Brütal Legend is a heavy metal-themed game coming out later this year which 'stars' Jack Black.

[/center]

I thought that the idea for the theme was novel, where you 'rock stuff to death', I guess. It will be neat to see how they incorporate it into all the regular aspects of an action-adventure game. Aside from this though, what really struck me was the way that the trailer sort of uses the cutscenes in a way to make it seem like it could be an animated movie and as well as a video game. Because I just finished a university course on digital and trans-media texts, I thought it was really interesting how the game sort of 'stars' Jack Black, and that is a part of its marketing and its appeal. Despite whatever you think of Jack Black, he has come to associate himself with this kind of 'rock will save the world' attitude.
I might be wrong (bring up any instances if you can think of them) but is this the first time where a videogame, as a unique text (ie not as a spinoff or adaptation of a film or whatever) has had a prominent and popular film actor in a starring role, and the game marketed as such? Do you think that we will see more of this (ie Morgan Freeman in System Shock 3?) in the years to come as the distinctive industries of film and video games continue to merge? Also feel free to post your opinions or thoughts on this game in particular.

There's a game that stars VIN DIESEL at the moment, I can't quite think of the name. It looks very shit though.

Tim Schafer hasn't failed me yet!

Anyways, I've been looking forward to this for a while now, though there was a bit of a scare when Activision(i think?) dropped the title, but fortunetly, EA picked it up.  My only problem is I don't own any current gen systems yet, I should probably get to work on that before the game comes out on Rocktober 13th...

There are two of them actually. One where he's some driver and then another Riddick game (the first of which was actually pretty good).

50 cent came out with another one too.

Tim Schafer has a perfect record in my book.

If this is bad, it'd be the first.

Did this remind anyone else of Jak and Dexter?

Also looks kinda cool.
If an image says a thousand words, and a video shows 24 images each second, then why couldn't they condense everything I needed to learn at school into one hour long video :V

Ahahaha, the museum.

I'm gonna get this for PS3, I think. It had better have references to Pick Of Destiny.

Yeah I'm pretty much looking forward to this game, and have been since it was first announced. It just looks cool, sounds like it has a style to it that is different from everything else.

I think I can recall from an interview somewhere that you can jump a river of blood in your hotrod "The Deuce" or something.

nah man there were a handful of fmv games in the early 90s that did this, the actors weren't as prominent as jack black is now i guess (then again maybe they were it was too far back for me to have known at the time), but since this was an early time for actors in video games they made a big deal about it (night trap (dana plato), the horde (kirk cameron), also elvira had some games but i guess that's sort of a spinoff of her PERSONA or whatever)

as far as this game goes, it looks like it's just trying to jump in on the whole guitar hero vibe and the theme of HEAVY METAL isn't really something that i think can keep interest for very long on its own

I don't really like that Jack Black is in it but hopefully it'll give it some star appeal so people will actually buy it, unlike Psychonauts.

I don't have XO or PS3 so I'll probably never play this and the heavy metal theme doesn't sound all that interesting, but just the fact that another Tim Schafer game gets published makes me feel warm inside. There's clearly still good in this world.

Actually, Double Fine was making this game before GH, but no one wanted to pick it up, until GH made Heavy Metal popular or something.

Tim Schafer had been pitching this game since the early 90s or something, but nobody wanted to touch it until Guitar Hero came out and revived popular interest in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

At least, that's the story Tim Schafer tells.

if they were going to do a game based around a heavy metal guy it would make alot more sense to have lemmy as the main role then jack black.
