, but are telling you it's nothing special...but...it looks really good *5 thumbs up*. I'm guessing the multiplayer must be really good, maybe that's what sets it apart from being just a pretty game? Because I'd really like to try this game if I had a PS3.

That Edge review is really good and actually brings up perfectly valid (and RARELY ADDRESSED) criticisms of the genre - the fact it's choked with sci fi shooters that just throw constant BLOW UP DAT TANK or GET ON DAT TURRET situations at you. It's the JOB of a reviewer to relate the good and the bad - if Killzone 2 features a lack of creativity, it should be called out as such. That doesn't stop it from being fun - Edge still gave it a GOOD REVIEW. 7/10 is good. They said it's fun with great multiplayer. They say the AI is great and its action rivals Call of Duty 4. These are big compliments! If a game is polished and fun, you can enjoy it despite a shitty story or terrible writing - but that doesn't stop the writing or story from sucking. And if you're being critical of something, you have to address this. I enjoyed Gears of War 2 a lot, but I'll be the first to admit the story and writing were pretty terrible at times and the ending was god awful and just a complete excuse to FINISH THE FIGHT IN GEARS 3: WINTER 2010 (thats not a real slogan its a joke )
