Let me first say I really hate the idea of making a topic asking for suggestions on what to watch, but I feel I have to because the rest of the internet is fucking dumb.

Basically, I watched Lilja 4-Ever the other day and I realised how much I like these bleak and emotional dramas... there's something about everything going shitty for everyone that I love. I like being a big emo when I watch films, being reduced to tears.
Other films that I like that are similar to this would be: 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and (I guess) Requiem for a Dream.

So, if you can tell me the most depressing film you've watched (DON'T MAKING A FUCKING LIST) and WHY it is depressing, I'd love you forever.

Hmm. The Savages was extremely depressing, mostly because it was so REAL. Actually, The Squid And The Whale is from the same director and is also very very depressing, although I don't think it's as good as The Savages.

Go watch The Savages, it's wonderful.

These kinds of movies are basically the epitome of cinema for me. I love this emo shit, I want to make this emo shit. I've seen the three you've listed and fucking loved them.

I am going to write a list of shit I can remember, I'm sorry.

Babel
Last Life of the Universe
Everything is Illuminated
Come and See
Tsotsi
Atonement
Into the Wild
In the Mood for Love + 2046
The Kite Runner
Paranoid Park
Memories of Murder
Lust, Caution
The Last Emperor
Amadeus
The Wrestler *highly recommend*
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Brokeback Mountain
The Elephant Man
The Fountain
There Will be Blood
The 400 Blows *highly recommend*
Elephant
Au Revoir Les Enfants

Shit that I forget
La Haine
Motorcycle Diaries
This is England
The Return
Eastern Promises
Cashback
Gone Baby Gone
Blame It on Fidel
Once
If... + O' Lucky Man
JCVD
Maria Full of Grace
Bang Bang You're Dead
Doubt
Kikujiro
Heavenly Creatures

Call me stupid, but these are pretty much the films that have moved me. They have mostly made me feel emo, but I don't know if it's categorize them as being depressing.

Dear Zachary is okay, it kinda suffers from some pacing issues, but it's worth the watch.

Gotta watch The Bridge, sounds very interesting.

fuck pacing, dead babbys..................also weeping yokels.  honestly tho i would not really consider traditional criticisms of it valid as the guy even says in the video he is making it for himself/the kid when he grows up.  if it was shot as a commercial documentary i think i'd agree but when it's just some guy doing it for himself it's not really fair to be like HMMMM....PACING COULD BE BETTER

also atonement wasnt that sad.  ohhh noooo she made a childishly naive mistake and peoples' lives were ruined as a result.....  they had a really nice estate tho.  i wish i was landed gentry

If you want something like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Darren Aronofsky films, or 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, I would not recommend this or any other Clint Eastwood films.
