Ragnar... I'd say (from my experience) that the best recent HM game is the one they made for the GBA (Friends of Mineral Town, I believe). It was as addicting as sex and played pretty well too. I've heard good things about the Rune Factory variants of Harvest Moon for the DS (they incorporate actual monsters like a traditional RPG) but get those at your own discretion.

Nah, Rune Factory is p. boring.  The idea is good but it doesn't come out very good!  But besides that, I don't really know what Ragnar means about there being so many Harvest Moons that he doesn't know which ones are real......they are almost all basically regular Harvest Moons, it's just a matter of figuring out which ones are good (hint: get Harvest Moon 64 or Back to Nature for the PSX and you never have to worry about the ones coming out now).  The only game I can think of that's a Harvest Moon game that's not really it itself is Puzzle de Harvest Moon, and it has Puzzle right in the title so you wouldn't mistake it for anything else.  So yeah...it's hard to keep up with new releases of Harvest Moon games but they aren't really expansions or sequels for the most part unless the title blatantly tells you (in which case I don't think any of the HM games REQUIRE the previous one), and Puzzle de Harvest Moon is the only one I know of that doesn't follow that same pattern.

Innocent Life looked interesting (FUTURISTIC HARVEST MOON) until I actually looked at it and realized it was still mostly fantasy shit just FUTURE fantasy shit.  I was kind of hoping for an actual sci-fi Harvest Moon, even though it would still probably suck ass.

What I meant is even though it was cheesy as hell it worked back in the day when they called it "Super _______" or "_________ 64" (e.g. Super Castlevania, Pilotwings 64) with Harvest Moon I have no clue if it's a true sequel or some special future edition like you were talking about that might be really bad or maybe you don't even farm at all. If I was to buy a new Harvest Moon game, I probably wouldn't want to mess around with stuff like that, I'd just want the version that's like the SNES one but with more stuff to do probably, and better graphics

and it said the RPG version of Harvest Moon isn't even really Harvest Moon. Like Final Fantasy Legend had the "Final Fantasy" part tacked on to make it sell more

yeah I realized I have Harvest Moon 64 somewhere, is there anything worth getting past that? (it'd have to be for PS2 or GBA)

If you have a PS2 then you could still get Back to Nature for the PSX.  It's very similar to Harvest Moon 64.  Unless you have a PS3, in which case I have no idea about that.  But the naming conventions have always been pretty dumb for all games.  You said Super Castlevania, but what about all the recent Castlevanias?  Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia?  Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin?  It's really dumb to argue this about Harvest Moon when it applies to almost every big video game series ever.  What would you guess about Super Mario Sunshine by the title?

The basic summary is that if it has Harvest Moon in the title and isn't Puzzle de Harvest Moon, it's a regular Harvest Moon game.  They just differ in how many dumb things have been added (and so if you go for the older titles, you'll get what you want as far as it being like the SNES one).  You probably wouldn't even recognize Rune Factory or those other ones AS harvest moon games so that doesn't really add to the confusion.  If you want to know what the focus of the gameplay is, check Wikipedia I guess, but they all (as far as I know) keep the regular Harvest Moon formula but with extra shit that usually is no good.

edit: Man this looks like I'm really fired up over Harvest Moon but really I just thought it was a dumb argument when it came to video game titles

Harvest moon 64 was the best harvest moon by the way. The ones that came out on GC and PS2 were a lot more boring

I never played either but I saw a friend play a little of the GC one and it looked godawful.  The PSX one is very similar to 64 tho, and I like it a little better.

I tried Rune Factory and I got bored much quicker than any other Harvest Moon game. It just seemed so dull. I usually play Harvest Moon games for at least a year in game time and get bored but I don't think I lasted a week in Rune Factory. Perhaps I've just grown tired of Harvest Moon games since that was the last one I played. Anyway, I'd have to say my favourite Harvest Moon game is Magical Melody. However, I think that's only available on the Gamecube. What I liked most about that game is that they offer you more choices. You get to choose where your farm is located. You get to choose whether to be a boy or a girl and each have like ten or eleven possible mates. Besides farming, you always have to free the goddess by collecting tones or whatever they're called. They're basically like achievements. There's even a multiplayer mode. The biggest let-down is the festivals as they're quite uneventful but other than that, it's a solid game.

Nah, I think it's just that Rune Factory is really, really boring.  Also the game starts out like this:

"OH MY GOODNESS WHO ARE YOU ARE YOU OKAY???"
"I...don't remember who I am.....I'm...hungry"
"COME IN LET ME GET YOU SOME FOOD MY NAME IS (I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER THIS GAME WAS TOO BORING)"
"I'm thirsty too"
"WOULD YOU LIKE TO RUN MY FARM STRANGER???? YOU CAN HAVE IT HERE'S SOME TOOLS BTW THERE'S MONSTERS TOO"
"Okay that is a good idea I will run this farm despite us just now meeting"

At least in Harvest Moon you inherited the farm from grandpa, some 15 year old girl living by herself didn't give you this farm she has for some reason.

But yeah I thought for a second that maybe I didn't like Harvest Moon anymore either but then I went back and played Back to Nature again and realized nope it's just that Rune Factory is awful!

I remember getting HM64 for Christmas one year, I was so psyched. For like TWO YEARS prior I had rented the SNES Harvest Moon from a nearby movie store, I was obsessed with it but my file would obviously get erased whenever someone else rented it. When I got HM64 to OWN it was like a dream come true....

Later I would play the PS2 harvest moon... but it stunk. The end.

however my favorite harvest moon game has always been harvest moon 64. :D

Did anybody know that GBC Pokemon trick where you push B+direction at the splash screens and change up the whole palette?  I figured that out myself, was pretty proud of myself.  Or did this work with all games?
This works for all gb games (not GBC games or gb-compatible games such as pokemon gold/silver that have color built in)

It looks like a lot of those games were removed from the list.  Wiki is user-driven, and relies on its users to maintain the integrity of its information for the most part.  We correct ourselves pretty well for the most part.  Also, every entry is supposed to be backed by a source and ones that aren't are noted at the top of the page usually.  It's not that difficult to use Wikipedia correctly.

I didn't think Harvest Moon DS was that bad, it just wasn't much above the GBC Harvest Moon so it was sort of a waste of money.  I still liked it better than Rune Factory because there was less dumb shit involved.
