Anyone like Deep Space Nine???

I'm a trek geek, but I never really gave DS9 the time of day. I've only seen a few scattered episodes through the series, most of them back when I was a kid and they were airing for the first time on TV. To me, the show wasn't worth watching simply because they never really explored anything - being stuck on the station for most of the series seemed boring. My favourite parts of other Treks was when the crew would encounter an anomaly or a hostile race.

After Battlestar Galactica ended, I stumbled on a thread on Something Awful about DS9. I hadn't realized that Ron Moore had been heavily involved in it. I guess his influence can be felt mostly in the later seasons, were the show becomes serialized and much darker. This got me interested. People seem to like Trek for its sense of hope, but this is what turns me off them. It's why I liked BSG - plans didn't always work out, the good guys did bad things, and you never really knew where the human race would end up.

So now I'm watching it. I'm still slogging through the early parts of season 1, which by all accounts is pretty boring, but this is about the same for every Trek as the shows don't usually find their stride until the 3rd or 4th season. Does anyone else like DS9, and is it worth continuing?

Like you I was never really a fan of DS9 and had only ever watched a few episodes every so often, It always seemed to be about the prophets and the wormhole they lived in which I just hated. I hear its a great show once you get into it and it really picks up in season 4. I plan on watching the show eventually if I can find a good deal online otherwise ill wait till something pops up but until then ill continue watching Voyager, TNG and occasionally Enterprise.

For you rowain, it's worth sticking with. I watched the important/interesting sounding episodes of seasons 1-2 at first, and skipped a bunch. I watched pretty much all of them from season 3 on cos that's when it gets 'good' (it's still star trek after all). Just as soon as you hear the words Jem H'adar the war starts brewing and that's when things get more interesting and exciting.

Season 1 and 2 only have a handful of good episodes between them, where the later seasons the good episodes outweigh the bad ones.

It's pretty easy to tell the bad ones apart, also. Like if there's a ferengi pun in the episode title or quark is mentioned anywhere in the episode description, you want to skip it. Quark interacting with the main cast is fine and sometimes even funny, but Quark and a bunch of other ferengi talking about gold and misogyny stinks.
