guess they're not even trying lol
It's a dota clone with a additions to it. We weren't kidding. But no. The game mode for this is 'Normal' and there are check boxes for 'Force Random', 'Easy Mode', and 'All Heroes' (since the individual game modes will limit your heroes to your side if you don't check it)! There is also a force random setting for Single Draft and Random Draft too!
Here's the thing though, it's so much better, and it has potential to be so much more. In-client voice communications, alternate maps/ layouts, cleaner and more responsive ui (Dota will seem choppy and slow in comparison), smoother/ more diverse programming (since it's made from scratch instead of using workarounds for the WC3 client), instead of the lag/drop cycle lag is VERY RARE and if a person lags only they feel it and if they disconnect they have up to five minutes of offline time until they are officially dropped from the game (ie you can get back in the game if you disconnect), the score system discourages leavers/ having to play with leavers (since willful disconnects are logged too) and there is even a game setting that can block "leavers" from joining the game, there is an in-client banning and ping system, shitty gaming conditions bringing on a vote system for either a remake (where the game starts over without the scores being recorded) or a concession (where scores will stop being kept from that point on and the players will be able to leave), and etc!
I would also like to point out that latency means something different here. The programming is such that the HoN client will compensate in ways that WC3 can't. Long story short 150ms in Dota will feel like 10ms in HoN and you will rarely feel the effects of delay or lag at all (I felt it once out of weeks of playing). Oh, and getting a game going is so much easier being that it's a dedicated client with thousands of users (6,500-11,000 users at any given moment so far). That's roughly 80-200 games to chose from at any given moment with filters to weed out specific maps/ settings that narrows the list down for you... one of the filters being ping (because it pings every single available game and it even tells you which country the game is hosted in)! Another cool thing about it is that you have an option between hosting the game yourself or hosting it through a dedicated server (the unofficial and official server game settings) so hostlag should never be an issue any more!
So uh... yeah, HoN>Dota.
