Well my fellow forum members, the time has come. Finally a new Duke Nukem game is releasing this fall, but it is not Duke Nukem Forever. It is a different Duke Nukem game called Duke Nukem: Critical Mass and it is being released for the PSP and Nintendo DS. I believe there was a teaser trailer released a while back for this only showing words and pictures of Duke Nukem, but no gameplay or screen shots. However, in a recent issue of Game Informer the screen shots were revealed and....well see for yourself. I took the liberty to scan it for you guys:

Umm...what is this? I mean it looks decent but it just looks a bit odd. Kind of weird that Duke Nukem is being turned into a 3rd person shooter however it looks pretty good though, if they execute it right. From what I can gather, the PSP one will be a full 3rd person shooter while the DS will be a side scrolling shooter with 3D graphics. It will also be a three game trilogy, but I wish that they would fucking finish Forever already. If I get more information, I will post it.

duke nukem's had a couple of third person games if i remember right. planet of the babes or something was one.

The terrible Zero Hour as well.

The original 2d sidescrollers were the best and Duke3D was one of the better video game parodies. This... looks terrible. Duke Nukem isn't even relevant anymore. He's a symbol of the Xtreme 90s that no one cares about. Manhattan Project was a 3D sidescroller that came out a few years ago and it was decent but unless the PSP version lives up to the standards Syphon Filter set for PSP 3rd person shooters (and Resistance looks like it'll raise the bar higher) I have no doubt that it will fail. Hard.

i thought critical mass was just a compilation of all the old games. i wish they'd just re-release the old ones with updated controls and graphics.

Duke Nukem is just too old now to become anything big ever again. It was cool back then but now it's just... bleh.

This looks pretty awful. The DS especially is NOT meant for shooters.

have any of you seen those old duke nukem forever trailers from like 10 years ago? those look really, really good. i mean even today those still look pretty fun. i'm positive that when duke nukem forever comes out, it will be an extremely good game, not even because it's duke nukem (duke nukem is pretty dumb and after watching a couple creator interviews i'm beginning to think less and less that it's a parody and more that it's something these guys think is absolutely hilarious) but because the ideas from 10 years ago looked great, and i'm sure they've been expanded on.

Big muscled jar head with a cigar and big guns fighting big aliens/monsters invading the earth and also who kidnap babes to ravage their bodies, sounds like a horrible birth child of anime and american culture to me.

A tool is a tool regardless. I mean if you suck, you suck, and not even the most perfect tool could save you. And if your damn good then even with the worst tool ever conceived you could chug out some high quality shit.

I'm kinda interested in this, I mean, I never played any of the old Duke Nukem games (too young), but I'm especially interested on how they handle aiming on the PSP.

did anyone play the duke nukem 3d beta? that was really really cool and i hope when or if duke nukem forever gets released that they do something similiar

Reading the article a bit more closely, i found out that you can play the PSP version entirely in first person and the DS one has a weird ass camera where it can be a regular side scrolling style camera, behind you, or in front of you to see if there are enemies ahead or coming up from behind.

The third person Duke Nukem games were pretty fun. I like "Time To Kill" the best. I just hope the next gen Duke Nukem will be in third person. Duke just isn't as enjoyable in 1st person I think.

That looks pretty nice. Can't knock the classic gameplay, and I like the little things they did in that video that you wouldn't see in an old shooter. IE, the building collapsing, swiping the cards, etc. Definitely getting this.

Wrong.

That's not Duke Nukem. That's Shadow Warrior. It comes equipped with blatant sexism, racism, and semi nude anime girls. A game also created by 3d Realms.
