I am using underground and mainstream hip hop (and, to a lesser extent, r&b) instrumentals for my game's music. It's freaking awesome.

Anyway, while I have a pretty good library already, I am eager to find more instrumentals. Since I'm not using entire songs (this would be redundant and obviously inflates file size) , I cut the "essentials" of a song and loop them. With that in mind, having an instrumental is not imperative. I have also been cutting instrumental breaks from songs with vocals and looping those.

Any suggestions you can provide are appreciated. Anything Persian-sounding is given preference. I am trying to stay away from songs that were big mainstream hits in the past 15 years.

I'm just looking for awesome "beatz". Fast or slow tempo both good.

dunno about for game music but there is this group called Zaman 8 and they did an album recently with this guy named Hafez Modir and its like a combination of afrobeat and hip hop that uses mostly Iranian instrumentation its called like Suryaghati or something

its actually not that good but it definitely fits the bill of what you're looking for. just dont know how to get it into midi lol

Usually you can just google the instrumental you want. I have Notorious BIG instrumentals but that's about it.

Deltron 3030 released an instrumental version of their album so I'd definitely check that out as it's one of the coolest sounding hip-hop albums.

yo can you be more specific? you looking for a 90s sound I think (as most of the underground hiphop cribs from them), so dig up a souls of mischief or hieroglyphics instru. you can also get a fuckton of jdilla.

Fantastic suggestion. I've just downloaded the album and it's just gr8 for what I need.

And nope, I can't be more specific. XD Not looking for 90s stuff in particular. Pretty much anything hip hop or r&b that sounds... cool. The world is my oyster.

I found a torrent for 768 megs worth of hip hop instrumentals so I should actually be set. Would still love to hear recommendations, like your favourite hip hop beats, though.

I like Pharoahe Monch's stuff alot, check out the song "agent orange"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0VsHyqxhio - "Rising Down" The Roots with Mos Def, I really like this song's beat but I think its the vocal effect stuff that really did it with me dunno if you can use that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNITJsOrHr0 - You could probably use Jedi Mind Tricks, I like the classical mixing shit they do its pretty cool.

I can't get enough Elzhi beats, they're really really simple but so goddamn cool sounding.

you're going to have to be more specific I'm afraid because I could spend a good hour listing beats. there has to be a line to what you want. probably less The Chronic more Jay-Dee stuff. if you were going to combine the Neptunes, Kanye, and Scott Storch, you'd get a really weird soundtrack!

try the miles davis album "Doo-Bop"
Sort of jazz improvisations with hiphop beats by Easy Mo Bee. Some of the tracks like Mystery sound pretty VG'ish enough as it is.
